  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) What do you mean? We're still going to play 2 Saturday against Boston. And that will be a must win DH or at least a must-split DH. If we win one and Minnie wins one that would do us not a bit of good that day. I think the weather will not clear up in time Saturday for them to be able to do a doubleheader. Forecasts that I've seen call for steady rain through midday. If they did like a 3p/7p DH, it might work.
  2. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) Storm's probably only going to be a Cat2 by the time it gets there, so I don't think it will come to mandatory evacuations outside of extreme low-lying areas. Plus, as of this morning the eye was supposed to past well east of the cities, limiting their exposure to Tropical Storm force winds and a lot of rain. More so in Boston, less so in NYC.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) Did that happen today? Now that I think about it, it might have been pleading with the DSCC to do just that. Sorry, faulty memory today.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) So, last night, sitting AK Senator Lisa Murkowski conceded the Alaska Republican Primary to Palin-Endorsee Joe Miller, who appears to be similarly from the Palin/Angle caucus. His most recent interview, for example, he declared that Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional. Murkowski, of course, is a moderate Republican by no one's standards...she's the one who was pushing the "block the EPA from acting on CO2 emissions" bill earlier this year, but that wasn't enough for the AK Republicans. It's going to be interesting to see if the Dem can make it close in this race, my side wouldn't have had a shot if Murkowski had won. It should be a fairly interesting race actually, I believe the DSCC made a 500k ad buy in Alaska, that would be the equivalent of spending 8 million in a state like PA or NY.
  5. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) It's been a few years since I've been to Camden Yards, but it's not like the design is all that unique or anything. It's really those changes to the design that were Baltimore-specific (e.g., the warehouse) that made it distinctive. If you just took the basic design and plopped it down on the South Side I'm not sure it would be much different from what we have now. It seems a natural transition to me from Sky Dome to Camden Yards/Jake. We really were that in between stepping stone design. Wasn't the goal to emulate Kauffman stadium in KC?
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) I'll get you other links when I get home from work. He IS the suspect atm. I'll take your word for it. Just thought it was odd that the story immediately backpedaled on calling him a suspect.
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Don't forget firebombers. It was a Carnahan staffer that firebombed his office, not a 'evil Tea Bagger' like att the lefty rags in St. Louis said it was. http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/dailyrft/...on_campaign.php From your link. Being interviewed doesn't make you a suspect.
  8. In a recent poll of the Nevada senate race, two thirds of self-described Sharon Angle voters wish someone else had won the GOP nomination besides her.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) I love how Democrats always get to define what a Republican is, and what they need to do. Whatever. Sorta like how Republicans can call every Democrat socialist? One thing I can say about Republicans, they are experts at playing the victim.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) If it's that high then why don't people run on that platform alone? It's never a main talking point. It might, on occasion, be thrown in at the last minute for no other reason than to get the religious right out to the voting booth. You just made my point for me. The Presidential election in 2004 turned on about 110,000 voters in Ohio.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) ANYTHING to do with it? OR a CORE of the reason? No, i don't think that. I think it might have moved a single digit percent of the base, max. You're alleging it's basically a core belief of the party, which is just ridiculous. It might be one issue that's important to a small percent of people, but it's not a CORE issue. California just passed a ban on gay marriage. California is heavily liberal. Stop saying it's all republicans when it's clearly not all republicans. It's independents and even some liberals too. Notice that in states where a high turnout of Democratic voters who would support same sex marriage amendments but vote Democrat (high minority voting population) did not get an initiative movement in 2004.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Much like your view of the tea party, this is all just so wrong. A core of the election strategy? Really? First, it's not a 100% republican only issue. And second, it still only involves a minority of the party, not the majority. It might grab more headlines than others, but that doesn't make it a "core" to the conservative belief. If you don't think Gay Marriage amendments had anything to do with Bush winning reelection in 2004, you're sadly mistaken. Those amendments rally support from Christianists who may have otherwise stayed home, and frankly - I think the Ohio ballot, alone, question probably brought enough extremist voters out there to give Bush the edge in Ohio, and therefore reelection. These marriage amendments magically made it to the ballot on what was seen as a difficult reelection year in the following states. Michigan Ohio Mississippi Montana Oregon Arkansas Georgia Kentucky Louisiana North Dakota Oklahoma Utah Elections don't happen in a vacuum. This was a concerted effort, IMO.