  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 12:03 AM) I agree with your basis here. But then again, Rush did call a spade a spade when he called this guy a phony soldier. Pointing out that someone is lying about witnessing war crimes is hardly the same as waving little flags. Whether or not they are dying needlessly, they don't need leftist assholes making up bulls*** and going to the media about them. And as for Kerry, he doesn't need Rush to defend him. He has Jane Fonda in his camp. You're right. They don't need anyone making up bulls***. And for every made up story that you find from the left, you can find made up stories, ginned statistics, or complete and total spin on the right too. Let's be honest. Rush Limbaugh meant more than that one person when he said phony soldiers. He meant any critic of the Iraq war who served. Your service doesn't matter to Rush if he can score a cheap point off you on the air. Because he's in the business of making entertainment, not getting people elected. And right now, that includes making fun of war protesters.
  2. Anyone watching that Tila Tequila show on MTV?
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) Well I don't know about that... What are the odds that some gets killed in prision? I doubt other prisioners wait to find out if a fellow inmate is guilty or innocent "for real" before shanking them. Without knowing the statistics, I would imagine that some people who are actually innocent and in prision do get killed. If they hadn't have been wrongly convicted, you could argue they wouldn't have been murdered. I have a hard time with the arguement that you can't punish someone because of factors like that, because how far do you go? Do you quit sending people to jail because innocent people get convicted, and they might get murdered in prision? They are just as dead as if you executed them right? I would imagine the odds of being killed in prision are better than being executed, right? I wonder how the numbers would actually work out??? I think the difference here is that if the state has reason to believe in the guilt of an individual regarding a crime, the state has the right and ability to hold the suspect accountable. However, it's entirely reasonable to expect the state to refrain from directly ending someone's physical life - especially in the question of cases where there is some legal question regarding the conviction - be it over the denial of due process, or any question regarding the physical evidence. The state does not have direct control over anyone's every action. As such, the state can not be held responsible for the actions of one specific inmate in a murder. However, the state does have the responsibility to make sure that each ward of the state is being treated humanely and with basic human respect - regardless of the crimes committed by that person.
  4. Actually, I listen to Lionel and Thom Hartmann on AAR occasionally. Solely because there seems to be some thought behind it and it isn't slash and burn insults. I try to listen to WABC and find it just about impossible, with the exception of John Gambling - although with Imus coming in and them paring Gambling up with Curtis Sliwa in December, I'm thinking that last bastion of listenable talk radio on WABC is walking out the door.
  5. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) I guess I don't understand what the big issue was with Rush's statement. From what I read a called was distinguishing between soldiers who were in Iraq and soldiers who were not, to which Rush replied, "the phony soldiers." It sounds like he was referring to someone in particular who has been campaigning against the war even though they never stepped foot in Iraq (Jesse MacBeth, a war critic who falsely claimed to be an Iraq veteran). Is there really a problem with this? Do we honestly think every soldier in America is "real" in the sense that they've actually seen combat, or are even actively involved in any sort of war effort? It's bulls*** to make this argument that Rush is doing anything outrageous here. He said something stupid. Which pretty much happens on any day that ends in Y. But this is the same person who referred to Paul Hackett (Dem Congress and Senate candidate) as having gone to Iraq to "pad his resume." This game is old hat for Rush Limbaugh. Kudos to Limbaugh though, for raising a lot of money for charity off of a bulls*** move on the part of the Senate Democrats.
  6. Or one fill in host trying to make a name for himself on AAR.
  7. Anyone see Kucinich on Colbert Report last night? I was alternately amazed, entertained and confused.
  8. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) When did I claim that he didn't give anything? And why use an admittedly made up figure against me? My point was that he, being a rich guy who could easily make millions a year if he wanted to, is in a better position to afford the cost in giving money away. Therefore it's acceptable, IMO, for people to hold him to a higher standard or to expect that from him, especially since he's such a big advocate of helping the less fortunate. Because you claimed that he didn't give a significant amount of the money he makes to charity. Which is an out and out untruth. You made up a number because apparently you dont want reality to cloud your perception about something. He's a big advocate of helping the less fortunate. And he gives away half of his income in 2006 to the less fortunate. I really don't know how much of a higher standard anyone can expect of him.
  9. You said he didn't give up .005% of his annual income. When that ended up off by about 49.995% of his annual income, you switched it to Net Worth. Either he does what he asks of people or he doesn't. Maybe its time you let some truth enter your perception. I'm no fan of John Edwards, but it's just aggravating. Either he helps people or he doesnt.
  10. Hmmm... good question. It's all a matter of intent. Dr. Doolittle could tell us.
  11. http://www.comcast.net/news/politics/index...cookieattempt=1 Add another $333,000 to that as well, because he donated all of the royalties he received for his book in 2006 too.
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 09:35 AM) Oh no, I actually heard the phrase on a show that I had on when listening to the traffic report one night on the way home. The thing is, it fits. These guys are not "Republicans", they have long abandoned the issues that made them Republicans. They are a new breed, that cater to the media and Democrats, hence, "Re-pube-licans". If they really catered to Democrats, don't you think we'd actually be able to get things passed in Congress?
  13. Turns out, the AAR host that made the announcement, was lying. Randi Rhodes never filed a police report, because she was never mugged. She was walking her dog and fell down, badly injuring herself. Both her and her lawyer are denying anything bad ever happened. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/10/16...wasnt_mugg.html
  14. Speaking of which, Randi Rhodes was mugged and beaten while walking her dog this week in Midtown Manhattan. Apparently, the focus of the attack was on her face and mouth.
  15. George Michael just found a suit.
  16. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) For the life of me I couldn't remember. So it was JR playing hardball Yup, if Thompson hadn't caved to build a new facility, the White Sox would be playing in the Tropicana Dome.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) Because Communism works in some cases? There's no communism going on in China these days. But I think it has a lot more to do with China's utter lack of respect over individual human life.
  18. I think there's a big difference between posting viral videos about Presidential Campaign issues and growing a beard. There might be something to this, IMO.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) You may be right. It doesn't matter which crooked party the individual in charge came from. It might have been LBJ though. Who controlled congress back then? I'm just asking. I know Nixon pulled us off Bretton Woods but is that the same as the Gold Standard?
  20. Al Gore posted a bunch of videos regarding issues on his Current TV website. Could this be the beginning of Gore 08?
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 03:07 AM) I don't know. I'd be inclined to blame those in charge when we went off the gold standard and put the Social Security fund into the general fund. Wasn't that Nixon?
  22. Wow, Ron Paul running away with it here. If only Soxtalk were real life for that man.
  23. My friend who was a Chicago grassroots organizer for lotsa years in the 90s says that this is the kind of stuff that Obama is known for. His hour of door knocking is obviously a photo op, but I hope he can squeeze in a couple hours of direct voter contact a week. Honestly, it's something every candidate should do. Most voters would love to punch their ticket for you. You just need to talk to them and ask for it. There's no better way to do so than by knocking on their door.
  24. Everyone slags the Big Ten this year, but it seems to me many of these teams are simulatneously Giants and Giant killers at the same time. I'm excited for MSU/OSU on Saturday. I don't think the Spartans will win, but it wouldn't be the strangest thing to happen this year.
