  1. Like lots of others, I found my way here by way of Soxnet by way of WSI by way of Chisox.com. I'm embarrassed to say I continued to post at chisox.com blindly thinking that was the best thing going and would just read the pieces at Soxnet by that nutty Gage guy. Then when Soxnet folded I followed the link to it's partner message board... SOXTALK! Under my very nose and I didn't even realize it.
  2. With just a couple days left to go before the non-waver funny post deadline, Wong and Owens reveals how he found SoxTalk on the "How dod you hear of Soxtalk" thread...
  3. Off to the quotables thread with that one... And I hope your unfortunate under-endowed friend without the computer remembered to thank you for doing that search for him too, right?
  4. Yeah, by Kenneth Anger. It's a classic, even if some of the juicy scandals may not be entirely believed anymore. He's got a follow-up out as well and also Rock and Roll Babylon (that one is really good).
  5. No, Arbuckle had nothing to do with it but he was also an invitee to the floating party.
  6. I bought that one, Park, Life, and the Kalas '59 book for my Dad the last three Christmases. Now I just have to "borrow" them when he's not looking...
  7. Thanks for the self-correction cw - I was about to call Dad up and tell me he's been wrong on his '67 tale of woe all these years. His memory is not great (and it has nothing to do with getting older), so I wouldn't have been surprised. Here's a capsule of the last weekend of 1967 by Dan Helpingstine - author of "Through Hope and Despair" - from WSI:

    Mood Lifters

You're near the cool old cemetary too then. I used to study inder a massive old oak tree in that cemetary and used to also go over once in a while to upright the headstones the drunk assholes would tip over after football games.

    candy

I can take or leave candy most of the time, with the exception of Rese's peanutbutter cups. At 4 and 6, my kids have already learned to hide their Halloween candy or I will steal and eat their Ree-see cups. Salerno Butter Cookies are my kryptonite. I would weigh 300 pounds if I could get them down here.
  11. OVER?... OVER?!? Nothing is over until WE SAY IT IS! WAS IT OVER WHEN THE... GERMANS BOMBED PEARL HARBOR...?
  12. Famous last words... That thing is just waiting for a shot at someone!
  13. OK, back to the Arbuckle Scandal... Yeah, I knew he was pretty much in the wrong place at the wrong time in the murder charge, but it's hard to let a good juicy scandal go, even 80 years later. As far as the "rape by implementation..." I know that was one of the initial theories set forth by the prosecuters as to how someone could have ruptured a woman's bladder and caused fallopian tube tissue damage. I think that was the official theory set forth in "Hollywood Babylon" but it has been a long time since I've read that. As far as the Chaplan thing, I'll have to dig up some info (Maybe it was also from "Hollywood Babylon" - don't remember." Basically there was a ritzy party on a yacht or a cruise ship and Chaplan was among the invited guests. He couldn't make it, and so his suite went to some relatively obscure bit actor Chaplan wannabe. Seems he was murdered during his stay. It went unsolved and didn't make much sense, but somebody later decided that it was in fact Chaplan who was the target but the job was botched. It was just after he and the others formed United Artisrts, and the big studios were PO'd because for tthe first time the Actors had some real power to change the industry and make it more equitable for the actors. That's the story I recall, I'll have to see what I can dig up.

    Roscoe Files

OK, first here's the damning photo proving that Marioti is the reincarnation of Fatty Arbuckle...
  15. OK, let's carry the Arbuckle Story over to SL&P. I'd do it myself, but the Powers Dat B. don't trust me enough to run amok over here with God-like Mod powers... Anyway, Kid, meet me over at the "Roscoe Files" for the big news...
  16. That's how Burke gets even!!! C'mon Joe B!
  17. So do you put any stock in the theory that the murdered lesser-known comic actor on the "Rape By Implementation" cruise (not to slam an innocent man, mind you) was supposed to be Chaplan but they botched the job? was it supposed to be paybeck for he and Doug Fairbanks and Mary Pickford screwing the cheapo studios with the formation of UA?
  18. By 'the man himself,' you mean a mutant two-headed Buster Keaton? And though Fatty, er, Roscoe, knew how to play 'hide the champaigne bottle' as well as anyone, thatmay not be the best reason to respect him.
  19. Thats' exactly where it comes from. It's one thing to have the chickenhawks on the hill thump their chests and sign off on a war that kills a thousand underpriveledged kids that enlisted as a way to pay for college or break a cycle of poverty. But it's outlandish for someone like Moore to suggest they would have a different opinion on the necessity of this conflict if it was their children doing the fighting and dying.
  20. Agreed on the Excorcist being the greatest, scariest horror film ever made. I remain hopeful that the upcoming prequel will be decent, though certainly not equal to the original. I saw the trailer the other day and it looks genuinely frightening and has an atmosphere similar to the original. Excorcist II: The Heretic is perhaps the worst film ever. Excorcist III had it's moments, but in the end was a tird retread of the original and most other splatter flicks of the day. Plus the insistence to bring back the dead Father Damian in some form was stupid and lacked imagination.
  21. I didn't know quite how the merg-a-ma-thingy was gonna work, whether I had to merge the older to the newer or what... Now that I know how it works I might just merge the s*** outa this forum just for kicks.
  22. Hmm, I've never tried merging a topic before... Here goes nothing...
  23. He's on there every night - it's HIS SHOW! Oh, sorry. by "jackass" I had to assume you were referring to O'Reilly.
