QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) Please. This guy made his money by being an ambulance chaser. He's scum and stupid comments like this don't help. My information comes from people who have worked with the Senator. With your tinfoil hat, your information clearly comes from the satellites of Major League Baseball which are reading our thoughts. I'll go with my information, thanks .

Official Hate for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread
Rex Kickass replied to fathom's topic in The Diamond Club
As lovely as it would be to see the Cubs choke, I personally wouldn't mind seeing more World Series baseball in Chicago, even if it is the Urinal. The Cubs would be no better than third in ANY other division in baseball. -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) FREDDY THOMPSON! Seriously, do you all think the Goracle is going to run? I do. Especially if he wins the Peace Prize. Rumor is, if it happens, he drops the hammer on the campaign next month. And he'd crush Hillary.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) She just needs to come out of the closet and say that she is 100% for the redistrubution of wealth from "rich" to poor and that she is a socialist commie. That's about where she is, without saying it. Except she's not. You can think that, but the Clinton administration in the 90s was all about protecting money. And with many of the same people back in power under a Hillary administration, you can bet the same thing will happen again.

I'm not an Edwards fan. But, I know people that worked personally with Edwards in 04. And they have no doubt that a lot of the things he talks about - regarding poverty especially, he is a true believer in. His comments aren't coming from an empty suit. It's too bad it just seems like it comes from one. Because your message can be great, but when you lack credibility to deliver that message, it's useless.

Anchors routinely did commentary pieces. Cronkite did so rarely, but he did so. On Vietnam, no less. Walter Jacobson does so as well, locally. So did Ed Murrow. So does Brit Hume. David Brinkley did.

This outrage, just like the outrage of Limbaugh calling soldiers who fought that are critical of the war effort "fake soldiers" is stupid and just meant to hide the failings of the people in power. Just like General Betray Us outrage actually hid the actual news for a good three days. It's all stupid.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) FOX news is not going to fire Bill O'reilly over this. I read the whole thing and I think it's hilarious that this is a "HUGE" deal now. Classic. Stranger things have happened. Fortunately for O'Factor, his bosses have traditionally had stronger stomachs than Imus' former friends at GE and CBS.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) What a joke. The reverend(s) Al and Jesse can pull racist s*** all day long, and it goes right on by. Perhaps you can fill me in, but what radio network and cable channel do Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have high rated shows on again? This is a function of making a living by being an asshole and playing the jerk. Eventually, someone bites back.

It is blowing up on New York radio though. The office radio was on a music station and the afternoon DJ was just going off on it. Taking calls talking about how insulting it is that O'Reilly seems surprised that African Americans know how to behave in public. Regardless of motivation behind it, looks like the Factor is on its way to being Don Imussed.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) I have had the same issues with GM. I will liekly not own a GM again. Same here. Coolant and electric issues all over the place. The UAW went to strike because they've seen GM's US workforce shrink by 70% in the last 15 years and they want to protect their workforce from shrinking further. I think that's a legitimate reason, whether you agree or not.
-
If you think it's about healthcare, you're wrong. It's about protecting jobs. 15 years ago, there were a quarter million UAW workers with GM. Since then, due to spinoffs and plant closures, its down to about 73,000. http://money.cnn.com/2007/09/24/news/compa...dex.htm?cnn=yes Looks like the UAW has been working with GM to lower health care costs as well....

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) I don't see ANY leader of the United States being allowed to go into a Madrassa in the Middle East and speaking about "freedoms and opportunity". Therefore, you don't have a valid comparison. There's a big difference between Columbia and a Madrassa. You don't exactly see Muslim leaders flocking to Liberty or Oral Roberts, do you?
-
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) Are they paying him to speak? No. I believe that they are also allowing students to question him as well. It's my understanding that his speaking engagement at Columbia will not just be a speech from a bully pulpit. In fact, the President of the University himself plans on challenging the Iranian president over the following: I don't understand why people are pissed that we are allowing the ruler of a despotic country the freedom to make an ass of himself. This is America. We don't restrict the movement of our citizens or our visitors, by and large - and we shouldn't do that to a head of state because we disagree with his policies. And if making an embarrassment of yourself is good enough for Britney Spears, its definitely adequate for this douchebag.

Liberals: Funding Our Destruction?
Rex Kickass replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in The Filibuster
That's great, but the original argument advanced here is that people here objected to schools respecting the faith of its islamic students. That had very little to do with the ACLU. -
Liberals: Funding Our Destruction?

I think the ACLU's position in this 8 year old case is incorrect. IMO, it's fine to make accomodation to allow students to express their religion without creating a state endorsement of religion. Like allowing a bible study group to meet outside of instruction times, or like allowing muslim students a carpeted floor to use to kneel and pray from, or closing the school because a large minority of students follows a certain religion and will not be in that day anyway. -
Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band the movie was way better.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) So what are they really blocking? The Webb amendment simply requires the Department of Defense to give units in combat theater an equal amount of time out of theater. So for example, the average unit spends 15 months in Iraq. By law, the DoD would be not able to send them back into theater for 15 months, and instead their service would be used in other bases, and for other needs. In order to accomodate putting 30,000 more combat troops in Iraq, the DoD lengthened the amount of time a unit would spend in the field but kept their "rest" time the same. So instead of the previous 12 months in, 12 months out rule - it was changed to 15 months in, 12 months out.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 08:48 AM) Holy crappola. I remember a time in the early 90's where it was like 1.75 to 1 (CAD to USD). Ugh. It means now there really is no reason to gamble in Windsor. In 2002 and 2003, I used to cross over to play blackjack because every third bet was free.

Iceland is a neat place. Their hot water stinks of sulfur and you have to test it before you step in the shower. Because its piped in from geothermal springs, it can be scalding hot sometimes. You just don't know. I actually went there to see Bjork. She seemed normal there, perhaps because the opening bands were much weirder.

Liberals: Funding Our Destruction?
Rex Kickass replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in The Filibuster
It's my understanding that the prayer is not school sponsored, nor mandatory. The American Center for Law and Justice provides guidelines for what would consist of the lawful exercise of prayer in schools. I fail to see the issue as to why its unacceptable to change a school's calendar to be respectful of the dominant religion within that particular school. Most schools have Christmas off, for example. On Long Island and in New York, many schools (public and private) close for Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah because of a large Jewish student population. Altering a schedule to be respectful of your student body's traditional schedule is fine. Providing a carpeted area to pray in, if people so choose to pray is fine. There's nothing illegal or even immoral about that. As for the "madrassa" in New York City, it doesn't teach Muslim teachings, it teaches Arabic and Arabic culture. The original principal was fired after OUTRAGE by people from the New York Post and WABC and WOR that she didn't seem to find the words "Intifada in New York City" offensive on a t-shirt. She explained the meaning behind the word Intifada and shrugged it off further by saying "It's just a t-shirt." Many, many educators stood up for her, including the person who succeeded this principal at this new school in New York City. By the way, the public school that everyone here keeps thinking is a Madrassa? It's principal is currently a non-Arabic speaking Jewish woman. -
For the first time since 1976, the Canadian Dollar reached parity with the US Dollar yesterday.
