    Free iPod

Here's the meat of the matter from Tex's Wired link: What are the chances that any one of you who found one of the free iPod or flatscreen sites found them within the first few iterations if eBay, the FTC, and the UK equivalent thereof are already aware of the schemes? No thanks - I'm sticking with my Nigerian Princess-Orphan-Hottie with the massive bank account. Money in the bank, Brother.
  2. the props were for the music culture ref, not recognizing Santana's talent. I gotta admit that was a lollypop ref though that even my decidedly non-musical wife also basically made while watching the game. Also, I still think Jay looks like Fatty Arbuckle.
  3. Shep was great. His Birthday was Mondiy IIRC, according to Garrison Keillor on Writer's Almanac. Yeah, that pretty much sums up my indoctrination. My Dad still grumbles about the 1967 down-to-the-wire lost cause as well. Lucky for him we were living in Hawaii by the end of the season while he went to grad school. Experiencing that last weekend first-hand would probably have made my Mom a Widow. Of course, accepting the reality that being a Sox Fan is a bitter pill sometimes is a far cry from being complacent about it. Delusion that losing can somehow be lovable is the affliction of the lemmings on the other side of town. Sadly, if you're an owner, that means we have little patience as far as pouring money into a lousy team re fans in the seats at the games. We still have the games reloigiously - on the TV, on the radio, at the bar..., and when they lose for the umpteenth time we say 'yeah, they suck this year.' But we go back for more the next day, the next year the next season... That is OUR affliction. But a 3-game skid, less than 3 games back with two months left is NOT EVEN CLOSE to that 'yeah we suck' point of quiet resolve. I had to suffer through the Twins FSN broadcast yesterday (made all the worse because of quips like "Jamie Burke couldn't make the lineup today because he is being reassembled in a hanger at Midway Airport...") because Extra Innings doesn't get the WCIU games. But they said we have flip-flopped leads in Central 13 or 14 times this year. I'd rather we were 10+ games up too, but we'll probably flip-flop a few more times before it's done. After today's WIN (Esty, I'm looking in your direction!) we don't see the Twins for more than a month. We can forget about their infuriating habit of playing above their level and hope that their tough back end of the schedule catches up to them and - more importantly - the Sox do what they're capable of doing against our weaker division rivals. In all likelihood the last 6 games against Minny will be the deciding matches for both clubs. No Frank and no Magglio sucks for sure, and that may end up costing us the year in large part. But that's where we are and it is what it is. 60 games left. Let's play them.
  4. We know you've been busy battling the alien insect hoardes in your garage (any Identification yet?), but this was sooo last week... http://www.soxtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=22381&hl=hyote
  5. Ouch! Yeah, I hemember seeing the replay of that collision now that you said it. I didn't even remember that - must be getting old... It sure was a heck of a lot harder following the team from afar back in 1996, with newspaper box scores, the token WGN broadcast here and there, no Extra Innings cable package, and NO SOXTALK.
  6. Maybe you're thinking about Fordyce after he left the team. I don't know that it was play-related but a couple of springs ago with the Orioles he nearly died from intenal abdominal bleeding. His wife heard him fall hard in the middle of the night and found him lying unconcious in the bathroom IIRC. Other than that, I'm not sure.
  7. They we're not horrible but they cartainly can't hold a candle to the first one. You just have to suspend a LOT of disbelief and just go with it to derive some enjoyment out of the last two.
  8. Find the replay. Watch Burke take not one but two steps inside the 3rd base line to give Hunter the plate while he waited on the ball. Then watch Hunter put his arms up and step out of the basepath to intentionally clock Jamie rather tthan taking the slide to the plate Burke gave him. It was bulls***. Hunter had every right to be prepared to take Burke out on a hard play at the plate IF he was in the path regardless of whether he had tha ball. Burke gave hime a clear and uncontested slide to the plate and instead Hunter took him out.
  9. I was dumbfounded to not hear even one of them suggest Hunter took a sheap shot. Just basically said "welcome to the BBig Leagues, Jamie" and (MISTAKENLY!) said that's what you should expect if you block the plate withoit th ball. Which Burke did not do, as the replays clearly and without question shhow. I can only assume BTN is pandering to the Central champs and not trying to escalate anything. Of course if it was a chance to throw gasoline on a Yanks/Bosox bonfire they'd have all been right there. Then again, they were all really busy shamelessly exploiting Giambi's potentially serious health issues to pay much attention to any actual baseball...

That is my plan. natch. It will be GOOD TO BE THE KING. A King buys his own damn iPods!
  11. Did you see the play? Burk gave him the plate and Hunter stepped out of his way to bulldoze him. Cheap ass prick.
  12. That was a bulls*** cheap shot by Hunter. What a prick. No way they're going to have Garcia plunk him tomorrow early on and get tossed though.

You guys can waste your time on measly iPods and flatscreen TVs, I just got a WAY better email offer. Check it out. AT LEAST $2 million, maybe annual payments from the interest, and maybe even a little fling with a Nigerian-orphan-Princess-hottie to boot. Who's the dummy now? Obviously I'm not including her email address in the quote below - I don't want any of you suckers horning in on MY action. Sounds like she really digs me, eh?
  14. As was I, when I added the two inanimate choices to the poll. I do realize bread mold can't write for s***.
  15. Glad Birthday Tidings to the both of you!

DUDE, that story is so TOTALLY TRUE. My Mom's Sister's neighbor's son was a roadie on that tour so I know...
  17. Is the weather going to hold out? Kick some Twinkie Ass, White Sox!!
  18. Intelligent... You mean he asks people other than US?
  19. And Beastly Pulls way ahead of Jay, and leaves Bread Mold in the dust! Just funnin' on ya, brother!
  20. Lucas wrote the story for both Empire (screenplay by Leigh Brackett) and Jedi (screenplay by Larry Kasdan). The point is that he was smart enough to not try directing either of those himself (Irv Kershner did Empire and Richard Marquand did Jedi), and instead concentrate on doing what he was really good at - being a very imaginative visionary and letting other talented people sweat the details. I had hoped that after Episode I Lucas would have again given up the director's chair. Sadly he didn't. In Eoisode I Lucas demonstrated that he still was a visionary but also that he now has NO IDEA how to direct scenes where actual flesh-and-blood humans have to interact (in retrospect, we found out a lot of those scenes were composited in post-production with the people not even filmed in the scene at the same time -- and it shows). How odd for a director whos earlier efforts were all about interpersonal interaction (American Grafitti anyone?) to have become so soulless. So George was pissed that Episode I got panned and said "I'll direct the next one and show everyone." And he turned out more of the same forgettable fare, got more of a chip on his shoulder when II also got panned, and here we are waiting for him to "Really show us" this time around. Aside from the fact that the efffects and the CG have become the real stars any the only thing Lucas seems to have any passion for, I think cw absolutely hit it on the head. All along, we've known where the prequels had to lead and there is no real suspense - just this uncomfortable waiting around while Hayden Christensen transforms from being merely a very bad actor to being a very bad Sith Lord. I'm sure I will see the film. I'm sure I will be disappointed. Ah. the Cinema Magic...
  21. The Southtown bit that noted this today might be a bit misleading. It said Joe has contributed 4 of the team's 11 last inning victory blows. But if those hits came in the top of the inning in an away game it's not a walk-off victory. I'm too lazy to go back and find them.
  22. Comedy GOLD! And he's here through Thursday, folks. Don't forget to try the veal.
