  1. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:23 AM) Looks like I'll be on the market for a new name soon. Any ideas are welcome. I think I would like to keep the ">" though. Why not take the next step down? Garland>Prior
  2. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:00 AM) ^Very nice sig. Thanks.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:39 AM) Pure f***ing comedy. Someone got paid for this. Remember Theo is in the driver seat. I wonder if Sawx fans think he can turn water into wine Massarotti, Marriotti...they scream intelligence to me?
  4. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:52 AM) it was quite a challenge getting through the registration process. I thought after slaying the dragon it would get easier, but jesus it just got harder and harder!! oh, nevermind, all I had to do was enter my e-mail address and a user name and a password. very difficult. i understand that you're not going to be very receptive to the idea of not being to get as much back for buerhle as you'd like, as that's all you have to look forward to this year. but don't worry, there's always next year, and you guys definitely have a young, solid nucleus to build around. oh... anyways, simmons says there's a 5 year grace period, so try and wait out the next 3. So now you're going to talk s***? What you do not understand, is that if the Mets don't pay, then they don't get Buehrle. It's as simple as that. And let me remind you it's been 21 years since your last World Series title. Why don't you go to a Red Sox message board and thank them for Bill Buckner?
  5. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) I was just providing a well-reasoned, well-informed viewpoint from somebody who follows the Mets very intently. If you all want to try and turn this into me somehow trying to sell you on our C level prospects or whatever other ulterior motives I have, so be it. Irritable lot over here... I wonder why? Partly because our team sucks right now. Partly because you're trying to educate us on what we will/might get. And partly because we already know everything you have said. And unless you really are Omar Minaya, which I'm sure you're not, then this was all a big waste because you, nor I, nor anyone else on this message board or the message board you hail from, knows exactly who would be involved. And if you truly are giving us a well-reasoned, well-informed view point, why don't you inform us of who has been mentioned in trade rumors, instead of coming here and calling every proposal ridiculous.
  6. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) The following people are waving back: Maine - 2.90 ERA El Duque - 2.77 ERA Oliver Perez - 3.16 ERA Kazmir - 4.13 Having Kazmir would be nice, but that's in the past, and helped get rid of Phillips and bring in the best GM in the game. Me. Billy Beane and John Shuerhoz wave Hi, this time.
  7. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:28 AM) in philosophy, that is what we call a false dilemma. "either the mets trade for buerhle or they don't go to the World Series" now, I don't know if you watched the play-offs at all, having failed to make it, but the Mets problem wasn't pitching, it was their offense. and considering the way jeff weaver, jeff suppan and anthony reyes pitched in the play-offs, it seems to me that having quality pitching isn't nearly as important as having hot pitching. On the other end of the spectrum, you've got a 41 year old pitcher in the twilight of his career, a once dominant pitcher coming off of shoulder surgery, a lefty who couldn't make it with the Pirates, and 52 year old Cuban. Not to mention converted reliever Jorge Sosa. Maine is good though.
  8. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) who said there was anything more to it? this is a thread talking about the mets interest in buehrle. I am just representing what is likely to be the Mets' interest in Buehrle. I thought it'd be useful in light of the ridiculous trade proposals in this thread. I am well aware of what the thread is about. I am also well aware of the ridiculous proposals, which is simply speculations/hopes of fans on a message board. You really didn't say much that we didn't already know. Don't take 1 persons proposal to represent everyone's opinions.
  9. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) Buerhle is probably the best pitcher that will be available for a trade this year. However, his talent and ability is off-set heavily by the fact that he is going to be a free agent this year. Therefore, when evaluating his trade value, you cannot go on his talent/ability alone in assessing what a fair return on him would be. I have no idea what Mark will command - there have been a multitude of ridiculous trades throughout the history of baseball. All I am saying is that the Mets will not be one of those teams getting bent over for Buerhle. Thinking you're going to get Fernando Martinez, Deolis Guerra, or a package of several the Mets' top prospects is simply getting your hopes up. The Mets are unlikely to give you Milledge, let alone anything above that. Ok, then the Mets don't get Buehrle. What more is there to it?
  10. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:02 AM) White Sox fans Buerhle is a good pitcher. He has roughly the same career numbers as Willis does, and has had a good year. Last year was a little troubling, and the amount of HRs he gives up is a bit disconcerting. That being said, he is definitely a quality pitcher who would look good on the Mets, be it this year after a trade, or next year as a free agent. However, looking through this thread, I have seen a ton of ridiculous trade proposals, and though several posters have tried to reconcile the demands of many with reality, it still seems that some of you don't fully understand how trading "rentals" works and what the Mets are willing to give up. Fernado Martinez - This kid is completely untouchable. There is a better chance of a transvestite rodeo clown being elected president than Martinez being included in a trade for Buerhle. Ditto goes for Guerra. As for Pelfrey/Humber/Milledge/Gomez - Omar would probably only give up one of them for Buerhle. Look at his reluctance in trading prospects for Zito - he has no desire to do so. Basically, there will be no "package" for Buerhle comprised of two or three of them. Very likely, Omar wouldn't give up one of them, let alone several of them. Many of you have posted saying that if Omar is unwilling to give up Milledge or Milledge+, then they don't get Buerhle. Well, that will be the case. The Mets have gotten superb pitching this year - and could very possibly get a revitalized Pedro back. Anyways, that's pretty much the Mets side of the story. If you want to doubt me, so be it, but I think you'll find that reality will closely mirror what I'm saying. Basically, you've reiterated what most of us know. If there is no package, there is no Buehrle. That's clear. Buehrle is the best player available in the trade market, and you'll have to pay up to get him. We've moved on from that as of now. It looks like the Brewers, Braves, and Red Sox are the top teams in contention for MB at the moment. But welcome to the boards.
