Hankins play this season at 3B probably made it easier to let Hummel go too. I see Hankins is going to catch in Fall league, interesting.
-
Hummel, he can play with us til its official. Cincy probably wants him to get playing time too.
-
HSC, I know you are no KW fan, but I think he has made the moves to help us compete, if we get in playoffs we have a solid 1-2-3 rotation and could beat anyone, and I know we have traded some kids, but nothing that we cannot replace. I think KW has done a solid job, up to JR to sign them now after the season, I think we can be good for some time. Pitching wins and we have it. Unfortunately we play 25 games vs teams over .500 the rest of way and Minny only has 9 and KC less than that.
-
Jugger, just because a guy plays 30 games at SS in AAA does not mean he can play SS in the majors, he does not have the range for SS or 2B, unless you want to sacrifice defense, I do not, I like the D our middle infield is playing now.
-
Jugger, he is not a SS or 2B prospect, 3B is only position he will play everyday in the pros if you do not want to sacrifice defense.
-
Yofu with bad game, W-S lost despite nice start by Phillips, Hummel and Lamura hammered in extra innings. Kanny lost with Deininger getting blasted, his first bad start in a while. Great Falls lost 7-4, Moviel lost I think, Bristol lost too, homer for Sweeney, and Orionny Lopez got hit again to lose.
-
Excellent point, I agree.
-
I would like to see Brooks and Hodges besides two already mentioned. I think those 4 were deemed unsignable, so if we get any of them I would feel good.
-
Was overmatched in the majors.
-
No way Burke is better defender than Rivera. Burke is not a full time catcher, just fills in some. My buddy here at work is a Detroit fan, and tho Rivera hit real well one year in AA, he was considered a good defender and not as good with bat in his time with Tigers. Both can hit, but Rivera better defensively.
-
I expected to see better stuff from him in Tucson, did not see a good breaking ball or anything hard. Seems like DBacks hit him a bit. But hard to argue with those impressive numbers, he has to be hard to hit for the stats he has put up.

Having fun Rex, this bmr fellow must be a real pain in the ass for ya. I am with Rex and Cerbaho, I like Kip Wells and would really enjoy him still being with the Sox. I am not ready to put all my cards behind Cotts, but Rex is a good judge of talent bmr, you are just trying to get Rex riled up, glad he is man enough to not let you get him in that mode.

We will bring back the big ones, and some big fish too. :-)

We see a moose once in while when driving. The reason we camp on an island out in middle of lake is due to bears. Before I joined up with this group 15 years ago, they had a bear rip thru their tent when they were on the lake (someone had candy in a bag in the tent). So we now stay on an island instead of mainland. Helps with mosquitos too, since more of a breeze. Bears can swim, have seen that, but so far never had one come out to our island.
-
Sorry Cerbaho, had not been in that thread and seen it.

We always go up 2nd or 3rd week of August, never been too cold for us yet, decent sleeping bags and tents help. But last year it rained continually and we left a day early due to tired of the slop. Seems to always be cloudy but yet it can get in 80s at times. Will be interesting to see if it has been wet or dry up there, dry could mean fire ban. We driver 14-15 hours from Rochester, and the lake is about 150 miles NW of Thunder Bay, last 50 miles is logging road. So we are up there a bit. 12 guys, 6 boats. Lots of walleye, tho not many over 5 pounds. Lots of big Northern Pike, last year we caught almost 10 over 13 pounds, 19 1/2 being the largest.
-
Hummel has a good enough arm to play SS or 3B, just not the range for SS in my honest opinion.
-
Good reply :-) Sorry I will miss meeting you guys, I have a camping/fishing trip in Ontario or I would have come down from the great north.

Adkins, Pacheco, Purvis ,Malone&Miller (DH), McCarthy, Deaza going today

I think Hummel will be in the running to beat out Crede. My guess is he is as good a fielder, he takes more walks, he seems to have better command of the hitting zone, he runs better, but he may not have the power although that seems to be arriving now. He looked decent at 3B in spring, moreso than 2B or SS.

From BA Good Play, Mate CHICAGO—Spring training was difficult for Thomas Brice. The world cup of cricket was being played, and Brice couldn’t find a word about it in the Arizona newspapers. “It’s a big event in the world but there was no coverage here,” Brice said. “Nothing in the papers or on television, not even ESPN. But I’d go back to the hotel and get on the Internet.” Brice, a 21-year-old outfielder from Woodville, Australia, has a career that is shaping up nicely. A cricket player until his teens, he took quickly to baseball and eventually decided to try to become a professional. He left his home in the spring of 2001 to attend Faulkner State (Ala.) Community College and showed enough potential for the White Sox to select him in the 24th round of the 2002 draft. He immediately helped Rookie-level Bristol to an Appalachian League title, keeping his batting average at .327 or better all season. In his first full year as a pro, Brice is holding his own at low Class A Kannapolis. After a slow start, he had raised his average to .282 in 280 at-bats, though he had just 19 extra-base hits. “He’s a natural hitter,” farm director Bob Fontaine said. “He’s got that classic lefthanded swing. You always kind of hate to compare players, but the guy all our people talk about is John Olerud.” Not surprisingly, Brice is a good low-ball hitter. He says in that way baseball resembles cricket, in which the batsman’s job is to keep the ball from one-hopping into the wicket. Brice hasn’t hit a home run yet this year, but the White Sox look at his build (6-foot-5, 210 pounds) and believe he could eventually hit 10-20 homers a year. Brice has a plus arm suited for right field. He pitched for Australian junior national teams before a series of arm injuries sidelined him. He had arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder, a stress fracture in his elbow and then broke his wrist but has somehow regained his arm strength. “I was really about to quit,” Brice said. “I thought my baseball career was over.” CHI-LITES • Some in the organization would like to see Japanese righthander Tetsu Yofu, 29, get at least a brief look in September because they say he’ll be lost in the Rule 5 draft if he’s not on the 40-man roster. He was 7-6, 3.42 for Double-A Birmingham. • Second-round pick Ryan Sweeney began his pro career hitting .290 through 31 at-bats with Bristol.
