QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 23, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) This movie was quite brilliant, and folks who think the ending is laughable should go back and watch the whole thing from start to finish. Oh, and the party video was awesome. Phoenix's reaction was incredible. Yeah, if you get the events out of order, I could see why the ending might not make sense, but if you have all the info, there's nothing to complain about. To each his own though. I'm not the least bit religious, so I wasn't offended, and I can suspend disbelief with the best of them as well. Yes, to each his own. M. Knight's "shock" surprise ending thing had really worn thin by this time. Rod Serling has been dead for 33 years but he could still write a better twist ending than the turkey of an ending they slapped onto Signs. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 23, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) It still doesn't make any sense for aliens to invade a planet that is literally covered in a substance that is extremely toxic to them. No, it doesn't, and unless the only place thy invaded was Death Valley, the atmospheric humidity should have been sufficient to scorch their skin and lungs, right?
  2. "Three easy payments of $XX.95". I know the demographic those infomercials are aiming for may be mathematically challenged, but just tell people what the stupid price of your stupid miracle product is. And while you're at it, stop with the veiled threats of unrevealed consequences if we don't "ORDER BY MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!!!"
  3. Chico's 25th Anniversary Expedition Bigfoot does not disappoint. I just cracked into my first one. 23 to go.
  4. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 22, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) I would think that for me, the electric models would have to get over 100 miles between charges, and not take all night to recharge. Oh, and also cost less than $153,000! This is the one for you and me both then! Miles Autiomotive If they can pull it of it will be unbelievable.
  5. Nobody has left a comment. Flaxx is sad.