  11. Now I know hindsight is 20-20, but he is a look at Laumann's history as Director of Scouting. 2001: Notable: Chris Young, 16th round Rd. 1, #16 - Kris Honel Picks below: Aaron Heilman (18), Mike Fontenot (19), Jeremy Sowers (20), Bobby Crosby (25), Jeremy Bonderman (26), Noah Lowery (30) Rd. 2, #71 - Ryan Wing Picks below: Dan Haren (72), Ryan Theriot (78), Rd. 4, #125 - Aaron Rifkin Picks below: Ryan Howard (140) 2002: Notable: Daniel Haigwood, 16th round and Boone Logan, 20th round Rd. 1, #18 - Royce Ring Picks below: James Loney (19), Jeff Francoeur (23), Joe Blanton (24), Matt Cain (25) Rd. 2, #59 - Jeremy Reed Picks below: Jonathan Broxton (60), Jesse Crain (61), Brian McCann (64) Rd. 17, #510 - Brandon McCarthy Picks below: Russell Martin (511) 2003: Rd. 1, #15 - Brian Anderson Picks below: Conor Jackson (19), Chad Cordero (20), David Aardsma (22), Chad Billinglsey (24), Carlos Quentin (29), Matt Murton (32), Jarrod Saltalamacchia (36) Rd. 2, #52 - Ryan Sweeney Picks below: Jerry Owens (57), Jason Hirsch (59), Andre Ethier (62), Rd. , #112 - Robert Valido Picks below: Jonathan Papelbon (114) Rd. 7, #202 - James Casey Picks below: Reggie Willits (210) Rd. 14, #412 - Ricardo Nanita Picks below: Ian Kennedy (425) The Dodgers got us 3 times in that 2002 draft, and I didn't even look past round 20. Loney, Broxton, and Martin were picked immediately after our guys. Not to mention Bliingsley in the 1st round of 2003.
  12. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) Thanks. BTW I sure hope Kenny isn't stupid enough to trade Mark for a couple of B prospects. In Gammons' blog on ESPN.com he wrote that Boston isn't willing to part with Lester, Buchholz, or Bowden. If that is the case, then why are we still talking about this trade? Ihat comment, and the fact that we're still talking about this trade scenario, scares me about the package that we'll be getting in return for Mark. IMO if Buchholz AND Bowden aren't included then the deal should be off. Are you saying you condone Kenny trading Mark Buehrle for a couple B prospects!??!
  13. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) I totally agree with you about the trade. How many times do I have to say this? I AM NOT advocating trading Mark for a couple of B prospects. If Kenny trades Mark to Boston, I want nothing short of Ellsbury, Buchholz, and Bowden/Bard. They can throw in Crisp if they want, I'm sure if they give us those 3 Kenny will have no problem taking Crisp or Pena. If we deal with the Braves, I want nothing short of Salty, Andrus/Escobar, and Harrison. (one of their best pitching prospects)If we deal with the Mets, I want nothing short of Pelfrey, Gomez/Milledge/Martinez, and Humber. It's pretty simple. If you want Mark Buehrle, You're going to have to give up 3 of your best prospects, period. I just don't think that a trade like the ones I want will ever happen, though. In fact, My belief(though through pure speculation on my part) is that after last year's offseason, GMs around baseball value their A prospects more than any player on their major league team except their young stars(i.e. players like Verlander, Sizemore, and Miguel Cabrera) We get it.
  14. Jon Garland 5th in the MLB since the start of 2005, 40-22. Just thought I'd throw that in here.
  15. Still no mention of Buehrle on the NESN post game show. It's a pretty bad show. Not much about the actual game.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) Yeah, he did have quite the nice slide. It's just amazing how poorly the Sox are at sliding. Unless it's sliding feet first into 1st base. We rock at that!
  17. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) OK. For the record, I'm watching the Red Sox post game on NESN now. No mention at all of Buerhle. I'm watching it too. I did notice that David Ortiz is faster than anyone on the White Sox.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:04 PM) He's terrible....batting .217. Sweet. I've got money on KW getting him.
  19. How about Kottaras? God knows we have no catchers.
  20. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) He also said Massett's fastball was a tic below Jenks'... This year, it is.
  21. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) Ellsbury + Bowden and I will get wood What the hell are you going to do with a baseball bat?
  22. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) What if you realized your girlfriend was both your sister and a Cubs fan that is a practicing pyromaniac. Oh, and she is not even a she. What if you realized your sister was your girlfriend and a Cubs fan, then was taken from you by Richard Simmons...and he is a Cubs fan too! Then, you beat his ass, get arrested by being tazered while covered in gasoline, go to jail, and get manhandled by more Cubs fans.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:58 PM) Lets just say for the sake of argument that the Red Sox were given a 72 hour window to sign Buehrle to an extension. The Sox best be getting Bucholtz and a couple more major pieces back if this is the case. I don't buy it for a second but if it is true then I expect a King's Ransom of top flight talent to be on its way to Chicago right about now. With Ellsbury playing for Pawtucket, it doesn't look too promising.
  24. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) From WSI Board WEEI and NESN both reporting Buehrle has agreed to an extension with Boston....no offical word yet OMFGz lyke WTF?
  25. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) We were shut out by a rookie? Sean Marshall is a rookie. EDIT: Never mind, he pitched last year too.
