Who should Romney choose as VP candidate?
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 6, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) Will adding another "GOP establishment" pick hurt the conservative base's enthusiasm even more? I don't think it helps, but it won't make them any more fired up than normal.

Who should Romney choose as VP candidate?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) Rubio says he's out. Somehow doubt they'd go for a Bush right now. Christie, I hate to say it, but his weight will be an image issue. He's also a little brash. I think Romney may have made a deal with Gingrich, for Newt to either be VP or in his cabinet, in exchange for staying in the race as long as possible to keep Santorum at bay. They had a private meeting a couple weeks ago. Neither of the Paul's are going to work at all. I think he goes for either Paul Ryan or Bobby Jindal - if he doesn't have a VP deal in place with Gingrich as noted above. Chris Christie brings no help to the ticket. He would not be able to deliver New Jersey to Romney. A powerful GOP establishment figure who can bring a state in play is what's crucial in Romney's pick IMHO. Rob Portman of Ohio might be a great pick actually. As long as you don't mind having two really dull people at the top of the ticket.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) It seems like, in the last few years, Scalia has just plain stopped trying. Its sad, and another good reason for SCOTUS justices to serve one term, maybe like 10 years, and be done. No re-nomination or re-election, just one and done. Justice Thomas, in contrast, I don't believe has asked a question from the bench in six years.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 24, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) Unless they have an email or a taped phone conversation or something else which shows Corzine knew the money was customer money when he ordered it sent, nothing is going to happen to him. The fact that no one would sign the confirmation JPM sent to MF clearly indicates to me someone knew, at least soon after. This internal memo is really nothing new and definitely not a smoking gun. Maybe if they get Edith to talk, she can give them something. I would think MF customers want someone to pay, but would rather it be Corzine than an assistant treasurer who was just doing what she was told. IMO JPM is clearly not innocent either. If they required that confirmation, why did they post the money to that overdrawn account without it? MF has hurt the entire industry. Actually, there was an email uncovered over the weekend that indicates that Corzine was told it was a nonseg account where the funds came from. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/e-mail-corzi...-125007482.html

In April of last year, Zimmerman called 911 to report a "suspicious looking 7 to 9 year old black male" in his neighborhood. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012...-abuse-911.html

Indiana Secretary of State Ruled Ineligible
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) In Illinois? He should run for Governor. Zing! I think the House has to impeach him if found guilty. I believe that forces a special election IIRC.

Trayvon Martin
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Rex, Imo police should enforce the law, not interpret it. When I say this, I mean that they should not be put in this position: Why put it on the police? There is no reason a quick decision has to be made. This isnt "probable cause" when it comes to breaking down a door or looking for a criminal, where time is of the essence. The law should have put it in the DA's hands of whether they ultimately prosecute. There is no good reason (that I can think of), to prohibit the police from charging someone who admits to killing another person, and then waiting to see what facts come out. It seems pretty cut and dried to me. The kid was never on this guy's property. He was doing nothing but walking while black. At this point we have a 911 call where he refers to a black kid as "those people", in the same call he follows someone who was never a direct threat to him who is running away from him, there are reports that he also used a racial slur at the time it happened, phone records indicating that the kid was on the phone with his girlfriend, and shot the kid 70 feet from the kid's parent's house. If the situation were turned and Trayvon was the person that killed Zimmerman, do you honestly think that we would be having this debate right now? At the very least, he'd be charged with manslaughter, if not murder. We have a police department that essentially chose not to investigate until the attention got too loud. There's a whole lot that's wrong with this case, and the first thing is that a man who shot an unarmed kid who wasn't on his property and wasn't actually bothering him is not currently behind bars.

Trayvon Martin
I heard Zimmerman's 911 call. He called from his house to report a kid walking in his street. Trayvon ran away from the house. Zimmerman followed him, despite being advised by the 911 dispatcher not to do so. Zimmerman is ten years older than him and 100 pounds heavier. Trayvon was shot 70 feet from his father's house. The only person that was justified to stand his ground was Trayvon, in my opinion. Sadly a bag of skittles and a can of iced tea is no match for a gun.

Indiana Secretary of State Ruled Ineligible
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 10:04 AM) Without rewriting the rules to filling a vacated seat, you're only other option is a new election. To be honest, I feel that would be the most appropriate action.

Indiana Secretary of State Ruled Ineligible
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2012 -> 11:12 PM) Pretty much any of the normal ways of replacing an office holder would have resulted in GOP nominee seeing as they control the Governor, the House, and the Senate in Indiana. If you start saying that another political party should benefit, then you are getting into political solutions. I think if the election has to be essentially vacated because the candidate was never eligible to be on the ballot - in the first place - the party that wins with the ineligible candidate shouldn't just get to keep the seat due to party affiliation.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) Only if the voters are electing a party and not a person. But I don't have a problem with this ruling. I actually do, if the candidate didn't qualify to be on the ballot, which it was ruled that he didn't - the party he ran with shouldn't benefit from the fraud.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
So for all the talk of the fact that the narrative changed last night, the mathematics of it didn't. Romney was never supposed to win either of these Southern states. Two weeks ago, he was expected to finish in second or third. And it was close enough that the delegate edge is very slight for Santorum on the night. In fact, taking into account Hawaii and Samoa, it was nonexistent. Based on CNN and CSPAN Delegate Projections, it worked out this way last night: Ron Paul got 1 delegate Newt Gingrich got 21 delegates Rick Santorum got 35 delegates Mitt Romney got 39 delegates Not exactly the pace he needs to wrap it up anytime soon, but if the math is getting a little harder for Romney, its getting near impossible for everyone else.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) At this point, "Wraps up" is a relative thing. Unless rMoney's margin of victory starts going up, it's going to take him to June to really get enough delegates in hand to actually call the thing "Wrapped up". It's almost impossible for him to lose, but this is delegates, and if he stops campaigning in the primary/stops spending millions of superpac dollars trashing his primary opponents in every state, then his opponents can go right back to narrowing the gap. He has to keep competing. You're not wrong, but I think Santorum winning Bronze in one or both of these contests is pretty much the end of him being a serious contender for the nomination. If Gingrich doesn't win a state, you could see him bow out and endorse Santorum... so tomorrow night could be very interesting on many levels.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2012 -> 05:40 PM) Yesterday, Mitt rMoney won the caucuses in Guam and I believe took all 9 delegates. Today, Rick Santorum appears to be crushing the Kansas caucuses (he was the only one to contest the state) and may take home all 40 delegates. Rick Santorum is probably only going to get 33 delegates out of the 40, the remaining seven going to Mittens. With Romney winning all the delegates in Guam and Mariana Islands, plus splitting the difference in Virgin Islands, and winning Wyoming as well. What does that mean? Rick Santorum's crushing defeat of Mittens in one state ended up cutting into Mittens' delegate lead by less than 10 delegates. If Gingrich and Mittens split victory in Alabama and Mississippi Tuesday - which is a very real possibility - Rmoney sorta wraps this thing up.
