Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays ALCS Thread
FlaSoxxJim replied to kjshoe04's topic in The Diamond Club
I was at Game 2 with my wife and kids on Saturday and it was awesome, real intensity from the newfound TB fan base. I hope they contend for the next couple of years because It's great to finally see some fan support in the Tampa Bay area. That said, boy do I wish it was a White Sox ALCS game I was at. It ups the envy I have for all y'all who got a chance to see the 2005 ALCS and WS games live. Here's to TB hopefully taking at least one at Fenway and bringing the series back to Florida. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) I had some Pain Killer last night. It was a bit sweet for my taste but it was pretty good. They are sweet, but if you stick to 4:2:1:1 as your pineapple/rum/oj/coco lopez ratio, and if you dust with fresh grated nutmeg like the original Soggy Dollar Bar and Pusser's incarnations do, I think it's a well balanced drink.

QUOTE (Felix @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) I met up with my friend Evan on my way home from work today, and we started hanging out right when I got back. That plus no food all day equals some fun times at only 7. Heading out to the bars in a few hours, that should make things even more enjoyable. Now I have a George Thorougood song going trhough my head. I got a bit of bad news regarding a freelance gig that I have been doing for te last two years and, frankly, kicking arse on but for some reason I'm not being renewed for the new contract year. Pain Killers, Tahitian Sunsets, and Pineapple Donga Punch has helped me wrap my brain around the friggin' $24K I'm not going to be making on this contract this coming year.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) Knowinghow to gracefully leave a relationship, job, internet message board, etc. is a great life skill that will pay dividends. You never know when you will be swimming back upstream and having grace and class will help. I Break With Thee. . . I Break With Thee. . . I Break With Thee. . . And then you throw dog poop on their shoes.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) I am getting in a kayak and crossing the Gulf to go drinking with you. I figure crossing the Gulf in a kayak is safer than the following consumption of alcohol. You got me thinking. My gf does not like coconut, which knocks out many tropical drinks. The Donga Punch outline just might be perfect. Not liking coconut takes away some of the classics like Pusser's Painkiller #2 (maybe my "stranded on an island" tropical drink choice), Blue Hawaiian, etc., but as long as she likes rum, lime, and pineapple juice there are still loads of good boat drinks to be had. As for all y'all yukking it up over the donga punch. . . I'm just glad I didn't talk about the Pineapple Double Donga I made the other night!

Jager. . . ugh. My Grand Tiki Adventure has brought me to the Donga Punch, an original 1937 drink by the Father of Tiki, Donn the Beachcomber. Lime juice, white grapefruit juice (rare for tiki drinks), cinamon infused simple syrup, and a generous pour of 5 year Demerara rum (I can't afford the aged Martinique rhum Donn used originally) makes for a really exceptional and different drink. If I find the grapefruit is making the flavor profile a little dry or bitter, I'll sub half of that with pineapple. I'm really liking El Dorado Demerara 5 year as the backbone in several faux tropicals. Makes great whites (coconut milk and nutmeg, Mmmmm) and Tahitian sunsets really come together, and also makes for a really nice mai tai if I don't want to use up my favorite 15 year Demerara. Also working out the kinks in a traditional "one of sour, two of sweet. . . " Jamaican rum punch. Equal measures of light, golden, and dark rums and a secret slug of Jamaican strawberry syrup make a decent punch, but substituting aome allspice-infused Wray and Nephew overproof for the light rum definately brings it up a notch.

What's with all this level-headedness and calm discussion. What has SoxTalk come to?? CHICAGO WHITE SOX 2009!!!

Continuing to go in the right direction, slowly but surely. Down 30+ pounds for the year, and within 9 pounds of mytarget weight. I think I may have herniated myself somewhere in the last coupld of months, because I have abdominal discomfort that I've not eenable to relieve through diet or medicine. I'd speed up the process and attack my flabbiness if I could add back more exercise, but with teh way my abs feel already from this mistery ailment i know I'd probably really injure myself.

Yeah, time to make peace with te St. Pete family I married into. Rays all the way! That said. . . I have ALCS game 1 and Game 2 tickets, but it's going to be hard watching playoff baseball without the White Sox in the mix.

They made a run at it this year and came up a little short against a very good Rays club. It would have been nice to see them battle back from the deficit a little bit today, but sometimes it's just not meant to be. All in all a fun year in which we stayed at the top of the heap for most of a season in which nobody thought we'd contend. I can't be too disappointed with that.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) Yeah, what's with the cowbells. You are in a dome as it is, you can't make enough noise by yelling? Even though it's a dome and so it gets loud easy, I was at both of the last games and it was crazy loud. Didn't help matters much that I was flanked by my Rays fan wife and byddy who both had the cowbells going in my ears. As bad as these last two losses were for y'all to see on teevee a home, trust me, they were much worse suffering through them live.

Javy is going to bring his game and pitch 2-run baseball through 7+ innings. If the bats show up, we'll take Game 1.

What a difference a week makes. The team played heartless and gutless all of last week and much of September. Now they have some fire in them. I'm mostly sorry that I let a crappy patch of September baseball totally ruin my demeanor. This year's team just drives me nuts sometimes. :gosox3:

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) You know what? Winning is how traditions are born. SO why not stick with the black out? The white out? LOL I don't know, I think our players wouldn't be able to pick up the ball. Do you think the Blackout was inspired by the behavior of fans drinking for 3+ hours of rain delay and then another 7 innings of baseball yesterday? -

I may just have to play this damn song non-stop until our year ends, one way or another. -
I'm sitting pretty with a ticket to Thursday's game, with a Sox fan friend and two Rays fan friends, and then again for Friday, flanked by my Rays fan friend and my Rays fan wife. Mrs. FlaSoxx my arse. Logistics are going to be tough, with two days of criscrossing the state and trying to cover my but work-wise, but it should be fun. Or, maybe it will lead to divorce. My buddy also has tix for us for a potential Game 5, Gawd forbid it goes that long. I am offocially STOKED for October baseball. :gosox3:

Minnesota @ Chicago - One Game Playoff

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) I expected him to go. Be agressive force the action in a low scoring game. Yeah, I can't argue with the decision. It took a perfect throw and AJ to hold onto the ball to nail him. -

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) I must have missed something there. Why was a throw needed? Wasn't there 2 outs??? Yeah, with Griff's catch.
