I thought Californication was alright, as a Blood Sugar II but it didn't age well, and everything since has just been a retread of that. And so much studio "magic" to put Anthony Kiedis in key.... The RHCP have the musical chops to be really good, just not with the current lead singer.

Oh I long for the day of 10K for me. Getting to 5K from 2K was so quick... and every post since then has been torture! I mean fun!

North Korea disarmament agreement reached
Rex Kickass replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
I think we're seeing the benefits of two things here. Actual diplomatic efforts from the US and a failed nuclear test from North Korea. -
Well, although my food intake needs some work, I did get the results of my bloodwork from the doctor back today. I had my cholesterol checked and was expecting it to be around 250, or at least slightly elevated given that I eat a fairly high fat diet and as of a month ago, a horrible diet. Cholesterol = 168 and balanced right. Everything else checks out good too. That makes me the healthiest fat guy you know.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 11, 2007 -> 01:27 AM) It would have been the other way around for me -- less time having fun, more focused on rank. I was sitting on 'Life' for nearly two years before completing Eagle several months shy of my 18th birthday. I have to imagine you've traveled to Owasippe a few times, no? Wood Lake Scout Reservation for me. By the time I was 14, I stopped getting merit badges at camp and started teaching them when I came up - I was volunteer staff when I went up. I think, I went five or six weeks the last three years I went as a "scout" and earned one merit badge. I was all up in the ecology shelter.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) on many levels Maybe not so much, if I had it to do over again - would have focused less on my rank and more on having fun in camp. My best friend in scouts never got past Star but could teach every merit badge at camp. Because he learned the stuff, not went after getting the badge.

Might take you up on that... the problem is finding a program that I can stick with without a trainer. I hate running like the plague. I like hiking, I can do cardio on machines at the gym, but after 30-40 minutes, I'm bored senseless.

Funny, mine went up 2!

I saw David Bowie with Nine Inch Nails in 1995. He generally doesn't play a lot of "hits" in concert. Hasn't really since 1990. The closest he came in the show I saw was instrumentals from "Low," a duet of "Scary Monsters" with Trent Reznor, and a trip-hop version of "The Man Who Sold The World" which was amazing. He is a good live show and has always been a good live performer.

Under the law, a valid reason would be "I don't want to."

I like his logo.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) So, last year, in a period of about 6 months, I managed to drop about 30 lbs or so, which is a decent drop when you're not tipping the scales. A few of my successful items: 1. Eat more fruit. As far as I can tell, this has been the biggest change for me. About a year ago I flipped from having a v-8 and a nutri-grain bar for lunch to having an apple & a banana or some mixture of those sorts of fruits (whatever was on sale). I immediately began noticing that I was losing weight, without adding in any real extra activity or cutting out anything else. Just replaced some other items in my meal with fruit, and bang. I've done this sometimes. A lot of times, after I work out - my dinner is apple slices and some peanut butter. I'm finding myself eating a lot more apples and bananas recently. I've been less successful with that as of late, but I've been really limiting my snacks too.... Trying to keep them to 150 calories or less... and with trying to keep meals under 800 calories for my dinner, that's been good too. I think I was eating about 3000-3500 calories a day on average before the new year started. I would but I'm afraid of flying.

So I guess I could use a little advice or something. This year, I decided to leave the ranks of the morbidly obese and just become grotesquely obese. I'm trying to lose 35 pounds by April 1. I've dropped the first 15, but have since spent 10 days, flatlined. This is starting to get frustrating. Admittedly, my diet hasn't been great, but I'm still watching what I eat generally.... So here's what I've done so far. After doing research, I found out that with my Basal Metabolism Rate, my body weight stays constant about about 3000 calories... a little less than that now. So I cut my caloric intake down to about 2000 calories a day. I'm usually a little under that. I've cut back on fat somewhat, and am eating more balanced protein and carbs. I have also given up meat. I work out 3-4 times a week. 95% cardio, and some limited stomach crunches. When it's not ridiculous cold, one of my gym sessions is replaced with a 4-7 mile hike. I've set myself a goal of 365 miles hiked this year. I'm around 20 so far, and - if I can wake up early enough tomorrow and it isn't ridiculously cold - will add 5-7 miles this weekend. Anybody have any tips that might help me get my weight loss moving again?