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Yep. So true. Absolutely true. All of them that are nominated and that organize. All racists haters. Yep. 100% accurate. No need to verify. You've spoken the truth on this one. GMAFB. Take the blinders off and open your eyes. No, GMAFB. Just answering hyperbole with hyperbole. But Tea Party activists are extremists.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) To be clear, I am not defending this particular guy, or saying I'd do this. Just saying that no decision to be part of any political party requires that you agree with every single tenet they have. What % of Catholics do you think agree with, and follow to the letter, every element of the dogma? How could you possibly justify saying I'm a member of XYZ Party if one of the central election themes of their party was "the XYZ party doesnt think you should have a right to marry or to be hired purely based on your merits?" This isn't about dogma. This is about belonging to a party that at its core centers a part of its election strategy on demonizing and attacking the rights of a community. There are plenty of people that don't have that problem - but gay people and the GOP do.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) Let me as you something. Do you agree with every single thing the Dems stand for? For that matter, does anyone agree with every single thing that the party they usually vote for stands for? Do politicians in those parties even agree 100% of the time? If his beliefs align with the GOP on 95% of things, then he's probably going to be a Republican, even though the Republican party has been so s***ty towards gay people. The worst part about Ken Mehlman is that he was one of the architects of the 2004 campaign which centered on fear of terror, and in some states, fear of gay marriage. Honestly, a gay person who is a Republican doesn't make sense to me. Independent? Sure. Democrat? Sure. But I fail to see any reason why a member of the GLBTI community would support a party which has fundamentally opposed equal rights for their community consistently over the last ten years. And continues to do so. It, frankly, blows me away that people could be so blind to their own interests.
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) yep, all tea party people are racist motherf***ers who hate all other races but RICH white people... and hate gays., and hate women, and hate (insert whatever strawman you want here). keep perpetuating that notion, and preaching the hate. Not all of them, just the ones you nominate for office. And the ones who run the "tea party" organizations.
  17. "Attention Hall" Imam Feisal of the proposed Burlington Coat Factory Community Center speaks in Bahrain and says truly radical things. Linky
  18. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) Do they also get to retire at 50 with full pension and paid medical, summers off while working, and days that end at 3 pm? Plus an untold amount of days off throughout the year for every holiday known to man? I understand your anaolgy, I just dont quite agree with it. I forgot to mention that in the story about the district wanting to increase principal pay, they also mentioned that they had just laid off about 20 teachers and cut the sports budgets. I don't know many teachers that get paid during the summer, actually. Most of them either get paid just for the 9 months they work, or have their checks prorated across 12 months.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) I thought the Supreme Court just weakened that after the trail began? I believe that doesn't apply as much with public employees as it does to private employers.
  20. Oh, and it is a crime to intend to sell the Senate seat as much as it is to actually sell the seat.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) My biggest complaint is that they've weasled their way into several of their current issues. The Health Care fight dragged on and the most popular parts of the bill were lost? That was a choice. The stimulus was too small and now we're back facing the 2nd dip? Choice. True but the fact that we've gotten anything at all done in Health Care is frankly, impressive. Nobody's done anything since LBJ. Nixon couldn't get it done, nor could Carter or Clinton. The stimulus bill did, in my opinion, keep things from being much worse than they currently are - and a second stimulus is probably needed, IMO. If you consider what has been accomplished in the first 19 months of this administration, the list of achievements is pretty long, especially when compared with other administrations, no matter what you argue the benefits or drawbacks have been.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) You know what that reminds me of? The people (including some here) who back in 2006 were saying that the economy was great and it was just the liberal media that didn't want to give credit to W for it. I'll give you that. But there are some actual victories here. In a few of these situations, the administration really has been making chicken salad out of chickens*** and some modest recognition of that is good to see every so often.
  23. Because we need some cheerleading now and again: Mr. Eugene Robinson. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...0081904771.html
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) A talk radio icon is complaining about not having her 1A rights. Read that again. A talk radio icon is complaining about not having her 1A rights. Awesome. I think its Sarah Palin that's whining the most loudly about this, not Dr. Laura.
