He better say working too hard.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) If I recall correctly, the Sox gave it a good shot. I believe Danks father was quoted as saying that the Sox tried everything they could, but their son was dead set on going to Texas. He said that the Sox were great and they held high regard for the organization and would have no problem if the Sox were to draft him again when he becomes eligible again. Can't recall where I read that, but I couldn't dream stuff like that up, so it had to be somewhere. That is what I remember Rex, I do not recall us being 'close' at any time of swaying them, but they did have real good things to say about Sox org and vice-versa. Too bad we did not win WS prior to the draft.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) Hopefully everything is alright with Valido. It could be the SOx just wanted to have him work on somethings and than get Lopez in there (but I don't think it works that way). If I were to guess, maybe a family issue came up and he ended his season just to take care of that? Total guess. I assume he isn't hurt, otherwise I think one of us would have heard something. Not good, on article on Sox Web Page about Malone, this was in there. Valido could be a bigger problem than I had thought. SS Robert Valido -- Valido was pulled from the team for personal reasons on Nov. 1. Infielder Pedro Lopez, who spent most of the 2005 season at Double-A Birmingham, was named as his replacement.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 05:33 AM) Hadn't seen Valido in a game in a week and was starting to wonder. This really raises a question. It certainly does
-
Anyone know? Did Valido get hurt, in trouble or just pulled cause he showed enuf already and they wanted to give him some rest.
-
Young at .292 now. Went 2-2 today, with 2 walks, 1 HBP, his first homer and he also threw out a runner at 3B.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) He was rated the 4th best player in the Southern League, which was rated the best by Baseball America. McCarthy and Anderson were 8 and 9 in the IL, which ranked as 4 stars out of 5 in talent. Any others in SL?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I'm going to just say one short thing in here. Sox are a top 8 organization, imo. Problem is a lot of it is at lower levels and they may not receieve that grade for another year. However, they got a lot on the horizon. Not at lower levels, Kanny is not real talented, and the two below are less talented. Talent at upper half, sure not AAA, but heavy in AA and High A.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) You're going to see Owens possibly accounted for there, too. You don't produce like that after a jump from Low A to Double A and not catch quite a few eyes doing so... Fields will not be rated. Rogo likely bypassed as well. Young, Sweeney, Owens with either Haig (if not in the Carolina League list) or Tracey as your best bets to have a pitcher listed, although I think none will be... I would think Jenks gets some votes.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 01:47 AM) He's also repeating AA. The only thing he does exceptionally well is use his speed. If he has a future at all in the major leagues, it's going to be as a Utility infielder. He's not going to earn a starting job from anyone anytime before MLB expands to include Las Vegas. He is also on DL for rest of year I thought I read. Has not played in a while.

QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 12:53 AM) Chris Young w/ 2 BB, SB, R. BMac with 1 H, 5K's through 5. EDIT Chris Young w/ 3 BB, SB, 2 R. BMach with 3 H, 7K's, through 7. How about 4 walks and a SB and 3 runs scored.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:31 AM) He's got to keep hitting at higher levels to be considered anything more than a future 4th outfielder. Mike Spidale had a great year for B-Ham last season, and now he's back down with the Hogs in high A. Not saying that's going to happen to Owens, but Jerry's gonna need to hit well in Charlotte. Cannot compare Owens to Spidale, Owens is the better player easily, he is hitting like a madman at AA, only one level higher to hit at, and he, like Young, skipped High A ball.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) I'm starting to wonder if we'll even see Lummy this year. I'm trying to get an update on his status cause Lumsden is a guy that has some of the best stuff of any pitcher in the system. I think him and Sean Tracey have the best arms (from the left and right side) in the organization. We'll just have to see what happens. Lummy is also a very heady pitcher and has extroardinary mound presence. Heck with the best arms stuff, I want the best pitcher. Wood has a great arm, Buehrle is a great pitcher, who do you want? Give me Haigwood over a guy like Lumsden 8 times out of 10.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) Haigwood's having a very B-Mac like 2004, where he's jumped to a higher level and just gotten better. Hopefully he can stay away from the injuries that caused him to miss a lot of action so far in his minor league career. Would I call him our best pitching prospect though? He'd have to keep pitching the way he has probably for the rest of the season, but I think after McCarthy, people are probably going to rate Gio a little higher (even though he's struggled with his ERA at Winston - Salem). But his injury was not arm related, which is good, it was a knee injury that kept him out that entire year.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) Wait, how is Haigwood throwing a 1-7 curve being a lefty? You call it while looking from behind the catcher, not the pitcher.
-
Rex had a real good report on Haigwood his last start that he lost to James. He liked him better than James due to his composure and approach on the mound. Sorry to speak for ya Rex, but seems I recall that from our other board.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) Haha! My brother f***ing works for the Durham Bulls, and has seen every home game Seddon has pitched. This superstar Seddon has a 6.10 ERA this season, with a WHIP over 1.67. He K's about 6 guys per 9 innings. My brother said that he's far and away the worst Bulls starter. No offense to Rex, who knows his stuff....but Seddon isn't a good pitcher. Ok Sure.
-
QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 04:17 AM) All I'm saying is his brother was probably right when he said that Borchard sucked on MONDAY Then your brother does NOT know pitching, cause Seddon is the pitcher who shut Charlotte down on Monday, Rex got done earlier this week telling me how much he likes Seddon.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Jesus, what is going on with the Charlotte offense? They are anemic right now. They ran into some tough pitching, Baker for Twins AAA team 1 hit them and shut them down last week, Liriano beat them twice, both are expected to start for Twins later this season when they dump Mays and Lohse. Last night was a kid with bad ERA, but Rex told me he was very, very good in AA last year, maybe he has been hurt this year.

Which Sox Prospects do you Think Are Untouchable
MnSoxFan replied to White Sox Josh's topic in FutureSox Board
2 for me Young and Valido (.290+, 35-39 stealing, great D at a key position) with Anderson and Sweeney close behind -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) Rookie leagues are iffy. Might want to swith Lisk and Lucy. Maybe Getz and Berry too.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) Midseason Top 20 Prospects: 20-11 A midseason rankings of White Sox prospects By FutureSox Staff The minor league season is in the 2nd half of play and all of the all-star games have taken place. With over half the season done FutureSox.com has taken a look at what the top prospects in the system have done and come up with new prospect rankings. We have decided to present these rankings in a different way than normal. Instead of the standard writeups on each player talking about their history and recent performance we have decided to give numerical ratings...More I would have to disagree with Valido where you have him, I am not sure he and Young are not the 2 prospects we need to make sure we hold onto. I would have him in top 5 for sure, and likely #2 behind Young at this time, at least in terms of value.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) Clayton Richard was a top-couple round talent out of Indiana HS and was a top QB recruit for Michigan. After not pitching for 2 years, he joined the baseball team after last football season as was so dominant he was their co-closer. Allen was an extremely raw HS kid out of Alabama who had a sweet swing, but not much experience or high-level coaching. BIG, yet runs like a deer. He was very solid at 1st base in Bristol last year and I am pretty surprised at the number of errors he's put up so far. Had a good enough arm to be an average RF-arm. Kid is going to take some time. They are taking a very similar path with him as they did with Chris Young. Allen is from Texas, no?
