  1. The epic hunt for the Lib-ruhl Media will continue, just as the hunt for Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and other mythical and very scary creatures continues.
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) Have lots and lots of sex. Not a bad suggestion at all. After all, you're going to need to do something while your wife is out shopping.
  3. Jake Blues, Elwood Blues, and Sara Palin all know a Mission From Gawd when they sees one. From Palin's June 8th address to the graduating class of commission students at the Wasilla Assembly of God church: "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [u.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan." During that speech, Palin also promoted a $30-billion natural gas pipeline project as yet more of Gawd's Great Plan: “God’s will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built.” Sweet Jeebus.
  4. Congratulations!! No suggestions on anything to do, sadly, since the last time i was in Hawaii I was three years old.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 01:05 AM) It seems like political conventions are like the real life whacking day from the simpsons for police. Except people instead of snakes. And no Barry White.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 12:55 AM) In half-assed defense of the law enforcement officers, there are a LOT of crazy mofos protesting at the RNC. The DNC was relatively quiet. I'll wait and see on it as well. But, I've read that local law enforcement broke out the pepper spray, rubber bullets, concussion grenades, and good old excessive force in carrying out their duties Monday. Toss in abrogating freedom of the press and journalistic First Amendment rights by arresting press members after they have identified themselves as such, including video footage of the DN producers getting bloodied up pretty good, and it will be difficult for the police department to come out looking very good.
  7. Amy Goodman and two of her Democracy Now producers were also arrested at the convention today. An announcement was made that they were released lat Monday night. Tomorrow's episode of DN should be quite interesting, and they will broadcast video of the arrests which were apparently excessively forceful not to mention illegal since the three were arrested while carrying out their journalistic duties.
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) It doesn't matter who he picked, you guys would be going crazy over a 'scandal' with any VP selection. Not really. It's a matter of known versus unknown quantities. Most of the leading GOP veep contenders had already been scrutinized enough that there wouldn't be a bunch of little surprises like this to catch McCain's camp flat-footed. "Troopergate", having to square Palin's past support for Big Oil windfall taxes with McCain's stance against them (and Palin's own family industry ties), and the McCain campaign trying to quickly punt and paint Palin as the climate change expert on the team when she's an avowed climate change denier. . . those are just a few of the things the campaign has had to deal with in just 5 days since tapping her for the spot. "First do no harm" is the golden rule of VP selection, and it's already obvious that the campaign failed in that regard with this selection.
  9. Biggest take-home on for me so far with all the Palin revelations since she was tapped is that McCain's team doesn't know how to vet potential running mates.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 05:22 PM) Thank you. I'm going to bed now, it's been an exhausting day. I received the Matlock Collectors DVD and watched six straight hours. Did you do that after reminiscing and rewatching the White Sox World Series victory highlight reel? The 1917 one, I mean. We were all there for the 2005 one, but there aren't many of you who remember that other one. Hope it was a good one.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) Just as a thought experiment...let's say that Senator Obama's kids were a bit older and we found out one of them was Pregnant at age 17. Or we found out that Chelsea was pregnant at age 17. What would the reaction have been from the Limbaughs, Hannity's, Dobsons, etc.? Would they have left the kid alone? You and I both know the answer to that. Hell, Chelsea got pretty pummled just for being a little frumpy growing up. If she became pregnant while Clinton was in office, it would have been like Christmas for the wingnut bobbleheads. Dad's perceived loose morals ruining those of his daughter, etc. Not even a question they'd have been all over that for as long as possible.
