2005 soxtalk awards?
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) is that for "most underrated, totally awesome poster poised for a comback award"? Why, yes, yes it is. Actually, it was a bassist/singer kind of connection I had in mind.

If you could GIVE any gift. . .
QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) I admist I blatantly stole this from the Tribune. But I think it's kind of an interesting question. . . So, if you could give someone ANY gift, what would it be? In an act of complete selfless giving, I would give the institution I work for a 20,000 square foot state-of-the art Ocean Science Museum and Visitor Center. I would then make myself the director when nobody was looking.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) I downloaded some aimee mann yesterday, I'd never really heard of her or listened to her stuff--she's really good. I really like her. Aimee Mann Aimee Mann Bachelor No. 2 is one of my mostest favoritist albums ever. Perfect, clever, catchy songs, shades of Burt Bacharach (in a good way), amazingly mature lyrics that are smart but not pretentious. If you didn't download the song "Nothing is Good Enough" go find it. Right now. Amazing to see the musical talent that the hot platinum blond from Til Tuesday all those years ago evolved into. EDIT: I tried to post this with a couple more notworthy and wub 'motercons but I got an error saying I was using too many. Clearly, an exception should be made for Aimee Mann (Whom I very much wub).

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 12:20 AM) Sucka, you’d best not be implying stuff about my viewing habits re Miss Janet and that boy twit. Not at all. I just figured that even someone who has kicked the TV ad habit might get a smile from some of the Super Bowl spots.

I wouldn't normally do this..
I can only imagine how agonizing it is for the parents going through this, but I agree Joey is in excellent hands. And he has a lot of people from all over pulling for him. Positive thoughts. Keep taking care of each other.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) TIVO. I bought one over four years ago and have zipped past commercials ever since. Be honest. You take the Tivo off zip mode to watch the Superbowl commercials, don't you?

Seeing as his expertise is in Mediterranean religions and cultures, I might surmise that it might not sit well with the Vhristianity-centered faculty members that he was the Religious Studies department chair.

Baby Boomer Quiz
QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) 22 right. And I don't know the Beatles' last album, and I don't care! I think it was Abbey Road, but it could have been Let It Be. Who knows? Not me. Ah, one of the great Beatlehead debates. Of course the Let it Be tracks were laid down before the Abbey Road Album was done, in the "Get Back" sessions. But everybody goty to hating everybody else and they walked away from it and never mastered an album for release, realizing instead that if a split was inevitable then they need to go out with the big bang that was Abbey Road. After the break up, Lennon brought the not-yet-murderous Phil Specter in for some heavy-handed overproduction (admittedly, some tracks were pretty lean, but I tend to like that), and finally Let it Be came out as the last EMI studio release. So the dilemma becomes what order do you listen to the albums in if you are listening chronologgically to the whole catalog as I tend to do quite often. I usually defer to chronological release order, although Abbey Road is certainly the exclamation mark at the end of the Beatles' run.
