  1. Hell bent on lying to destroy you? That could adequately describe us from their point of view. We used clearly wrong justifications to invade Iran's next door neighbor.... Whether you think they are whack jobs or not, a state that acts responsibly negotiates with other states to advance its interests. Reagan may have called the Soviet Union the "Evil Empire" but they still negotiated frequently.
  2. So what's the other option? Start a war? Let them arm themselves anyway? Why do so many people think that talking to someone should be a reward for good behavior. North Korea is not a three year old. It is a country with a legitimate right to self-determination and a right to defend itself as it sees fit. Just like the United States has that right as well. If the United States or any other player on the world community doesn't like the way a specific state is handling their national defense, it has options to help enforce its agenda. Militarly, Diplomatically, Economically. In the case of North Korea - economic pressure really won't change much. We have a leader willing to starve his people to maintain his grip on power - so blocking trade really won't help much. Restarting the Korean war would destroy cities of millions in South Korea so that isn't much of an option either. What's the other option? Talking to North Korea - finding common ground and working to enhance both countries goals equally. The same things work with Iran. You can work for regime change while maintaining a diplomatic relationship with a country that it is unfeasible for you to start military action against at the moment. Why should you? Because what are the alternatives? A nuclear Iran? A war with Iran? Something tells me that I prefer the talking first.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) There you go again, trying to rename everything for Reagan. Weren't they Reagan/JFK in the past? Perhaps, ah, it'd be better to rename them for a different Conservative/Liberal. How about Al Franken/Rush Limbaugh?
  4. I just pulled the same list we've used for the last two years. We'll add some more soon.

  6. Best Sox Moment?: Two I can remember, Shingo coming on the mound at the Cubs/Sox game and striking Sosa out so insanely on a pitch so slow the speed gun didn't register it and the entire park going bat s*** crazy over it. The other is El Duque's amazing inning of relief in the 05 playoffs that they made the newspaper ad for. Worst Sox Moment? Ozzie Guillen's first game as a manager. Sox are in the driver's seat in the bottom of the 9th, all set to start on the good foot - then through Ozzie mismanagement and Billy Koch being Billy Koch - we disappoint. Kind of a metaphor for the entire season to follow I felt.
  7. I'd win the "Always in Second" award, but somehow I finished second.
  8. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 20, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) Lock Box! think Al Gore will run for president in 2008? If he does, his advantage is to come in late. He could steal everyone's thunder by waiting til as late as November.
  9. Yesterday, I spent much of my afternoon in the ER. With chest pains. Wasn't a heart attack - but at least it wasn't gas. Turns out my chest wall was inflammed. So I went out and celebrated not having a heart attack! Woo! New York City! Vegetarian Tacos for everyone!
  10. The White House counsel who once called the Geneva Convention "quaint" said the following this week while testifying before Congress. The Attorney General of the United States is responsible for enforcing the laws and constitution of the United States.
  11. I believe all the musical numbers are written and performed by They Might Be Giants.
  12. I was listening to Free FM in NY today and they were playing audio of the bit on the air and dissecting it as it goes. I will say this. The morning show's on-air attitude was definitely inappropriate about the risks involved on the air, and that may deserve some punishment. However, the morning show participants did actively encourage her to abandon the game at one point and she did eventually (she didn't win the Wii) but it was too late. Some people should be fired. Including the GM, but he wasn't fired. He had to approve the stunt - and if he didn't, he ought to get fired regardless. My guess is that at least two or three of the ten people here lost their gig despite not wanting to do the promotion in the first place.
  13. If anyone wants a true moderate, best to be voting for Obama out of the current crop of candidates. Unlike McCain, Romney, or Guiliani, he's not a moderate when convenient. He's moderate enough to piss off a lot of base Democrats all the time. Whether or not he peters out is left to be seen, but Obama is no crazy liberal, that's for sure.
  14. Makes my 8K posts seem paltry in comparison.
  15. The morning show's existence has already been scrubbed from the website. 10 people fired. The program Director, the Morning Show, the Promotions Director, the morning Producer and two others (probably interns or part timers)
  16. Rumsfeld Leaves Most Recent Job off his Resume
  17. The morning show would be more likely to get the axe - not the Promotions Director, honestly. Good ones are hard to find for 20K a year.
  18. Not necessarily... if she had an iron clad disclaimer, if it was the show's idea and she had a paper trail.... But I wonder if that station is hiring....
  19. Oh really? Maybe it should be. After all you don't know.
  20. I've been a promotion director at a radio station before. I've orchestrated stupid contests like that before. I can't imagine what the promo guy/girl at that station is doing or feeling right now.
  21. The reaction might be the same, but the result sure as hell wouldn't.
  22. I wonder if we could pass a "sugar daddy" clause... so that way gay people that are excluded from being able to serve can be excluded from having to pay for it. The government spends nearly 500 billion dollars of its budget on defense. The total budget is about three trillion give or take a few billion. So that would be about a 17% tax rebate I'd get, right? This way everyone's happy. Gays get tax cuts. And Nuke won't have to worry about whether or not a queer is looking at him funny - since that's clearly his concern about the men and women he works with.
  23. If you can't work with people because of who they are, you should revisit your definition of grown up.
  24. A sweetheart deal in a bill that she didn't author and whose "exclusion" was placed in by the delegate of the affected area which has been overturned. If this was business in usual, that exclusion would still be there.
