  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 1, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) But weren't Republicans the majority party the entire time Bush was in office? Guessing at the numbers, I assume much of Dubyas involves the war on terror. Bush and Clinton didn't have to deal with a 9/11 type attack. I dislike graphs and charts like this without understanding exactly what it repesents. Actually, its been about just about everything.
  2. There will be a bit of a backlash, but ultimately it will be a positive for the movement because it will empower tens of thousands who may never have participated politically before. Keep this in mind: This movement of protests started when a bill passed the house that would instantly felonize 12 million people and make it a felony to give a homeless immigrant a place to stay or a hot meal at a soup kitchen.
  3. I used to work in Big Rapids. It's so unnecessary, there are only 100 democrats in the whole county.
  4. I can't believe the transcript I read. Biggest balls in the country that Stephen Colbert has.

  6. Van Halen - not a Hair Band (although I prefer the term Cock Rock). Van Hagar - most definitely Power Ballad central. Quiet Riot anyone? And what about Night Ranger?
  7. I'm tempted to go to the Manhattan one to take pictures - but something tells me that I won't get to take off work tomorrow to do it.

  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) Girls who wrap sweaters around their waist to hide their butts are akin to guys who stuff socks down their pants to hide their truth. I put sweaters down my pants. What does that make me? Oh yeah, just wrong.
  10. Kap, I agree with you 100%. I just don't necessarily know that deportation is the answer to hold the people who have illegally crossed over accountable. There is nothing saying that they have to be sent back. And trying to send back 12 million people would be well, difficult to say the least. I'm all for fixing our broken immigration laws that punish the immigrant and ignores the people bringing them in when it should be punishing them both. Set up a from this day forward on proposition. You hire illegals: we shut you down. You come over illegally: You get sent back. I'm all for that kind of policy. But the question remains... what to do with the millions here? I don't support a blanket amnesty with no penalty. There should be SOME penalty for breaking the law. But there should also be some venue for these illegal residents to get the legal ability to stay here - be it applying for a green card and paying a fine of several hundred to a couple thousand dollars, or requiring 500 hours community service, or something else that allows these people to be put on a path to contribute to our society in a positive way. This is a situation where we can have our cake and eat it too. This is a situation where we can create laws that work and at the same time hold those who took advantage of a bad situation responsible. But both sides have to budge from their positions. Both the asshole minutemen and the asshole immigrants rights people.
  11. For everyone on this thread that seems to have an appreciation for the intolerance that other countries have - by all means feel free to become Mexican or French. Seriously, it seems the same people get pissed off about intolerance aimed at Americans in other countries but when it comes right down to it, they seem to be more than willing to have the same intolerance for immigrants here. And I just don't see how you can support and oppose the same thing depending on where you are physically located.

  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) Go to France and sing the anthem in English and see what response you get. Why is there so much f***ing sympathy for WILLING law breakers? I don't get it. Remember, I said it's not about coming here, it's about being LEGAL. There is an official language in France. Be pissed off that they're illegal. Don't be pissed off that they are singing the national anthem in Spanish. That's just stupid.
  14. The BBB report on Lincolnland Express
  15. There is no official language in the United States of America. Author's note: This post will follow every post complaining about a spanish rendition of our national anthem.
  16. I think this potential scandal - from what I've read about it - has the potential to be two or three watergates put together for the GOP. That is if anybody cares about election fraud that isn't stealing ballot boxes or stuffing them.
  17. QUOTE(samclemens @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) the US is not the UN. we contributed the most money. and i guarentee that if we took unilateral action, every lib in soxtalk (along with europe) would be screaming about a bush dictatorship, etc. what more can we do? the UN cannot make a decision without scratching their asses for 3 years. the entire organization is a joke. much of that is due to it's current leadership and the socialist tendacies of europe, in my opinion. Every time the US votes No on a security council resolution, it takes a unilateral action to stop any action that the UN makes.
  18. The Secretary of State (the office responsible for that) is running for Governor there too.
  19. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) What exactly are you implying here? It would have been intelligent of the United States to sell missle-defense systems to Iran to ensure a MAD scenario between themselves and Israel? A MAD scenario implies detente and stability for the region in which the regime is held in check. Once India AND Pakistan went nuclear, even though it seemed at times that war seemed inevitable over Kashmir, it never actually happened. Why is that? Partially because of the efforts of other neighbors to contain a dispute diplomatically. But mostly because the knowledge that striking first would enable a crippling if not fatal return strike for both the state and its leaders. So any kind of serious fighting was deterred. The same thing would happen between nuclear Iran and Israel. Israel would not strike first in Iran because they know that the return fire would be so great that it would be the end of Israel (not that I think Israel has this in mind). The same would apply for Iran. The Iranian president may be bats*** crazy, but ultimately he isn't gonna be the guy to push the button. That falls to the Imams who control the country - and they'd rather have control than die a martyr to a cause that won't remember them. And don't think they don't feel that way - or else they wouldn't have stopped fighting Iraq in 1989. I'm not saying that the US could only acheive detente by giving missile defense systems to Iran. I am saying that there are only one state or quasi-state actors in the national security realm that the US will not negotiate with: and that's Iran. Had we been willing to talk to them in 2002 or 2003, they may not have accelerated their nuke program. Probably because they see a US invasion as a legitimate threat. One which is only truly neutralized with a nuclear arsenal. It's the reason North Korea went nuclear. And it's the reason that Iran is going nuclear. If it was all about attacking Israel with dirty bombs - that would have already happened.
  20. I disagree. This will not set off a war and in fact, may go a long way to resetting stability of some sort in the region. Russia will not support Iran if it attacks Israel. The political and economic cost will be too great. However, by reestablishing a sphere of influence in the middle east - in a position contrary to the United States' position, it can help find regimes that might otherwise use violence to make their statement have a political valve in which to do it. This seems more along the lines of the first steps of a MAD type agenda that Russia has in mind. It's actually quite smart - and something that the US might have also accomplished down the road if they ever thought to start talking to Iran.
  21. My uncle installed a urinal in his house. When I was five, we visited my gramma in France. I didn't know that the bidet wasn't a urinal. I got in trouble when I asked my mom where the flushing thing was.
  22. Quite the contrary. This is in fact IN Russia's best interests on a security and influence level.
  23. This story would probably be true in any news story.
  24. Why the nickname Duke? Turns out Randy was appropriate after all! *rimshot*
