QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) Maybe for the US Senate, you dont go from Chief of Staff to President. Or he's eyeing DNC chair in 2013.

The vote total difference between Obama and McCain now exceeds that of Bush's victory over Dukakis in 1988 when Bush won roughly 440 electoral votes if I'm not mistaken.

Goldwater most definitely had that kind of thing going after losing in 64. Goldwater is why Reagan happened in 1980. And why 1994 happened for the GOP. Goldwater's campaign was about ideology.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) Technically that is backwards. The government legislated equality, and the people of California voted otherwise. Actually the court legislated equality. The legislature tried, and Arnold said no. However, state AG Jerry Brown said that the existing marriages will remain valid.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Well I did not know that, and that isn't right. I am for civil unions and them having true equal rights. I would just prefer gay couples be in front of a judge for their ceremony and have their relationship titled as a civil union and not a marriage. Beyond that, I think everything else should be the same in terms of rights in regards to gay and straight couples. Hopefully you are right there. I think that any civil union, marriage or otherwise should be fully equal regardless of it being same sex or multiple sex. That includes the name. We should get marriage if you get marriage. You should only get civil unions if that's what we get. Full and truly equal treatment under the law is what I believe should happen. If the government has to use a different name for marriage across the board, so be it. The churches can do what they want on this issue privately - they do not guard my rights, the US government does.

I think it might be Valerie Jarrett. SEIU are floating that trial balloon out right now.

Black Panthers + Night Sticks = Voter Intimidation

There were a couple gangbangers in front of the corner store yesterday too. I still got my diet coke. I think this story might be blown up quite a bit out of proportion. -
His first points of business will be: Lobbyist reform EFCA (which I think is an important step for working people to get the seat at the table they deserve) Lily Ledbetter Act Middle Class tax cut. Some (possibly symbolic) withdrawal from Iraq.

Nixon. Goldwater.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) I fail to see any difference between a civil union and a marriage. The two people involved after either event would have the same rights and privileges. On an emotional level is one couple less committed to the other than in the other couple? Are they any less in love? Are they any less a lifelong coupling? Currently is there a difference between a couple who gets married before a Judge and one who stands in front of Clergy? I have always failed to see a difference in the results of either event. If the results are the same and the relationship that each couple feels is the same, how can they be very different? I see a big difference. You cant file as married in a civil union on your federal tax returns. You have no federal rights as a couple in a civil union.

52%-46% now, which means a soild 6 point win. Most votes ever received for President: 1. Barack Obama (2008) 2. George W Bush (2004) 3. John Kerry (2004) 4. John McCain (2008) 5. Al Gore (2000) Overall turnout? Actually down this year from 2004. Obama increases on Bush's vote by over 400,000. McCain is three million short of Kerry's total, however. Obama's showing yesterday was the best percentage showing for a Democrat since 1964.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 04:12 AM) Just want to make a couple points... 1) Though I don't agree with much of Obama's economic policy, he is the 44th President of the United States of America and I have the utmost respect for the man. He seems to be a genuinely good guy. There are definitely some important things (e.g. education) that need to be addressed in our country and I hope he can lead us in the right direction. I just hope he has the balls to not let crazy-ass Pelosi and other wacky dems dictate the next 4 years with a democratic congress. If he doesn't agree with some of their radical bulls***, then he needs to say so, though it will be hard being in the same party and all... 2) I'm sorry, but if you cried when Obama was announced as the victor and you weren't on his immediate staff or a family member, that's just ridiculous. All those people crying looked like fools at the Obama rally. I would never have cried if McCain was elected. I understand being happy, but tears of joy are over the top. These events can be incredibly emotional. People that go to these events are hugely emotionally invested in what happens. I've been to victory parties that weren't and tears flow. I've been to victory parties that are and the same things happen. When your spending months, or in this case, two years on an emotional rollercoaster, the end of it, successful or otherwise, will bring a lot of people to tears.

Congressional Elections Results Thread

That is sad. We'll see a recount in Franken/Coleman too. Less than 700 votes separate them. Looks like Smith survives in Oregon. -

Ray of hope for the last thing worth following in my honest opinion. Prop 8 CNN exit poll, 52-48 for No. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) And Franken is a pile of s***, no offense. I can't forgive Coleman for the way he won in 2002. Just like I can't forgive Chambliss for the way he won in 2002. I'm not a big Al Franken fan but I hope for the best with him tonight. It's not looking great though, down 15K votes at the moment. Prop 8 will pass in Cali, I'm wagering, it's up 10 points right now. Still early though, but I'm guessing it passes. Which means legal marriages will be voided. That's very sad. -
It was like he wanted to win so bad, he wouldnt be the person that would win, because that person lost before. Same thing we saw with Al Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004. It seems that winners in these races don't hide from themselves.

It's entirely down to Wayne County in Indiana. Obama has a 17K margin in Indiana roughly. Wayne County has about 75K total population. McCain must win that county by more than 30 points to draw even. I think Obama takes Indiana, bringing him to 349 with Montana and North Carolina still in the balance. Obama leads in NC by about 15K votes as well. If he can hold on, he'll touch 364 votes, possibly as many as 368.

It's all about Prop 8 in Cali now. No is currently winning by about 31,000 votes. Here's to hoping that No can keep that lead. -
Obama up by 5 points in Montana.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 11:24 PM) Napolitano for Congress in 2010 You mean Senate. Obama wins Florida. Currently at 333. I think he'll wrap up Indiana and Nevada too for a total of 349.

Your service will not be forgotten. I appreciate your hard fought campaign and although I agree little with your policy, I respect your life in public service. Congratulations on getting this far, very few could have done it.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) When I voted last year my blue-hair said we were getting them for this election, but apparently I was misinformed. I don't care I kind of like the lever pulling contraption. It was actually very difficult to pull my lever for Obama.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 11:20 PM) What were they chanting We love John.

This is the John McCain that could have actually won. Nice sentiments. Hard fought battle for Senator McCain. There are people in the street in my neighborhood cheering. I kinda feel like crying, because this was amazing.
-
I think we're gonna see Obama settle around 349 votes.
