The only thing I'll regret about an online game is that noone will be able to see and appreciate my TOTALLY b****IN' POKER SHIRT! It has been known to hypnotize and even blind people. Deal me in when you get it together.

Ozzie says Frank will get a CAT scan this weekend and if it looks like the foot is healing he should be back in 4 more weeks. He goes out of his way to say he's not counting on a return though. I don't know if that is based on anything or if he's trying to avoid setting up expectations of teammates and fans that Frank will be back and then find out he's not going to make it back.

Not George... he converted to Latvian Orthodox...

Yeah, Contreras for Esteban is the only move we made. Once the dust settled from the 4-team deal that sent Nomar to the North Side, I think all the Twins did was move Mientkiewicz to the Red Sox and pick up a minor leage LHP (Justin Jones) from the Cubs.

Glad to hear everything is looking positive so far. Continued good thoughts go out to you and your family.

They were giving away Detroit Stars hats today too. They're kinda cool, but everybody would think you worked atTexaco or something...

What the hell is up with Jose?! I love the guy but he's killing us single-handedly every damn game.

In the Bizzaro World maybe ... "The right-hander is signed through 2006, with the Yankees paying $3 million of the $15 million Contreras is owed over the next two years."
-
It sure doesn't sound like that's the case from the official release on theSox site... "The right-hander is signed through 2006, with the Yankees paying $3 million of the $15 million Contreras is owed over the next two years." Sounds like It'll cost us $6 mil a year and not $4 mil.

That's pretty cool. His fight to get where he did and not let OCD keep him from making it is a great and inspiring story. Still, he seems like he'd be pretty easy to screw around with at family parties and stuff...

I recall the Reinsdorf quote you are referring to if it was within the last few days. the 'money is not an object' sentiment struck me and on rereading, though, I concluded it was only with regard to one specific trade scenario being discussed at the moment (maybe Randy Johnson or someone qually high-value - I can't remember). I decided that quote was NOT to be inferred as giving KW the financial green light for anything else. Reread the piece again if you can find it and see if you come to the same conclusion.

My brushes with greatness are relatively underwhelming…. As a kid I met White Sox pitching “legend” Bart Johnson at a little league banquet. Selling hotdogs at a Buckingham Fountain concession stand in high school I had Ron Howard, Casey Kasim (sp?) and his wife (who played Nick Tortelli’s wife on Cheers), Kathleen Turner, and the drummer for long-forgotten 80s band Art of Noise (who got me and my girlfriend onto the guest list for a show that evening at the Meto which was kind of cool). I met a teenaged Joan Cusack at a Christmas party in Evanston in the mid-80s. I got to be pretty friendly with Terri Hemmert (“Auntie Terri”) at various Beatlefests over the years. I met Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, Dave Pegg, and Doane Perry of Jethro Tull at a record store appearance. I met Andy Partridge, Colin Molding, and Dave Gregory of xtc. at the XRT studios after a live on-air deal. I met Adrian Belew at several solo ao Belew and he Bears shows at Mabels in Champaign. I met, beat at pool, and got pretty hammered with the replacement drummer for Flock of Seagulls in the early 90s. I met Dweezil Zappa and FZ bassist Scot Thunes at a music clinic in Champaign. I met Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer Billy Cobham at a music clinic in Chicago. I met number one Beer Hunter Michael Jackson (not the singer/pedophile or over-the-hill reliever) at a beer tasting dinner at a Jacksonville brewpub. I met Hendrix pal and Band of Gypsies drummer Buddy Miles at a Florida performance. I participated in a rehabbed dolphin release with popular marine artist Wyland. Jacques Cousteau’s daughter-in-law and grandson Phillipe worked on in the same building as me for several years. I met the last EPA head worth a damn, Carol Browner, at a signing ceremony granting protected status to the marine system in my ceck of the woods. She presented me and my group a commendation signed by her and Al Gore for an educational software title we developed on that ecosystem. I met then 10-year old slide guitar phenom Derrick Trucks and his uncle Butch Trucks (now both in the Almann’s lineup) and took him to my lab to see a bunch of freaky fish when I was in grad school. And the crowning brush with greatness: I me and got my Fender Telecaster signed by Stevie Ray Vaughan after a 1987 Foellinger (sp?) Auditorium concert in Campaign.

He also does the moonwalk, robot dance, hustle, can-can, and the YMCA dance. That's some chicken. Great Avatar Soxy!

Just when you think we're climbing back into the game... Damn.
-
Crap, he plays a mean air guitar too!

Did I mention this is brilliant?! Tell him to clap and see what happens...

This is a Burger King ad!?! Brilliant!

I'm starting to think it's just a really (really really...) ugly mangy dog.

What's worse is how Jose and Crede are apparently trying to outdo each other in the defensive brain cramp department these last two games. DP ball through Crede's legs... Jose can top that with a botched catch on a pop foul. DP ball Jose can't toss to Willie with a decent throw. Crede shows that up with a rediculous phantom tag that was a dead-on caught steeling (insult to injury Sandy gets charged with a passed ball error when he managed to make the peg).

Dave Wills puts things into perspective for me
FlaSoxxJim replied to BobDylan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's something when you're all caught up in so many trivial issues and then the things that really matter hit you in the face. I had an eerily similar experience today at a seminar where a college student was delivering a summer intern presentation on a project screening sponges for anti-cancer activity. I was wondering what got her interested in the topic and then at the end of the presentation she pointed out her twiin sister in the audience, with an oxygen bottle, headscarf, and succumbing to advanced cancer... Be excellent to each other. -
