  1. Because Gio's change is usually so good that it doesn't matter. Hitters see fastball. They just can't pick it up. That's why this start is so confusing.
  2. Possibly, but that still doesn't explain how one of the most deceptive pitches in all of baseball got identified.
  3. https://www.mlb.com/video/giolito-s-seven-plus-scoreless Look at how Cleveland hitters reacted to his change. He made Jose Ramirez look like an idiot. Tell me how Boston could pick that up?
  4. Not true. Giolito throws meatball changeups every game and hitters still whiff on it. He throws changeups in the heart of the plate with 2 strikes and hitters usually have no chance.
  5. No doubt, but Gio isn't afraid to throw his change in the middle of the plate because hitters have never been able to pick it up.......the bigger question is how Boston did just that through their entire lineup. Dalbec fouled off a bunch of them in good locations........how?
  6. How do they identify the difference? It's nearly impossible to tell. That's what's suspicious. Gio's change is an 80 grade pitch because hitters can't pick it up......and all of the sudden every Boston hitter can? WTF?
  7. Yes. He was up in the count and threw them in the zone and they got destroyed. They were watching fastballs high in the zone. How did they tell the difference? Nobody has before.
  8. Exactly. Hitters always look foolish on Gio's change because it's impossible to tell the difference between his fastball and change. How was Boston able to do it?
  9. I'm with you. It's not like his fastball command has ever been great. However, his change has been impossible for hitters to identify until now. He tunnels it wonderfully. That is more suspicious than anything. How are they picking it up?
  10. Yep. He was ahead 0-2 or 1-2 on the first 3-4 batters and they waited for a change in the zone and hit it. Hernandez was down 0-2 to open the game with two fastballs, Gio threw a change that was middle-low and had the whole plate and he hit it out of the park.
  11. BTW, Giolito usually isn't great with the fastball command anyway, so this could be a new approach teams are starting to take against him. If so, yikes. I'll be watching his next few starts closely.
  12. Anyone check to see if there were any trash cans? I've never seen anyone pick up Gio's change like that before(since the delivery adjustment)
  13. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?date=4/19/2021&gamePk=634445&chartType=pitch&legendType=pitchName&playerType=pitcher&inning=&count=&pitchHand=&batSide=&descFilter=&ptFilter=&resultFilter=&hf=pitchVelocity#634445 Giolito's spin rate is actually UP this year from years past.
  14. I know Moncada is still flirting with Mendoza on the season but I think he's about to get going soon too. You know he's locked when he takes pitches like he did today. Both guys are a little light on the XBH so far this year.
  15. Harold, you think that it's part of Crochet's development plan that they're having him dial back to where he'd be as a starter, right?
  16. WTF is TLR doing with Crochet? I completely disagree with how he's being used this year.
  17. I just looked up Cease's info and he has 10+ inches of carry this year so far. Good news.
  18. This is part of his development. They want him to work on getting outs at the MLB level at the velocity he will sit as a starter. I'm convinced he still has 102 and they're doing this on purpose.
