QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 12:46 PM) This isn't College ball. If the Yankees want you, and will throw their money at you, you're going to NY. If you want to be overpaid in Baseball, the Yankees are no longer the only option.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) Its effective if you buy a car there... Which there is no chance in hell of actually happening. But you aren't their target market I wager, given that you live in Indiana.

I saw "Stupid Network" and I thought you meant the CW.

Now that I live in NJ, my friends at home think I've become a New York type fan - because we have a horrible season and I want Ozzie to get the s*** can for it. In New York, you have a case where you have a manager who gets his team to the playoffs for over a decade consistently, gets them several rings to boot. He gets handed a super high payroll of players who seem to break down with injuries constantly, and yet his teams find a way to make it to the postseason. It seems that for the last 2/3 of the season, most of the time there was one big element missing from the Yankee game. The starting pitching was horrible, or the offense fell asleep, or the bullpen suddenly got shaky - and yet the Yanks found a way to win. That has to come, at least partially, from the manager. I don't think Torre is overrated. I think he might be overpaid. And the rumor is, that a lot of the free agents that the Yankees will be dealing with this offseason, aren't terribly interested in a Torre-less New York team next year.

Except, the kids receive a scholarship to go to that school and the parents aren't paying for it. And the lavish house that they bought, was purchased in 1991 for 55K. Does anyone in the GOP really think its going to get them points to go after a 12 year old with brain injuries?

QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 12:39 AM) I didn't read everyone's comments but I do agree with those who think he is somewhat overrated. I think dealing with the "Ego's" is overrated. He did win titles when the team wasn't the 200 million payroll machine so he deserves credit for that. His failures when it has been a team of AllStar signings though has been what has brought down his legacy. If he goes. I sure do hope they promote Larry Bowa. He is a nut and I would love to see the antics that happen in NY with him in charge. It could be some of the most entertaining baseball we have seen in years. Also, maybe him being so animated will give this team the life it seems to lack. Torre is always so calm and collected I think it has a negative effect on his ballclub sometimes. Just a little pulse out of him would do wonders for that team on occasion. Especially, with them appearing to be going younger next season you will need that. Leave the reserved types for hitting/pitching coach. Get someone fiery to lead the club. The Yankees played ridiculously well after about the 50th game of the season. They were 14 games back at one point and pulled within one game of Boston this season. The Yankees weren't lackluster until this past weekend. The problem with the Yankees is with their starting pitching. Clemens is done, Mussina's about there too. Wang is a great talent, but really inconsistent. They're starters just aren't world championship caliber yet. They have a good young core to build around though - people like Wang and Chamberlin will be good for the Yanks in the long haul, they just aren't where they need to be yet. Here's an interesting series fact for you. The starting pitcher for the Yankees in this series lasted on average less than four innings. How often do you win series like that?

Feds sue Illinois for flouting immigration law.
Rex Kickass replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
Not out of business, but it will do things like hike food prices. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing either. -

Americans will do them do. You just have to pay them more money. -
Media Matters claims to be 'unpolitical'
Rex Kickass replied to EvilMonkey's topic in The Filibuster
All I said was following ideological guidelines doesn't make you partisan. Identifying with an ideology doesn't mean you belong or are an arm of a political party that may share the same ideology. -

I'm sorry but being liberal, doesn't make you partisan. Nor does being conservative. -
Maybe we can trade Ozzie for Torre.

George Steinbrenner said this week that if Torre doesn't get his team to win the ALDS, he's as good as fired. Just curious, if he ends up on the market, would you like the idea of a Torre led White Sox?

Have you lost your mind Mr. President???
Rex Kickass replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
So why doesn't he just give the guy clemency. As President, he has the right to do that, no? -
I liked Back to You and Kitchen Nightmares on FOX. Also, loving the Sarah Silverman Program. Eagerly awaiting I Love New York 2 for some reason, and the Salt N Pepa Show and Project Runway. Morning radio broke me of good TV. Just bad reality fare for me thank you.

Tell me about it with their goddamned wooden shoes and holier than thou attitudes. Wait, were those toads? Or the hard of hearing elderly Dutch?
-
Yeah. I used to like toads too.

Jimmy Carter, ex-president, current badass.
Rex Kickass replied to Rex Kickass's topic in The Filibuster
You mean 2+2 isnt 5? I just think different is all. BTW: Here are some concrete acheivements Jimmy Carter did preside over as President: He nominated Paul Volcker, the man before Greenspan that helped tame inflation. He protected 103 million Acres of Alaskan Wildlife. He legalized home brewing beer, and as such is responsible for Microbreweries in the US. He deregulated the airline industry - which helped lower prices for air travel. -

Are you sure that isn't just 98.6543% ridiculous? -
I got my Clinton hating Bush loving father a Christmas present today. It's a countdown to Hillary's inauguration calendar I saw for sale at Borders today. They also have them for Obama, Guiliani and McCain.

Senator Larry Craig convicted of lewd conduct in men's bathroom
Rex Kickass replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
Larry Craig just put the Idaho Senate seat in play for 2008 by not resigning. Wow. Maybe 60 seats for the Dems isn't a pipe dream. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 09:01 AM) For reference sake, the median income in the United States in 2005 was $46,326 Net worth isn't median income.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) Yeah? He said that? I don't doubt it. He's also the guy who pardoned the men who tried to kill Truman and the men who shot up the House because they were "political prisoners." Presidential administrations dislike him for many reasons. I dislike him for many reasons, including his adoration of every dictator under the sun. Actually he only pardoned one man who tried to kill Truman. The other was killed at the scene IIRC. Oh and Pratt, read your Zinn - America loves dictators. Always has, always will. -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) In all seriousness, the Democrats are going to have a 60+ count in the Senate. Goodbye clouture. The Re-pube-licans are killing themselves by going away from their principles. Given the way it looks right now, I would probably see 54-56 seats for the Dems, and 42-44 seats for the GOP with 2 seats held by Dem caucusing independents (Lieberman and Sanders). You can cause a lot of havoc with 42 seats.

Rex Kickass replied to Rex Kickass's topic in The Filibuster
Although I think Carter misspoke on Venezuela, I think he kept us from an unnecessary war in North Korea in 1994. As much as he pisses off conservatives about how he speaks of the Bush administration, does anyone remember what he said about Clinton? I believe he called the man a disgrace because of the Marc Rich pardon. I think presidential administrations dislike the man because he's honest about his motives - at least post 1981, and honest about his thoughts - despite whether you agree with them or not.
