  1. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) I know Denny Hastert received major press in Virginia as I heard from an ex-Illinois buddy of mine who now resides out there after the bogus land-highway stuff came up who heard it on the news. You all need to stop thinking on such large levels here . There can be bias in the media without it being a 'conspiracy'. Liberal news writers tend to slant thier writing. They don't have some manual to go by when preparing these stories, that is just how they are. And yes, conservatives would be the same way in slanting their views in stories they write. Yes, this was a local story about a state level politician. That means it should have received MORE attention as to the political party. ESPECIALLY in light of what crime it was and the Foley incident preceeding it. Like it or not, that IS important today. What if his party only had a 1 person lead in controlling the house? Or if he is forced to resign, they lose a veto-proof majority? What if he chairs an important committee? I DID NOT say there was a left wing conspiracy to hide the party affiliation of the guy involved, but there had to ba a reason that it wasn't mentioned sooner than the last paragraph. We have gone over this before. When writing about politicians, the R or D almost always comes after the first mention of their name. When it doesn't, it stands out as either agenda based or supreme sloppiness. Either way, someone should be in trouble for the bad writing, and this guy should get everything coming to him. As someone in New Jersey finding out about a South Dakotan state senator's misdeeds - the party he follows matters little to me.
  2. He lists Dresden Dolls as safe but Panic at the Disco as gay?
  3. Ummm, hell yeah this should be investigated. Did these companies that Feinstein had "ins" with get no-bid contracts? Or did they go through the bidding process? That's my big question... Because if they had to go through a bidding process, there may not be much to investigate there. The story seems to show some smoke. If there's fire, I'm all good for removing her chairmanships and kicking her out of the Senate leadership.
  4. A wee bit of polemic from Ted Kennedy regarding the Senate filibuster on the minimum wage bill.
  5. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 26, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) REX! Yes? Naming a Boxer? How about "Lie-La-Lie"? As in "Lie-La-Lie, Lie-La-Lie-La-Lie-La-Lie, Lie-La Lie... and so on."
  6. This entire thread is extremely disturbing to me.
  7. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) All I know is that every night the TV is choked with meaningless basketball games-you would think someone would see pre-season baseball, at a time when people are indoors, would be a great alternative to that same stuff every night. Meaningless regular season basketball vs. meaningless exhibition baseball.
  8. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jan 26, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) Wow. Do people here really think Ozzie's that vulnerable? I don't think that Oz is that vulnerable... but I think he can be a tipping point both positively and negatively. I like him on the managerial team. I just don't like him in the Skipper hole so to speak. Didn't we go a full year at one point without a win in the five hole?
  9. Without any crazy blockbuster moves, I'm not sure what to think about the season. But then again, I'm not sure what to think about most things - so that's probably a positive. I get worried that we might be a little too focused on dismantling our pitching staff, but then again I've never been certain it was all there to begin with. To be honest with you, the change I'd anticipate most is having Ozzie get fired or demoted. Although he brought the spark that finally lit the fire under the collective ass of the championship team I always knew we had - his managing style seems to get in the way of continued success. The thing I dread the most about Sox 2007 is that poor choices by Ozzie will cost us the five or so games that make the difference between us getting in the postseason and finishing as an also ran again this year. And if that's the case again, a change will definitely need to be made.
  10. Lie, no. Delusion, possibly. Or, despite what the administration is telling us, they're actually negotiating with Iran a diplomatic solution.
  11. Apparently the rape is considered "graphically suggestive." I've read that you see a zipper unzip and then nothing is shot below the shoulder.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) Hill has a 19 point lead over the golden child Barack Obama http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,...1582130,00.html Polls in Jan 07 mean that more people know who Hillary is. I think the 100 million is a bit overestimated to be honest, and I think that there's plenty of money to go around.
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) No, I didn't. I said throw out NEGOTIATIONS. There's nothing to negotiate. It's not a contract dispute. Diplomacy and negotiation are the same thing. The sooner you accept it, the sooner you can begin to heal.... or something.
  14. Kap, since you've been so eager to throw out diplomacy as an option... exactly what else is the US able or prepared to do right now?
  15. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) That fact alone, is what BOTHERS me intensely. Team that WON 90 GAMES in 06, the World Series in 2005 and 14 90-win seasons since 1950 5 90-win seasons since 1990 _____________________________ = 12 games Team that LOST 90 GAMES in 06, Hasnt Won a World Series since Roosevelt was in office, only 3 90-win seasons since 1950 ZERO 90-win seasons since 1990 ______________________________ = 15 games Whats wrong with this picture? I'm sure when the White Sox are bought by a company that owns a national cable channel, they'll get 15 ST games on TV too. Tribune Company is looking to sell itself, showcasing the Cubs on their network is actually a damn good way to do it, the extra Cubs games have nothing to do with the White Sox. Since I get neither CSN Chicago OR WGN here in NJ, I will have the opportunity to see 12 fewer White Sox ST games.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 12:20 AM) But lets take a look at movies, and how they depict children and violence. There is a lot of slasher movies where you see the bad guy drive a knife into a victim, however how many times have you seen a graphic murder of a child in a movie. It really doesnt happen. Most times its either assumed, or you pull away so much you cant see the act happen. In this movie, you don't see the act happen either.
  17. I will say this about the movie. I haven't seen it. I'm also told that although the subject matter is broached, there is nothing graphic about the scene, just the topic....
  18. With everyone moving the primary dates up and the bulk of delegates being awarded by mid February, it now seems that getting the nomination might be harder for those with the fundraising advantage. Edwards has a shot, as long as he maintains his high profile. Both him and Richardson have significant netroots and die hard Dem support. Primaries are funny sometimes and I think that might make a huge difference down the road.
  19. For hardercore fans, baseball is so much more a passion I think. It almost has to be. It's easy to follow 16 Sundays in the fall, so much harder to follow, bleed, live and die by your team every day for 6+months. White Sox, no question. I don't have the same emotional attachment to any other team. Probably never will.
  20. I wasn't sure Leonardo was a boy when he was on Growing Pains.
  21. The last year has been a tough one for him, that's to be sure. But I wonder if he wouldn't have aged like that anyway - our Presidents tend to take office at an age where rapid aging happens fairly quickly, no? Isn't he 60 now?
