  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) Fry him. He needs to be held responsible for what he said, unlike Mayor Nagin. I want to know who gave him the info, and why he felt that he should be spreading it as fact, when indeed he didn't know that for sure. He didn't spread it. It was spread to him.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) I do blame the media. It is their job to make sure what they are reporting is the truth. It takes two minutes to call someone in a position of authority and say "can you confirm..." Problem averted. It doesn't even sound like they tried to contact an official with the company or government to me, they just overheard this stuff and ran to the presses with it. Plus this hasn't been a one time occurance, when in fact it has practically become an epidemic of sorts with the media... Truth be damned, get the story out. How many times in the last couple of years have we seen horribly wrong information being passed off as fact, only to be quietly retracted in the coming days and weeks? This is just horribly irresponsible. Fox just showed the footage from last night. Geraldo was interviewing someone and some family members ran up and said all we found alive. Then the jubilation began and bells started ringing. I can't blame Geraldo for this.

  5. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) But I'm not running for anything. He said, "Democrat", not "Marxist."

  7. http://nwitimes.com/articles/2005/12/30/ne...0e7000e3f15.txt If the Bears are doing this to stop the brokers then they have no idea how brokers work. The broker doesn't make the phone call, he has people like you and me doing the calling and he has people all over the US. :headshake
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) It was used as Dodger Stadium in Rookie of the Year. That stupid assed movie!
  9. QUOTE(Damen @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) I think we'll see weekday totals between 30-35K and sellouts during the good matchups during the summer months. You're still predicting typical weekday games at 22,000 which I'd be shocked to see. So I think its realistic to see the attendance a bit higher. I don't think 2.8 is far-fetched. Welcome to Soxtalk!
  10. QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 06:15 PM) Supposedly the color blue makes it easier for both the batters and fielders to pick up the ball. So they said at the time. I also heard JR modeled it after Yankee stadium.
  11. So, will they outdraw the Cubs this year or next year? And how long will it take the first Cub fan to say, "Well, your capacity is more and it's about time..."
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) One thing to keep in mind is that almost all of the small businesses we're talking about had no idea that they were getting loans out of the 9/11 dollars, they were only applying for loans from the Small Business Administration, and were routed to the 9/11 dollars by people in the SBA. Many of them first learned that their loans came from those funds when media outlets called them for comment. It's also worth noting that when these reports first surfaced several months ago...Senator Olympia Snow (R, Maine), chairperson of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, pledged to hold hearings to investigate the matter. That was back in September. As far as I know those hearings haven't even begun. It's also worth noting that anyone, R or D, can push her to get those hearing started. I don't think this is a partisan problem and it shouldn't be made into one.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) The sad thing is that bridge doesn't even fall under that category. Think more like $1000 hammers and 3 people doing jobs that would be done by one person in the private sector. That stupid bridge is just a waste, period. Oh, I know. I meant add to that 10% the bridge, etc.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) Unfortunately nothing. Which is why it is estimated that as high as 10% of tax dollars are wasted through ineffeciencies just like this one. And what percentage is wasted on things like the Alaska bridge?
  15. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) For anybody in the UIUC area, I'm even thinking of going forward hardcore with my standup. You should. I get a good laugh from your "Coulumnist Stylings" all the time.
  16. I heard about this a long time ago. What's new about government inefficiency?
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) How could they be worn out? Nobody sat in them for years. A+
  18. Who comes up with this s***? I hate them!
  19. I heard the call on the news yesterday. f***ing horrible! She was screaming, "I want my mommy!" I was balling. Burn this bastard!
  20. QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) they should just spray paint them all... They're replacing them because they're worn out. Even if they kept the color the same they'd be replacing them.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) The payroll number is scary, but doesn't necesarily mean that we are trading someone. Bear with me here folks. Coming into this off season, the goal stated for season tickets was to move the base from 11,000 to 15,000 people. Before January first even rolled around, we are at 20,000 people now, which means we are sitting on about an attendance of 1.6 million people before a single regular season single game ticket has been sold. Last year we sold about 1.3 million of those on our way to the World Series. This year we have a World Series title to sell tickets with. If we even sell another million tickets or so from here on out, we are looking at another 20% increase in attendace over 2005, theoretically putting that much more cash into the budget. I said it in August, and I will say it again, $100 million is very, very possible for this team to maintain in its current form. "We" ??
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) I know that much I am talking about something that takes a little more skill than a primordial scream. There is a level of skill and coordination that it takes to not only make noise, but to make the facial expressions to go with it. I hear ya. They're amazing, huh?
