  1. Our bench is pretty awesome. It's a little light on power but I'd rather have good hitters than homer-or-nothing hitters like Borchard. We even have Ozuna for some speed.
  2. Except Maddux had pinpoint control and Thornton usually has no clue where the ball is going. Great point, Hawk and DJ.
  3. Is Thornton going to pitch another inning? This dude needs to throw more than one inning.
  4. By the way, Scott Williamson appears to be hurt in the Cubs game so I'm glad we didn't trade for him now. I guess he popped his elbow or something. Cubs pitchers are cursed.
  5. The problem with Thornton is that it doesn't really matter how good or bad he looks in one inning. He can pitch lights-out one inning and get completely shellacked in the next. He has no consistency.
  6. Is Nomo still pitching? If so, probably not.
  7. I think the Sox just told Nomo that he would have a chance so he would be okay with helping Charlotte win something.
  8. That sounds about right. I think he can touch 85.
  9. Agreed. Who was on base when Thome hit the jack and how did he get on base?
  10. Nomo needs to hang em up. He's a gas can at this point.
  11. Are we desperately trying to trade this guy for a bag of balls or what? Why does Nomo keep getting starts over our actual starters?
  12. Vizcaino had 5 losses last season so it's fairly apparent that Thornton could have the same impact on our record, especially since he will be in the same role as Vizcaino. Thornton is much worse than Vizcaino so he will probably hurt us even more than 5 losses.
  13. I hope so. Tracey hasn't been very good this spring. I would trade a bunch of guys like Tracey for a reliable reliever right now. I guess I'm all aboard the quickman boat.
  14. Well, Vizcaino was our mop-up guy last season and he saw a few important innings. I fear Thornton.
  15. Man, if only there was a way for us to get our hands on Salomon Torres.
  16. Yeah, if Thornton had Farnsworth's control he might actually be useful.
  17. No offense to KW but a guy like Thornton shouldn't really be in a contending team's opening day bullpen.
  18. I doubt it. The Diamondbacks have really improved their bullpen (on paper, of course) from last season when they had the worst bullpen (5.40 ERA) in the entire MLB. Juan Cruz Terry Mulholland Jason Grimsley Luis Vizcaino Brandon Medders Jose Valverde That's not bad compared to last season. Halsey is a decent young pitcher but there's no way he has the same value as Anderson. Like I said, either Beane was high on something or that article was BS.
  19. He's a virtual clone of Hee-Seop Choi. I guess teams don't value low AVG, decent OBP and power first basemen off the bench. Both Choi and Pena have massive holes in their swings though.
