  1. QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) 22 right. And I don't know the Beatles' last album, and I don't care! I think it was Abbey Road, but it could have been Let It Be. Who knows? Not me. Ah, one of the great Beatlehead debates. Of course the Let it Be tracks were laid down before the Abbey Road Album was done, in the "Get Back" sessions. But everybody goty to hating everybody else and they walked away from it and never mastered an album for release, realizing instead that if a split was inevitable then they need to go out with the big bang that was Abbey Road. After the break up, Lennon brought the not-yet-murderous Phil Specter in for some heavy-handed overproduction (admittedly, some tracks were pretty lean, but I tend to like that), and finally Let it Be came out as the last EMI studio release. So the dilemma becomes what order do you listen to the albums in if you are listening chronologgically to the whole catalog as I tend to do quite often. I usually defer to chronological release order, although Abbey Road is certainly the exclamation mark at the end of the Beatles' run.
  2. I got 23 because apparently I'm old as dirt.
  3. It's Coulter's birthday, btw. So Said Garrison Keeler this morning on the radio.
  4. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) Eddie and Valerie, divorced after 24 years. I have never forgiven Eddie for stealing Val away from me all those years ago.
  5. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) I understand the whole of all marriages have a 50% success rate, but that's just the average. I know that when I marry Miss PA it's forever, as I know many people here feel confident about with their spouses. so maybe that it's just some people shouldn't because they're not designed or possess the skill set that is required to keep a marriage together. I agree with you here 100%. The 50% failure rate is in large part due to a whole lot of folks getting married that really shouldn't because the marriages are doomed from the start. I mean, who could have predicted the Spears/Federline marriage was going to end badly?
  6. QUOTE(mreye @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) That's hilarious. We were talking about Benny Hill yesterday at work. I found this. Wow, could I ever waste some time on that site.
  7. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) otherwise known as "the 30 second polka" Mrs. Flaxx particularly likes the part where the old bald guy inexplicably walks in right in the middle of it and I give him a couple pats on the head and send him on his way.
  8. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 08:38 AM) Or, just don't do it at all. Spoken like a true member of the Eternal Bachelor Herd.
  9. Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind. I tell them there's no hurry, I'm just sitting here doing time
  10. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) Yakkety Sax? Yessiree. It would also be my getting-it-on porn star music.
  11. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) it was implied Damn. Now I have to get the Cliff Notes to the New Testament to pick up on all the nuances I missed.
  12. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Why do people feel it's necessary to get married in a church? I know not everyone does, but i would expect the majority does. It's odd that some people don't go to church, but want to get married there. a little help? For that matter, why is the social contract between two people still dressed up in religious trappings. I agree, fight the system and get married far away from a church.
  13. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) P.S. my favorite theologian is Jesus. paul is the only other acceptable answer I don't like people telling me what to believe. Jesus never had any suggestions as to what to believe?
  14. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) As much as I love John Lennon and his music, I can not help but be curious what he would be like in 2005. What would be his opinion about the war in Iraq? Negative I suspect. ... One good aspect of him dieing when he did is he is not making music that most people do not care about like the Paul McCartney and Rolling Stones. It is so sad to see some of the old time rockers that do not know when to hang it up. It was never a problem for John. I would sooner have one more Lennon album that another Paul McCartney cd. Unfortuntely, that opportunity was stolen from this world. I think your general dislike for late-era McCartney stuff is warranted, in comparison to his best work certainly. But please try to get a chance to listen to the new release with an open mind (Chaos and Creation in the Backyard). 2/3 of the tracks are really strong, and even though a couple are forgetable none of them suck.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) There is a school of thought that says that Roosevelt allowed Pearl Harbor to happen as justification for getting into WW2. That school is apparently the group that rides the short bus.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) Wait a second... so if I'm 33, I'm in the older person's club? Is there a prize with that or something? It is a dubious distinction, to be sure. Happy Birthday, Old Fart.
  23. I didn't hear the speach and have yet to read the transcript. Did Peter Feaver whip this up too?
  24. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Of course they aren't Christians. Christians don't do that. But it doesn't mean they don't self-identify as a Christian. I doubt it's an evolutionist plot tho. In Lawrence they all sip Lattes at the Bourgeois Pig while discussing the merits of Wittgenstein. Not a violent bunch. I used to dig a Lawrence band, the Backsliders. Ever hear anything from them?