  6. QUOTE (shipps @ May 22, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) I hate the smell of bacon. It reminds me of the stench of the bacon treats I used to give my dog. I love the smell of fresh cooking bacon, among my favorites along with the small of a hot brew kettle.
  7. Hilarious. I bet it will be huge at bar mitzvahs. Archie McPhee has been on a roll ever since the Albino Bowler oil painting and head-losing Marie Antoinette action figure.
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 22, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) It's sad some of us know/remember this totally inconsequential stuff. :/ The Swahili language has no irregular verbs.
  9. QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ May 22, 2008 -> 09:40 AM) Back in the first year or so of the show, there were a few other "regulars", and I like a couple of them more than the eventual "core" 4. One was played by a really young Molly Ringwald and the other was a long haired blond whose name I don't recall. SFF Some of that initial core cast (Lisa Whelchel, Julie Piekarski) came from the cast of the New Mickey Mouse Club that had debuted a year or so earlier. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 22, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) If I recall correctly this was a spin-off of Different Strokes. Kimberly attended the school for a while or something. Mrs. Garrett was the Drumond's original housekeeper before they spun her into working as the housemother at the school on Facts of Life.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 22, 2008 -> 08:20 AM) Joaquin Phoenix's reaction to it was hilarious. That is true, him jumping back after seeing the video was good. Seeing the reflection of the last alien in the tv was also good.
  11. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 21, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) yeah I used to call them my two heathers....In fact I remember I always wanting to date a girl named heather cause of those two....I finally did and she was just meh....I mush have built it up too much.... That is some epic cameltoe there.
  12. QUOTE (juddling @ May 21, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) Bo knows puberty!!!!!!!!!! And she pulled off that Predator hairdo better than Manny.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) Did you see a different version of the ending than I did? Because as I recall, he hit the ALIEN with the bat first, it fell, the water got on it, THEN they realized that water did the trick. No wonder you hated the ending!!! Yeah, I probably do have that timeline of events out of order, but that still doesn't salvage the ending. There was no surprise in the "surprise" ending since the guy who killed Mel's wife had already told him that the aliens didn't like water and that's why everyone else went to the lake. The ending was just a slow slog to the inevitable aligning of all the miscellany – the kid leaving the water glasses everywhere, the preposterously convenient alien vulnerability to water, the brother's failed baseball career, the kid's asthma, the dying wife's last words – all leading to the boring but happy ending and the rediscovery of the ex-minister's lost faith. Yep, still leaves me flat.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) Totally disagree. I thought the ending was great. Signs > Sixth Sense > Unbreakable >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> His other two films Meh. The "swing away" bit was cr@p too, but I know a lot of people thought it was brilliant. All the half-full glasses of water were already scattered around the house, but the film wouldn't have been heavy enough if the family just threw the DEADLY STUFF at the alien, Juaquin had to take the bat from the wall and smash the glasses to get the job done.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 21, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) The Aliens weakness is water. They are smart enough to travel across entire galaxies and they come to a planet where pretty much everything is 70% water??? I was actually enjoying SIGNS up until this. Bingo.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 21, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) You are definitely in the minority on that opinion. I don't know that is the case. Sixth Sense is certainly the most solid thing he's done. The over-the-top comic book logic of Unbreakable was somewhat palatable because the whole film was very much a hero versus anti hero comic book. But, for how good the buildup was in Signs, the ending was just really flat. Water as the weapon Mel's family used to defeat the last alien was stupid, and the fact that they never even bothered explaining what the rest of the world did to to repel the aliens (I assume it also involved water) was about as bad as the "they must have done something to us" storyline copout from the Abyss. And if Shyamalan was going to cop out on a decent means for repelling an alien invasion, at least he could have raped the bones of H.G. Wells and gone for the microbe thing. Water??!!?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) Agree on all. I thought Signs was his best though. Sixth Sense > Unbreakable >>> Signs. Even by M. Knight standards, the ending to Signs was really lame.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 15, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) Coke in London/Paris/Rome is AWFUL. Yeah, I gotta disagree as well. The stuff with the real sugar is much better than the corn syrup stuff we've gotten used to.
  19. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 15, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) meh, there are places that mess up the fountain mix so bad that the drink is unrecognizable. Glass bottles are the best I agree with that. And I nearly got laughed out of the state of Florida when i came down here calling pop pop like the Good Lord intended so I tend to just call a Coke Coke now.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ May 15, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) Why don't you get the remake set? I already have that set, but only have a couple of original cards from the 1962 set. I also have some of the Topps Batman cards from te 60s that were painted by teh same guy who did Mars Attacks. That guys Civil War set is also way expensive now, but pretty cool in all its comic book gore.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ May 15, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) Have fun! If I was single and irresponsible that set would be mine. It may have to be mine anyway. Damn, I'll be sleeping on the couch for a week once the wife finds out. Which is totally not fair – she gets to buy groceries and clothes for the kids and stuff, so whay can't I buy something nice for myself?
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 15, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) $20 too much? So what else do you want? Nope, it beats the heck out of the $2,000 I'd drop if I tried to buy a mint 55-card set of the original Mars Attacks cards.
  23. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 15, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) Anyone remember a trading card series from the late 80's called "Dinosaurs Attack!"? Earlier this afternoon I happened to read an article discussing a recent fossil discovery and, for some reason, thought back to the long-departed series. The ridiculous premise behind the cards (which follow a storyline) is dinosaurs are transported back to our current world through a malfunctioning "time scanner" and reek a terrible vengeance upon humanity. These are, outside the anime world, the most gruesome cartoon photos imaginable. It's difficult to say how these cards would be tolerated in today's world, since we've just substituted images of violence onto our video screens instead of trading cards, but I love it how these were marketed to children. My brother owned several of the cards, and even before I found the website below I remembered one image vividy: http://www.bobheffner.com/dinosaursattack/front7.htm. It's disturbing for a young child to see that, lol. Main page link for anyone interested in viewing the complete set: http://www.bobheffner.com/dinosaursattack/indexfront.htm Wow, those are great. I kind of knew those had come out, but had outgrown most card collecting by then. Only in looking back at that set do I see what a great job they did of paying homage to the 1962 original mars Attacks series with the garish colors and the over-the-top comic book graphic gore. I want that set now.

    i am drunk

QUOTE (The Beast @ May 14, 2008 -> 11:05 PM) Why do you need to keep me out of this thread? I'm not talking about drinking right now. @ Felix: I work when I want to in a much better town than Charleston, IL and I have much more fun with the friends I have here. But hey, that's perfectly fine and it's great you have people you enjoy "doing your thing with" at your college. @ FlaSoxxJim: That sounds nice just working at a music store and eating and stuff, minus the drinking part of that and I'd be set. It was all part of a very fun summer. The record store manager used to work at the Greek joint, and we knew all the managers of the bars and hung out at after hours parties with the local bands and whatnot. Would have been a great summer no mater what, but for me it was that much more enjoyable if I had a beer in my hand and a few in the tank. Now that I think about it, I was stoned out of my gourd quite a bit that summer too, and that certainly didn't hurt either. Nothing that a few stitches couldn't fix anyway.