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) The whole article appears to have been poorly translated and interpreted. Also: now he's accused of "provoking" the shooting, not actually shooting. Latin Justice! So now we know where that Ken Nifong guy turned up! -
If one of the major justifications for marriage is procreation (and according to backers of most Marriage Amendments, it is), why isn't it already a requirement? Because people marry for love. And love isn't hetero-exclusive. This initiative is a bad idea to enact. But it's no worse an idea than any other initiative that limits marriage between two consenting adults.

I live in a third floor walk up apartment. We had a week of 100+ degree days. I couldn't sleep because I had no air conditioning.... I eventually gave up and bought a window unit, but only because I could not keep my indoor temperature under 95 degrees anymore. I lived in Big Rapids, MI during one of the two coldest weeks of that winter - in an apartment where the heat had not been turned on. It was 10 below outside, it was 40 or so inside. Neither situation was pleasant, but thanks to a warm sleeping bag I had, I was able to be much more rested in the colder weather. 100 degree days make me listless and lazy. I do things in the cold. I might not go hiking in -10 below weather, but I'm more likely to go hiking in 15 degree temperatures with wind than 90 degree humid days.

Government Frequent Flyer miles aren't nearly as cool to collect. She should just stick with United. She'll be platinum elite in six months.

Interesting point of view (global warming debate)
Rex Kickass replied to Jenksismyhero's topic in The Filibuster
So is everyone else here. Your point: people don't study whether climate change is purely natural. His point: people study that all the time, the evidence just doesn't point to it. That's kinda hitting your point on the head. -
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 12:36 AM) Aw, c'mon. Savage is freaking hilarious! Although, not on purpose. I am all for strict border security, but listening to him rant about illegal aliens and our porous border is entertainment at its finest. OK: fair enough. Savage is unintentionally funny. I remember he was attacking Bush for being a pussy ON September 11, 2001 by the way. (I worked at a talk station carrying him at the time) But Franken could actually be funny... and "Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot" actually was funny. His radio show was coma inducing.

Her whole story makes me sad.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 12:33 AM) OK, this whole mess gets confusing, but I believe that at this time, it was the Dems that wanted to have cloture, which means no more discussion and a vote. By filibustering, the Repubs were actually leaving the door open for further discussions and the Senators to bring them forward. All the filibuster did was stop cloture on the non-binding resolution. As for the removal of the filibuster idea, I also think that was intended to be removed for judicial appointments only or something like that, not removed from the process entirely. There was much debate whether or not the filibuster was intended to stop confirmation votes or not. Without going back and checking the old posts, if you didn't have a problem with the Dem side of the ailse using all the tactics at its disposal, including the filibuster, to block the Republican agenda, then you should just shut up about it now that the same tactics are being used against them. If you did express your concerns about it back then, I will applaud your consistency. Sometimes parliamentary tactics use the same tools for different purposes. A cloture vote can be used to prohibit a vote on a measure, but I do believe - if I understood what this cloture vote was for - can also be used to prohibit debate on a measure because it doesn't allow any specific resolution (which may be different than any kind of binding legislation) come to debate without it. I think. But this whole thing confuses me right now.

I think its because Prince, in concert is just as much a bandleader as he is a singer. He does songs he loves - not just songs he writes. Very James Brown actually.

Al Franken is a way better candidate than Michael Savage. Al Franken at least was funny once.

The idea is that supporters of gay marriage bans use as one of their primary arguments that gay couples can't reproduce and procreation is the main reason for government recognition of marriage. If that's true, why should couples who can't have children be allowed to marry - when same sex couples can't? The proposal, btw, would require a fertility test before marriage licenses would be issued.
