I got the Dear John letter for ALDS last week. I understand I don't have to re-register for an ALCS chance, but do I have to for WS (fingers crossed)?

There is never a doubt I will give my full support to the team regardless of where they are in te standings. But there's no swagger in the team right now and it's palpable enough that you can physically feel it. There were fleeting 2005-type moments this season where you knew the guys on the field never gave up and never believed they couldn't come back and win. That's just not there right now, and this is THE TIME they need to find it if the potential mountain in front of them is winning 5 in a row to finish out the year. I already have tickets to the first home games at Tropicana for the ALDS, and I really hope it's my White Sox coming to play my wife's Rays. It's just become monumentally harder to get there by not managing to scrape out a single game at Minny.

My 10-year old daughter is awesome. She called Papa (my Dad), a Southside White Sox Hardcore if ever there was one, and started up a conservation about the Sox and Cubs possibly meeting in the WS. papa told her the last time that happened was 102 years ago. Without missing a beat, and giving me a wry smile, my kid asks Papa in a straight deadpan manner, what that 1906 series was like. :lolhitting I saw what she did there. :headbang

You continue to kick butt on this thing, Rex. Great job. I have enjoyed a couple of nice meals on the cheat weekend, even hauling the family 45 minutes north last night to get broiled rock shrimp at the best shrimp place on earth. Having a few boat drinks as well, and working on perfecting my Barbados rum punch is the process (fresh grated nutmeg and guava juice are the secrets. btw). Now I will be ready to get back to the regimen tomorrow, knowing that I can drop a couple more pounds and it doesn't cost me the decadent things i like sometimes – it just narrows down the windo of opportunity. Mrs. Flaxx is also doing good with this one, so I'm proud of her as well.

Yippee! 11 days on the Death March Diet and I've been able to drop that weight I had gained back over the last couple of months. I lost 8.6 pounds and am very pleased. Better still, today is the first of three "cheat" days and I can actually drink some beers and boat drinks. I might also have some pizza or pasta or something equally decadent.

Sadly, with a growing number of biologists suggesting the GRB may be largely dead by 2050 if we don't figure out how to halt ocean acidification, this may ultimately amount to cataloging new species just in time to know what names to put on the tombstones. The institute I work at has been involved in some Census of marine Life work as well, studying fish biodiversity on the Mid-Atlantic ridge. That work has turned up a good many species that are new to science as well.
