QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) Getting Ichiro would be fantastic but I doubt it'd happen so I'm not even going to think about it. Kenny asked Seattle last off-season about Ichiro, who wasn't happy and wanted to play for a win-now team. At the time, they said they had no interest in trading their most popular player. I doubt they have changed their tune. It would be fantastic with him and his countryman Iguchi going one-two, though.

Zito isn't coming to the South Side for more than a series. Boras. End of story.

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) "So you're telling me there's a chance!" More like "...so we back-tracked a tad!" "...a TAD?!?"

Nobody's untouchable, but the only way I'd let Joe go has been said, an insane package, back issues, or Boras issues. By 'insane', a package involving Carl Crawford or a player of similar impact would be grounds for consideration.

Chicago Style: Crumbled Sausage from Uno/Due, Gino's East, Lou Malnati's, in that order. The Uno's franchise isn't quite the same, but it's not an aberration, and is pretty much the only thing that will do for Chicago-style out here. I've tried Taste Chicago in Burbank, and they call theirs "authentic Chicago style" but it's made in square pans with a white flour crust, open and shut case. BJ's says the same thing but, just...no. Chicago-style is not a braided white-flour crust, it's cornmeal, and the toppings are wrong. I'm a lot less picky on thin crust in the NY style. As this is a far more prevalent style it's statistically a lot easier to find good pizza this way. I actually think it's rather ridiculous for New Yorkers to trump up their slices when they all taste the same, although I did have a pretty good pizza someplace on Figueroa after the game on Wednesday, I think it was Aurelio's but I can't be sure. What I really love, besides Chicago-style is Neapolitan-style pizza, with a cracker-like thin crust. I've been reading about how to make a crust mix adaptable to a consumer-grade oven that garners these results but haven't tried it yet. Usually it involves 800º of wood-fired heat, which simply isn't possible if you don't live at a pizzeria. I worked at California Pizza Kitchen going on two years and never tired of the Sicilian there. Neapolitan crust with spicy marinara, mozzarella, fontina, capicola, julienned salami, and sweet crumbled sausage. Downside is that quality is hit-or-miss depending on who is making it and how full the oven is. If it's made right, all crispy and light, it's near-perfect, but if it's not it's overpriced for middle of the pack.

Damn. I thought I was going to see a rarity today at Angel Stadium. Four outs away. I'll take the W.

I like Figgins more than Podsednik. Better defense makes him more valuable, and seems to do the little things with more consistency and success. I wouldn't mind seeing him in silver and black come March, but not at that asking price.

QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) I disagree w/ some of the negativity. I know we need to "turn it on", but did you all expect to sweep Anaheim @ Anaheim? I know I didn't. If we win 2/3 from Ana and Oak, I'm fine w/ that. It may take a sweep of Detroit, but I think that is possible. We did it about five months ago. Ozzie is not putting our guys in a position to succeed. For example, he leaves Mackowiak in when he's been struggling instead of going for Ross Gload, our hottest PH right now, when Anderson was coming in the next inning and PK was already scratched. I thought Gload was the man with the best chance to succeed in that situation. And and they're not getting it done. Last night is another game where we were not only out-managed and out-maneuvered, but also mention out-played.
-
Why was Gload on the bench if he and Anderson were going into the game anyway? The guy I want up is NOT Mackowiak, it's Gload, especially with how well he's been swinging the bat in those sorts of situations. He stroked a double his next AB. He does it in that AB, we're three outs from a W. It's Ozzie's fault, NOT Jerry Owens.

Let's go Oakland, Let's go Texas.

If Podsednik is leading off and Anderson isn't in, I'm going to ask for my money back. -

I'll be there Tuesday and Wednesday with my brother. My attendance record at Angel Stadium stands at 4-0. -
Butterfinger gives him a crappy grip on his forkball.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) I wouldn't be comparing Sweeney to the Almighty God, but he did look good last night. Hopefully he will keep it up today if he is in the lineup, which i heard he was but i'm not 100% sure he will be.

Everyone's been looking at us to rip off a winning streak all season long. Our guys are believing the hype too much, Ozzie is making piss-poor decisions and has been all season long, and our starting pitching has underachieved. If anything, Ozzie manages us out of the playoffs.

Brother's in town from back home. Sitting in the 520s for 9/12, planning on just getting tix at the box office for 9/13 matinee, maybe with some girls we know who are recent transplants. Who else is going? Meetup before, during, after?

We haven't seen all of Brandon McCarthy yet. Like Mackowiak playing in center field, he has been misused all season long, with long and inconsistent gaps between appearances. He can't be compared to Liriano or Papelbon or Weaver yet, and the reason for that is they have been put into their accustomed roles and succeeded. Papelbon is a converted starter but has been consistently used. These pitchers have been set up for success. McCarthy has not. As far as Ozzie Guillen is concerned, McCarthy doesn't have a role on this team and shouldn't because he's 'not Cy Young.' He is not going to achieve what we all think he is capable of until he does.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) I've said it a 1000 times, the Vazquez trade will be KW's worst ever. He can't do much worse. A lot of people point to Vazquez's record, but his record is crap considering he has had the lead in all but 2 starts, and sometimes he had the lead 3 times in the same game. ^^^^^ If Ozzie weren't golfing buddies with this useless sap, there would be no way Kenny Williams would have spent two years in pursuit of him. It wasn't even like he came at a fixer-upper price. He's got the best pure stuff, but that's what they said about Garland for years while he struggled. Vag-quez tilts too easily to get that kind of paycheck. So great, let's sign an overpriced career .500 pitcher who gives up a lot of home runs to pitch at a slugger's playground. This deal must have been done during 'take your kid to work day' or something.

What Hath God Wraught by the Soledad Brothers. I just envision a fat man jogging when I hear that synchronicity of a draw on a harmonica and drum beating. Splice in "I want the big boy" somewhere in there, instant gold.

Great, Bobby.

He's been our most consistent guy thus far, and his win total is high but so is his ERA. Then again, it hasn't been a good year for ERA in the American League.
-
That's what I thought.
