  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) And that was before America got their s*** handed to them. A game that is supposedly America's past time, and here we are losing in the first round. What's that say about us? I imagine there will be a much better turn out next time around. Everyone said the same thing when the US finished 6th in the World Championships for basketball in 2002. The next time out, there were even fewer NBA stars.
  2. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) It wasn't about the star power, though. You tell the people who packed the stadiums and the millions who watched all over the world as their countries got to play for the first time in a massive international display and tell them it was "bad" for baseball. I don't think you understand my stance. The premise is great, but knowing that so many players would decline and not play is what killed the whole thing. In soccer, players would kill to play for their national team. In the NBA and MLB, players are offered a spot and decline citing injuries, prior engagements, etc. The WBC will never be a great tournament because for the most part, Americans would rather represent the Boston Red Sox or LA Angels than their own country. It was never set for success. In Japan and the other secondary baseball countries, yes, it was huge, because their players actually showed up and wanted to represent their country and win. The fans liked it because, like you said, it was the 1st time they could see their own country in international play in baseball. But I know that if my country is in a tournament and all the top players decline, I wouldn't be nearly as excited. Would I still root? Of course. Would I care as much? Hell no.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) I think the World Baseball Classic is fantastic and I'd think so if every pitcher who was involved in it had their arms fall off. Oh, and you can't really blame the WBC for Garcia or Vazquez. First of all, Vazquez' velocity was fine last year. Second: that excuse for Garcia is too convenient. He's thrown a lot of innings, and that was his problem. Maybe it added to it a little, but I doubt it added much significantly. The WBC was great for baseball all over the world. Oh, I didn't really like the pitch count rules, but it was great all the same. Just kind of wish America had won. Wrong. Every country, especially the US, had players sissy out and worry about injuries and not play. It was a bad idea and it was not good for baseball.
  4. What kind of BS is this? The top 3 topics are: I Had Fun at Wrigley Field Santo Sammy Sosa And 2 out of the next 3 are: Jeff Samardzija to the bullpen Michael Barrett Traded
  5. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 11:52 PM) Not completely sure... good point, since the team has looked bad for a while now. I feel teh same way as well. Anyone know why Tom Arnold isn't on the show anymore? Because "Soul Plane" came out.
  6. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Hopefully they teach him to take the bat off of his shoulder and swing in Triple A. So when he doesn't swing, he should. But when he swings, he's impatient because he doesn't draw walks.
  7. Justice is served. England loses 13-12 on PK's to the Netherlands and Serbia advances with the 2-0 win against Belgium. Should be a phenomenal final. And I'd love nothing more than for England to miss out on the Olympics by losing to Portugal.
  8. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) I just picked so Chicago is on the clock...Hopefully I dont have to see a much uglier version of Tyson Chandler Do you see who was picking? I hate Noah!
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 08:58 AM) I certainly hope so. He showed what he's capable of over the final 10 games. We've already signed Scott Parker from Newcastle while Reo - Coker is on the outs to Aston Villa. The arbitration panel is deciding today whether to open up the Tevez punishment as well. Sheffield United want re-instatement to the Premier League and for West Ham to be relegated. I'd say there's under a 10% chance of that happening though, and the Premier League agree. And what's been your take on the whole England vs. Serbia fiasco at the U21 Champs Soxfan1? Certainly an interesting situation (not a good one though). It's all BS. BBC is making such a big deal out of this that it's sickening. England's 2nd goal came on a play where one of Serbia's defenders was on the ground and the English side took advantage and scored, instead of kicking the ball out. From the commentary I saw, Rajkovic had been laying on the ground at least 2 minutes. Then, there was a skirmish between the teams following the goal. Then the Serbian fans started chanting racist remarks. First off, shame on the referee and shame on England. For the country that preaches fair play, they sure know when to take advantage of a team when a man is down. That is complete BS. Derbyshire's celebration after the goal was just classless as well and his goal should have been pulled back and he should have been carded. This is unacceptable in international play. 2nd, if Serbia would have scored the same way, with an English player down, BBC, England, Queen Elizabeth, and the rest of the fans in the stadium would have thrown a huge fit, especially considering the fact(s) that A.) Serbia had it's entire 2nd team in, B.) The celebration deserved a swift kick in the face, and C.) it would have possibly cost England a shot at the Semi-Finals. This whole incident pisses me off so much. Anything England could do to make Serbia the bad guys is what's happening. No mention of the "fair play" that England loves. No mention of the celebration. Nope, just Serbia's racist fans. GMAB.
  10. Stupid, Hilarious Videos Thread???
  11. Give them Vazquez, Dye, and MacDougal. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) Even though I think Jose's trade value is nada, do you think that a Contreras and Dye for Betemit, Billingsley and Kershaw trade is reasonable from both teams standpoints? Earlier we were talking about Betemit and Billingsley for Dye alone, we would essentially be trading Contreras for Kershaw straight up. Do you think the Dodgers would consider that, or do I need to lay off the bong?(figuratively speaking) Yeah, I'm guessing take a few less hits of that bong.
  12. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 02:19 AM) Well, let him walk. I don't believe in giving pitchers not of elite caliber huge deals. Also, I should add that I have a feeling that if Buehrle isn't traded, come free agency, Buehrle will turn down the White Sox offer to him and sign a similar contract with the Cardinals, and he will be forever hated afterwards. Mark Buehrle is about the most consistant pitcher out there, and at times, can be dominant. With the market as high as it is right now, and with the team struggling, letting Mark Buehrle go will lose you a lot of fans and a lot of games. And knightni only backs up my sentiments. See above post. Put Mark Buehrle in the NL, or on the Yankees/Angels/Red Sox and he wins 20+ games every year.
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:08 AM) 5 years, $75M. Done deal. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) Bingo. He'll I'd go 80. Getting rid of Dye and Count is 17 million dollars right there. I wouldn't be mad at all at 5/85.
  14. Bye bye to Dye and Contreras. I'll take 5 years of those Mark Buehrle's please.
  15. Happy birthday SnB!
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:38 AM) HA HA! Whatever that means. Grow up and have fun watching the game instead of nitpicking every little thing. Jeeze! If you can't enjoy a game when the SOx are up 9-3 I have no idea what is wrong with you. Are you never happy, ever? It will never be perfect. Deal with it. It once was...
  17. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) watch the game get postponed with all the rain coming in. that would suck because the offense is looking great against this green pea the Marlins put on the mound. Yup, the guy with the 3.10 ERA last season in 24 starts.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) Go deep Dye.... Almost.
  19. Who is that right fielder? And what have you done with Jermaine Dye?
  20. So Lee won't be back until Sunday.