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) Bristol Palin is flat out off limits in my opinion. I wont even comment on it at all. In my humble opinion, even the best parents in the world have kids that dont follow their moral or ethical standards. And frankly, some people make mistakes. In other words, teens will be teens and people will be people. I agree. But I only get concerned when "Family values" elected officials decide they can dictate and legislate the choices my daughter would be allowed to make in a similar situation. If Sarah Palin and her family believe choice is not an option in their case, fine, that is their decision. I, however, also think my daughter's choice should be off limits to the Uber Christians, but sadly it is not.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) FWIW, in response, Obama said that people's families are off limits. In general, I think that's as it should be. And I hope the daughter is not hounded on this. But I think it's a funny double-standard in politics (on both sides of the aisle) that every candidate has to trot out their all-American, family-values family for photo ops and feel good, and there's no distinction between candidate and family there. But as soon as there is some family issue that could put the candidate in a negative light, then privacy is of the utmost concern and family is off-limits. I actually don't think the media or the Obama campaign has to do anything in order for this to be a major blow. Family Values Sarah Palin's oldest daughter is either about to get disappeared to some Magdalane Home for wayward teen mothers or she will be there in the thick of things during the election, front and center and pregnant. Either way, it's a big black eye for Palin and McCain and their attempts to score with "Values Voters" no matter if it is brought up by the press or the opposition or not.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) naw, this shouldn't matter. Troopergate might. No, doesn't matter in the least. Abstinence-only education really really really works. Honest. And even though Palin is rabidly anti-choice and doesn't believe in choice, she and the rest of the McCain camp are going to try to score political points by stating how proud they are of Bristol Palin's "choice" to have the baby and to mary the unnamed father. A 1985 DUI for Palin's husband doesn't matter. This will matter, and should matter, even though I agree I'd like to see Bristol Palin's privacy respected as much as it could be. But, before we as a country elect officials who are going to be instrumental in the legislation of our so-called morality and are going to decide whether abstinence-only education is going to continue, let's see how well all that morality and abstinence preaching is working out for the Palins.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 06:38 PM) Thanks Jim. I was thinking about going to Okinawa but i'm not sure how to get there on public transportation... isn't there a ferry or something? Yeah, there are some two-day ferry excursions to get to Okinawa Island and, longer excursions to get into the more southern Ryukyu islands. I hope you make the trip, it will probably be a trip of a lifetime.
  16. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) How does Sarah Palin attract a large blue collar vote? Her husband is an oilfield roughneck. I assume he'll vote for her so that's an increase of at least one.
  17. OK, here's a serious response as to what I'd like to do in Japan. I have not been, so these are not suggestions based on experience, mind you, but I've wanted to go my whole life. My wife has little desire to go, but my daughter wants to so when she turns 18 I told her I'd take her there as a birthday present. I would spend enough time in Tokyo to get a feel for it. Eat good sushi, drink a ton of nigori, and maybe work up the courage to try fugu. I would take my daughter to the Abbey Road Live House and watch the Parrots, probably the best Beatles tribute band in the world with a playlist of more than 200 songs (the Beatles only officially released (214). I would see the snow monkeys up in the mountains. I would go in the spring to see the Sakura (cherry blossoms) blooming. I would see Mt. Fuji. I'd like to do some scuba diving in Okinawa. I would tour a couple of Sea of japan aquaculture farms (Seriola, Porphyra, yesso scallops), and then I could write the trip off as a business expense. I would pay my respects to the Hiroshima kami at the Atomic Bomb Memorial, and I'd try to go on a game day to see a baseball game as well. I'd visit Hiroshima castle while there as well. I would tour a sake brewery and drink some more nigori, hopefully for free. I would take in as many countryside Shinto shrines as my daughter will tolerate. That's all I can think of right now. Wow, good thing i have 8 years to save up! If you go, have fun!
  18. Tossing political correctness out the windo again. . . "That's more confusing than Fathers' Day in da 'hood."
  19. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 12:35 AM) Personally, I think "America, the Beautiful" should be the national anthem. "The Star Spangled Banner" while being inspirational in it's own way, is still about about war when it comes down to it. "God Bless America", which I have personally have no problem with, still has the religous connotations to it. "America, the Beautiful" has nothing controvesial within its lyrics and highlights some of the finer points about this great land of ours. Great song, but could you imagine the shrill sound of a stadium full of bad singers straining to hit the "AH-bove the FRUIT-ed PLAAIinnne" parts of the song? Ouch.
  20. QUOTE (Shadows @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) I was looking for porn when I stumbled across this site.. I accidentally typed in soxtalk instead of sextalk and here I am today Ha! I did exactly the same thing! easy to make typos like that. Of course, I was trying to type in chickenplookingmisgets.com, so I guess I really mangled the spelling to wind up here.
  21. I just re-read the entire thing and i think i herniated myself from laughing so hard. :lolhitting I miss Apu
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) well, I think everyone had to re-register because parts of the old board got nuke'd. This is true. I remember being PO'd that I lost like 500 posts when I reregistered in 2003. That's like a mediocre posting afternoon for SS.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) He's just doing it to score some votes. He sure clinched mine!
  24. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) I had forgotten about the ronald mcdonald thread, that was hilarious. Was that the "Grimace ate my balls" thread, or was there another immortal McDonald's thread I'm forgetting about?
