You can score on Podsednik's arm with a pop out to short.

Another junkballer we're making look like Cy Young. The Yankees are even helping us out tonight, we need to make due.

Anybody head to Tucson for training?
Thought about it, because I am within driving distance. I'm still leaning toward taking a trip to Seattle, New York, or Boston during the regular season for their series there.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
I have no problem with them getting innings in a blowout because that's about all they can be trusted with these days. Run differentials don't mean a damn thing. But seriously, nine runs? We can't keep Tampa down for less than nine runs?!

Dye deserves 2006 AL MVP Award
I would like to see the trend of giving the MVP to a position player be upheld. Which is more valuable--a guy who plays in the field or a guy who is a glorified pinch-hitter? It's really enough that David Ortiz gets to start the All-Star Game at a position he plays 15 times a season over a glut of talented guys who play it every day. However, if you slice it that Ortiz has to shoulder a bigger load at the plate for Boston than Jermaine does for the White Sox, that does not take into account the runs JD saves with his glove. He's made some great catches although I'm befuddled how a plus-arm like his doesn't get a whole lot of guys out. Be that as it may, I still wouldn't want Boston's lineup, that punk-ass Manny Ramirez, that media moth Curt Schilling, or that overblown Josh Beckett. If JD doesn't win it, I'd be happy for Morneau if he did. And Jeter's putting up a great year. As long as Ortiz doesn't win it.

No Surprise: Dye = AL Player of the Week
"Jermaine Dye of the Chicago White Sox named Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week" God, that's a mouthful. But I suppose that word 'presents' sells more checking accounts and home loans than just calling Jermaine Dye the Bank of America Player of the Week. How I love corporate America...

Since July 3rd
It's been said on The Score post-game shows at least once in the past week, but it bears repeating: starting Mackowiak in CF makes us worse at two things: CF and PH. It's completely and totally antithetical to the pitching + defense strategy that won us a title last year, sweetened up with 200 home runs. If you think Brian Anderson is an offensive liability he is an even bigger PH liability.

Perspective - the year after a playoff appearance is always a dissapoi
QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 06:07 AM) But the other side to that is that Braves fans got so spoiled that they stopped filling the park for first-round playoff games. And they s*** on Braves management for "only" winning one World Series in the 14 years that they made the postseason every year. My point is that it's unrealistic to expect a team to get to the World Series in consecutive years, and while I hope like hell that the Sox get there, I haven't expected it at any time. Well, with a pitching staff anchored by John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, and Greg Maddux locked up for that many years, a luminary baseball mind like Bobby Cox, and a rich owner like Ted Turner and you can only bring home one Comissioner's Trophy and four NL pennants? Underachieving isn't all that far-fetched. The Yankees, OTOH, bought themselves into the playoffs for twelve consecutive seasons, six AL pennants, and four World Series. They hemorrhage amounts of cash that would submarine half the NL Central and emerge virtually unscathed. That's what you get for selling cable TV to the largest media market in the US.

Would you unconditionally support this team if it led to a title every
I'm in a position now as a Sox lifer that I want to savor every drop of a winning team while I have the opportunity, which is why a lot of the Sox play this year has made me sick. I feel that as a White Sox fan I've pulled for them in the shadow of another team in town that isn't very good and seemingly uninterested in keeping a winning team together, and at the height of our success last season I resent that we still can not get out from an ever-longer and darker shadow of East Coast media bias. I forget who said it but it's basically true that an MLB team will win 60, lose 60 and the season is decided in the remaining 42. The best teams usually can only figure about 100 wins and the worst teams usually can figure about 100 losses with some exceptions. A lot of the Sox play this season has made me sick because they have not only been beat when they weren't the best team on the field on that given day but they cough up games they could and should win. This most recent series versus Minnesota was a perfect example. We didn't get beat those two games--we lost. We were out-gritted by a grossly underrated manager in Ron Gardenhire and could not shut the door on a band of no-name overachievers. We've forgotten how to do the things that won us a title last year and our pitchers have woefully underperformed. As a fan you want the best effort, and I don't think I've seen it consistently all season. I was raised a White Sox fan. I will stay a White Sox fan.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
I was working all day today and missed the game, but just saw the condensed version on MLB.tv. Did mine eyes deceive me or did Scott Podsednik hit the cutoff man for an outfield assist?!? The wonders never cease.

My parents didn't take a months-old infant to see the Yankees. Or Cubs. Or Red Sox. No, they took me to see the South Side Hit Men. The Summer I was born (or so says the folklore.) It was a good enough night to be able to forget what Gardenhire made us look like.

He's right. And I'm buying up all the twelves of High Life whenever they come up at $5.99 because it's going to be a long hot-stove session and the Valley gets cold in the winter.

Sox fall to Twins again
I want Thornton to have the ball this game at the top of the sixth, lefty vs. righty be damned. And I want Jenks up in the 9th, because he has the best chance of holding the lead. Those two moves and I think we're looking at a winner tonight.
