  1. 1. I chose the University of Kansas over NYU in 1999. 2. I sell cruises but have never been on an actual "people paying to go on it" cruise. 3. I am about the same weight as I was when I graduated high school. 4. I once got into an argument with Andy Rooney. 5. I am an Eagle Scout.
  2. Til they find hybrid diesels. I think biodiesel is a big path to the future.
  3. It makes sense for the Democrats to focus on it over the next two years. In the last year, the Democrat fundraising apparatus has moved from big donors and corporate interests to more small donations from ordinary citizens. It's been a focus of Howard Dean's 50 state strategy. It's also a smart move because focusing on middle and working class families helps to counter the "liberal elite" persona that the right wing noise machine has created so effectively.
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) Car companies more and more are becoming knowledge centers. They all build cars, but each of them now tend to be leaders in certain pieces of technology. Toyota and Honda are those knowledge centers for hybrid engines, for example. Fuji Heavy (makers of Subaru) are the same for differentials for AWD cars, which are used by companies like Saab (GM) and others. Even traditional competitors are starting to cooperate with each other I am sure Ford sees an opportunity here for their future. GM has been slower than expected in getting hybrids out the door, and when they do, they aren't even real hybrids. Dogde/Chrysler/Jeep doesn't even do any hybrids yet, I don't think. Ford on the other hand had the first hybrid SUV. I am sure Ford wants to leverage that and be the American car company known for hybrid vehicles. But Daimler Chrysler is becoming a pioneer in clean diesel technology which is going to really help with flexfuel/biodiesel conversion in the US and will go a long way towards helping us become energy independent.
  5. For the GOP? I could see Mike Huckabee from Arkansas get the nod... I just don't see McCain keeping his momentum.... He's become a worse shill than John Kerry in the last couple years, and I think people will get exposed to it. Guiliani's campaign will be a mess the more he opens his mouth. I see an Obama nomination a distinct possibility, but I think theres a decent shot that Edwards or even Gore could get in there. I doubt Hillary has the nomination. My VP nomination lock: Former Gov Mark Warner.

  7. The hardest working man in showbiz is taking a permanent vacation. Passed away from pneumonia yesterday morning. I saw the Godfather of Soul in 2001, at a casino in Michigan. Truly one of the best concerts I have ever seen. RIP.
  8. Either way, the rhythm method never works.
  9. I would give Noam Chomsky's hand in marriage to Soxy.
  10. I thought he just threatened to pull out.
  11. Some analysts say that the reason Sadr is loathe to call for a ceasefire is that he really doesn't control his militias to begin with.
  12. Southsider, Nowhere in that article did it say that Swift was hiring at the same wage. My wager is that Swift just upped their pay a few bucks an hour so that they'd attract legal workers.
  13. Congresspeople are sworn in en masse. They don't actually have to hold anything.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) Yet, they are funding Hamas and other Islamic terrorists. So, they want to kick up the price of all and make the nations of the world fund their terrorism ties. They might have a billion or two that they're spending on that stuff... but not the hundred or two that they need.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) Yet they have the money for a much more expensive nuclear facility? Ah, it just keeps getting better. Damn I can't wait for $5 a gallon gasoline. I guarantee you that they aren't spending 165 billion dollars on their nuclear program. That's the amount foreign bankers estimate that Iran needs to maintain and upgrade their oil and natural gas program. You don't say that publicly unless there is a world of hurt goin on there financially.
  16. Well, Iranian Oil Ministers are beginning to publicly say that they dont have the kind of investment they need to fund their oil and gas programs.... So I'd put the over/under at 75.
  17. Macy Gray and Cynthia McKinney, separated at birth?
  18. Put the Ramadan back in the Ramadanalinglong?
  19. Bob Dole was a pretty moderate Senator.
  20. To be fair to Vilsack, TDS isn't exactly the place to answer a direct question.
  21. If that was true, we would have a different president today, IMO.
  22. Khatami's party lost power because of frustration over the speed of which the government was moderating, and also the corruption involved in Khatami's party. Iran's people are poor. They aren't often thinking about the international risks or benefits of who they elect. I guarantee you that the vast majority of them are voting for people that they think will make survival easier. I think the lack of moderation in China creates a good example that can be applied to Iran. A population will accept a constrictive social policy in exchange for the hope of food in their belly and a roof over their head.
  23. I think our response to Katrina would have been much better. I do think our standing on issues like Iran and North Korea would be better internationally as well.
  24. I'm a fool for Dave Brubeck and 7/8 time.
  25. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 01:23 AM) A true animation pioneer, dead at age 95. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireSt...5724&page=1 The HB television stuff from the 1960s was great, but my favorite works of Joe and Bill will always be the MGM Tom and Jerry theatrical shorts. As good as the best Disney theatrical stuff, and in fact these were the shorts that made Disney rethink the pace of their shorts and go more slapstick during the Donald Duck heyday presided over by Jack, the other animating Hannah. Flinstones, Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, Huckleberry Hound, Quickdraw McGraw. . . good stuff. Good run, Joe. Didn't Jack Hannah go on to open the Columbus Zoo? RIP and stuff.
