  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) Its a nice way to take the "illegal" out of immigration the same way people have been trying to outlaw abortion and guns for decades. You just chip away at it little by little, and every once in a while pull out the sledgehammer and take a whack at it. If the whack doesn't work, you go back to chipping away again. This was part of the comprehensive reform package originally from what I understand. And I don't think that this is an unreasonable package. Adult children of illegal parents didn't have a choice as a toddler or child to be taken to the US. And I think it is entirely acceptable to offer them a legal path of citizenship once they've reached adulthood. Especially if the courtesy was not extended to their parents.
  5. There were two of us. And we rocked as hard as you can with fuzzed out guitar, cord organ and theremin, thank you.
  6. I've never been in a rock band with more than one other person.
  7. Sold my plasma in Amsterdam. Nursey, nursey, I dont see. Well I don't understand what your doin' to me. Nurse Rosetta, I won't let her, catch me peering down her sweater. Your mother's waiting for you, wearing her high-heel shoes and her low-neck sweater. Soft fuzzy sweater so magical too touch. To see her in that negligee was really all too much. Ho, ho, ho, It's magic you know. Never believe, it's not so, it's magic, you know. This magic moment. While your lips are close to mine. Will last forever, forever till the end of time. I'm not content to be with you in the daytime. Girl I want to be with you all of the time. No time for a summer friend. No time for the love you send. Seasons change and so did I. You need not wonder why. She wants to live in the Rockies. She says that's where we'll find peace. Colorado never knew sky so blue.
  8. Asked about a departure of a high level political strategist in his campaign, Fred Thompson referred reporters to talk to his campaign. Ummm, aren't you the face of the campaign? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071024/ap_on_...on_ap_interview
  9. Antonio Carlos Jobim - "One Note Samba" This is just a little samba, built upon one note. Other notes are bound to follow, but the root is still that note New topic: notes

  11. I've never been to a Disney park, or ever watched a Disney cartoon on purpose.
  12. I'm all about covers today. Cold War Kids doing "Electioneering." Yum. Nostalgia 77 doing "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes. I actually had to look up the song and see if the White Stripes covered these guys, because it sounds like the song should have from the beginning.
  13. I was born in a cross-fire hurricane. A pauper to a pawn on a Christmas Day when the New York Times said "God is Dead" and "The War's Begun". I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing. Love of mine, someday you will die. We've already said ‘So long’. I don't want to see you go. Oh you had better go now Because something about you makes me say wow. We got a wham bam shang-a-lang and a sha-la-la-la-la-la thing. Every shing a ling a ling That they're startin' to sing So fine. Grandpa was a Carpenter, he built houses, stores and banks. Chain smoked Camel cigarettes and hammered nails in planks. If I had a hammer, I'd hammer in the morning. You talk about the Hammer when you’re talking ‘bout a show. That's hyped and tight. There's a Hammer in My Heart pounding out your name. There's a Hammer in My Heart. . . Here in comes again. I go through all this before you wake up. Wake up in the morning to yourself, open your head and look around you. Just look around, yes look around. There is someone walking behind you. Turn around, look at me. See Me. Feel Me. Touch Me. Heal Me. Soon you will see me, cos I'll be all around you. Keep away from run-around Sue. Sue-ue-ue-ue-ue, who cares what people say? I tell ya. Life ain't easy for a boy named Sue. Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues, and you know it don't come easy. If you want it here it is, Come and Get It, Mmm-mm-mmm, make your mind up fast. So theres really no need to give any sass. Don't you give me no dirty looks. Your father's hip; he knows what cooks. Papa was a rolling stone. Wherever he laid his hat was his home. Well, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat. Well now she had a big hat, my it was high, Had bananas and mangos all piled to the sky And I'll search the world over for my angel in black. Yeah, I'll search the world over for my Eurotrash Girl.
  14. Well, I've never been to Spain, but I kinda like the music. Oh wait, wrong thread.
  15. According to Wikipedia, this is what the DREAM act would do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act
  16. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) If they were the first 2, then they wouldn't have been illegal, and if Dick claimed they were, that would have been a lie. If they were the third, then they either the parents, the kids, or both would have been illegal, then Dick would have lied about thier status being resolved. It's my understanding that legal aliens in our country that do not have permanent residency would also benefit from this act, no?
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Rex, the guy invests in things that takes money from poor people - programs specifically that sham poor people. The firm he has (had) made money from people's misfortunes. It adds up to me as an empty suit. But I guess no one is going to change their minds, so I'll just stop now. I just find it funny how the argument shifts. First it was, he doesn't give anything at all. When that's shown its not true, it's he doesn't give over a sustained period of time. When that's shown to be not true, it's he doesn't give enough and he made investments in funds that had holdings in subprime mortgages. I'm not excusing Edwards for making investments that are ethically questionable. I'm not saying there aren't some conflicts in his life regarding this issue. I am saying, that it appears to me that his concern is genuine, and he does seem actively involved on a day to day level with making a difference. It's this kind of inability to look beyond an imperfection in a public official's concern that has just made me not at all want to be involved with politics. And it's not just this particular issue that illustrates it, but its everything.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) In that same poll, if you just filter to the 18-29 year old voters...Stephen actually comes in 2nd, beating either Republican option. Given the desertion of the GOP by people under 30, that doesn't surprise me. Four years ago, voters under 30 voted for the Dem nominee 54-45. Truth is that the GOP is losing its party for at least a generation right now.
  19. We have moved most of our presence out of Germany. But if we relocate, where can we go? We can't go further east due to agreements with Russia about NATO from 1989. In fact US troops aren't allowed bases in the Eastern part of Germany. France kicked the US out in the 1950's, and there is no real geographic benefit of being anywhere other than Germany these days.
  20. I know it isn't. I think that what Limbaugh did is pretty cool with the letter. I'm just sick of people talking out of their ass about candidates not walking the walk in their personal life without any data to back it up. Especially when its a google click away. Edwards donates a significant amount of his income to charity and works for poverty reduction, whether you want to believe it or not. What he does a bad job of is making vain decisions that look like he isn't walking that walk. On the issue of poverty reduction, Edwards is not the empty suit he appears to be. This comes from people I know that have worked with him, and it comes from actual data.
  21. Not necessarily, the people at the hearing could have been there on a valid working visa, student visa, or could have been parents of undocumented children, etc.
  22. John Edwards donated, a shade under 9% of his income between 1994 and 2003 to charity - 3.3 million dollars. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/03/...urns/index.html
  23. The truth is, if you put anyone that isn't immediately stuck to one party or the other on a poll ballot these days - I think they'd get 10 or 12 percent of the vote.
