I got the Dear John letter for ALDS last week. I understand I don't have to re-register for an ALCS chance, but do I have to for WS (fingers crossed)?

I'm holding ALDS tix for Thursday at Tropicana. It sure as hell better be the Pale Hose coming to town! If I do my part and listen to Don't Stop Believin' 100 times before game time, it's in the bag. LET'S DO THIS THING!!! :gosox3: -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) Jake Hahn, the son of Assistant Sox GM Rick Hahn, told his dad to call "heads" on the coin flip which decided whether the Sox or Twins would be the home team for this game 163. Ah, ok. For a second, I thought the kid suggested calling that weird kid from Iowa for advice.

QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) I love to cook. I REALLY love to cook. It's how I unwind after work. My wife loves the fact I enjoy it so much, and that I try really hard to be good and usually succeed. My wife and I both love cooking, but we both hate cleaning up afterward. I guess we didn't think it through when we got married.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) Gas is definitely more convenient and easier to manage heat-wise, but I much prefer the flavor of food grilled over charcoal. ^^^ New Orleans cuisine is my favorite food to cook. my favorite four dishes are dark roux everything gumbo (shrimp, suasage, chicken and oysters), crawfish etouffee, BBQ shrimp (which strangely enough are NOT cooked on a BBQ), and a Louisianna-ized French crawfish dish called ecrevisse a la Montagneuse.

Yeah, but if we won one this series and were 1.5 up, two Sox wins and just one lousy Twins loss and we wouldn't even have to bother with the Tigers make up game. Just woulda' been sooo much better for my sanity.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 12:56 AM) It's a game, people. Unless your wife is gonna leave you based on the White Sox performance, there is nothing to be embarrassed about. That looked like a real possibility for a while, and may still happen, since me and my Rays fan wife would be at the Trop watching the two teams face off if it came to pass.

There is never a doubt I will give my full support to the team regardless of where they are in te standings. But there's no swagger in the team right now and it's palpable enough that you can physically feel it. There were fleeting 2005-type moments this season where you knew the guys on the field never gave up and never believed they couldn't come back and win. That's just not there right now, and this is THE TIME they need to find it if the potential mountain in front of them is winning 5 in a row to finish out the year. I already have tickets to the first home games at Tropicana for the ALDS, and I really hope it's my White Sox coming to play my wife's Rays. It's just become monumentally harder to get there by not managing to scrape out a single game at Minny.

My 10-year old daughter is awesome. She called Papa (my Dad), a Southside White Sox Hardcore if ever there was one, and started up a conservation about the Sox and Cubs possibly meeting in the WS. papa told her the last time that happened was 102 years ago. Without missing a beat, and giving me a wry smile, my kid asks Papa in a straight deadpan manner, what that 1906 series was like. :lolhitting I saw what she did there. :headbang

You continue to kick butt on this thing, Rex. Great job. I have enjoyed a couple of nice meals on the cheat weekend, even hauling the family 45 minutes north last night to get broiled rock shrimp at the best shrimp place on earth. Having a few boat drinks as well, and working on perfecting my Barbados rum punch is the process (fresh grated nutmeg and guava juice are the secrets. btw). Now I will be ready to get back to the regimen tomorrow, knowing that I can drop a couple more pounds and it doesn't cost me the decadent things i like sometimes – it just narrows down the windo of opportunity. Mrs. Flaxx is also doing good with this one, so I'm proud of her as well.

Get BootCamp (free) or Parallels ($100-200 I think) loaded up and you can boot natively in Windows for anything you might still need to do on the Dark Side. You will never have a reason to switch back to the cheap iron again. Welcome to the Hive

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) I must say also, if you've never seen it before, it is truly a remarkable sight. Definitely recommend doing it, if you ever go down to Australia, it's the nicest area we have with the surrounding holiday islands for sure. But yes, hopefully a solution can be found. I went in 1999, and spent a week in Cairns, Queensland and absolutely fell in love with the place. Diving on GBR remains one of the thrills of my life. I also got to tour several Queensland DPI fish hatcheries and spend some time in the Kuranda rain forest, and get over the mountains and and into the outback for a bit. Spent a week in NSW as well, mostly in Sidney but got up into the mountains as well. I'm dying to get back there, but last time it was on work's dime and I don't think i can get them to spring for another trip.

Yippee! 11 days on the Death March Diet and I've been able to drop that weight I had gained back over the last couple of months. I lost 8.6 pounds and am very pleased. Better still, today is the first of three "cheat" days and I can actually drink some beers and boat drinks. I might also have some pizza or pasta or something equally decadent.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) The way the Great Barrier Reef coral is eroding over time though due to Global Warming, these little creatures are probably in trouble anyways (back me up here FlaSoxxJim). Right you are, although it's a combination of warming waters and acidifying waters (both are the result of global climate change) that is of most concern.

Kool Beanz indeed. Sadly, with a growing number of biologists suggesting the GRB may be largely dead by 2050 if we don't figure out how to halt ocean acidification, this may ultimately amount to cataloging new species just in time to know what names to put on the tombstones. The institute I work at has been involved in some Census of marine Life work as well, studying fish biodiversity on the Mid-Atlantic ridge. That work has turned up a good many species that are new to science as well.
