  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) The last place the Cubs want to be is where they are with Milton Bradley right now. They didn't throw him under the bus. He did it to himself. Again. Its no surprise he did because it isn't the first or second or third time its happened. He's a malcontent. A cancer. A pain in the ass. If the White Sox were to acquire him, I would think KW has lost his mind. So would I. I dont want that turd anywhere near the Sox, and I dont care what the stats say. Common sense says every point you bring up is right on the money, and no thanks to that pain in the ass idiot.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 02:05 AM) I can't believe anybody would even joke about signing Bonds. How old do you want to get?? How much slower do you want the team to get? He's a gigantic turd and has not been in baseball a while for good reason. Have you studied Bonds' story? He is one gigantic prick, he is old, slow, and hopefully out of baseball forever. Absolutely correct, and I would add, not hypocritical of anyone who wants his sorry behind out of the game! Good riddance !
  3. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) There is a time and place for everything. Obviously I would dress for the occasion. But, I could still picture myself at the age of 75, at a sports bar wearing my old beaten Thomas Jersey. Aye to that, mine wouldnt necessarily be a Thomas jersey, but it'd be a Sox jersey of some sort.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:07 AM) SURPRISE! Both are Sox fans. Both are also knuckleheads..(Bernstein and Holmes)
  5. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) i find it funny that everyone believes "The Sox need Konerko healthy and performing to be competitive this year" we've done fine for 2/3 of the season without him, I don't see anything changing putting Swish at 1st and BA in CF, this helps our defense out tremendously and limits the odds of us beating ourselves also, off-topic, Ozzie needs to be more proactive with this pitching staff, if you see the sox with a commanding lead like yesterday and all of the sudden the wheels start coming off , pull him out and let the guys in the pen handle the rest of the game edit: listening to the score, these guys are so unbelievably pro-Cubbies anti-Sox (Especially Bernstein and Holmes, to the point of being hilarious), it's hard to listen. The twins are flawed in as many areas as the Sox are, they're very similar to the Texas Rangers on the road, something about the Metrodome changes the complexion of that team, just as it changes the Sox complexion when they play at home. the Score guys give up so easily when the Sox start playing poorly, it's laughable. the way they approach the subject, is as if the Sox are 8 games out and it's unrealistic to expect the Sox to compete for the Division or WC i seriously cannot take 90% of that station seriously anymore. were they this bad in 2005 when the Sox were losing their lead in the second half? i didn't start listening to the score until 2007 They didnt have the broadcasting rights til 06, but I agree with you on the 'pro-cub' nonsense they spout. With few exceptions, they lean toward the cubs. Cant stand Boers or Bernstein, and Holmes aims too much for every controversial topic he can think of for me to listen any length of time to him.
  6. I seem to recall that Thigpen never was the same after beaning Terry steinbach of the A's. Steinbach was in the hospital under observation for several days. Bobby just didn't have his heart in it after that.
  7. QUOTE (lukeman89 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) i don't find it irritating at all. every game is important and he knows that. you know hes giving you 100% every time he goes out and he takes nothing for granted. do you people understand what "fired up" means? K-Rod is seriously something special because he takes EVERY game as serious as game 7 of the world series, and he gets the job done more consistently and frequently than any other closer in baseball. IIRC, Dotel was yellin and screamin last night after he struck out shoppach. I'd rather have him acting like that then acting like he did against the cubs. wouldn't you? NO
  8. I would think he'd get one heck of a welcome. Getting him re-involved with the organization is long overdue. His poor treatment at his career's end and letting Ventura walk away are 2 of the things which darn near made me give up on following the Sox, there's just no reason to treat people like that. Dont know if its Brooks Boyer, KW, or a combination of them and someone else in the organization, but they really pay alot more attention to involving former players now - Well done !
  9. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 19, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Don't need to post your specific location in a post or anything, but I was just curious how many Sox fans here aren't actually IN Chicago. For starters, I'm down here in the Peoria area. Which really sucks, because 95%+ of the baseball fans down here, aren't even really true baseball fans, they just root for the "Cubbies" because it's the cool thing to do. Or they're straggler Cardinal fans. Even our local sports shops rarely carry Sox gear other than Caps (Jersey's are hard to find, it's usually Cubs/Cards garbage) Jacksonville here-same deal with 95% being Cardinal-Cubs fans, but a majority are Cardinal fans, which makes them allies in my book. Local paper doesnt have any Sox writeup most days, and Tribune just quit delivering papers to vending machines here. BIG improvement last couple of years was a local radio station picking up Sox games, and I got Dish which does have Comcast included. This area always has been heavy on Cardinal/Cub coverage, but I think the Sox dont target the area enough in public relations.
  10. Didnt see this incident as it happened, but have seen Cuzzi in similar situations where Ozzie wasnt anywhere near the premises, go after a manager who's already said his piece and was walking away- Cuzzi takes off his mask, says something, and fires up the argument again - then tosses the manager. I only hope that behind the scenes Cuzzi's getting a negative evaluation out of this. He's one of the umps who thinks fans are there to see him - Cowboy Joe West Jr. They need someone to ride herd on the umpires closer, because of idiots like him.
  11. Albert Belle- David Wells Look up clubhouse cancer, and these 2 should be the illustration for it
  12. The Reds and the Dodgers had a pretty good rivalry going for many of those years, but dont recall whether that actually figured in to the original alignment or not.
  13. Being located in the middle of the Cardinal/Cub rivalry, I've seen Cub fans for the pathetic bunch they are here in Central Illinois. I am close enough to Chicago to see the Cub bias there in the media. I just wish the Sox organization would make more of a marketing effort in this area.
  14. Guess he could have mentioned where they are with the payroll currently, but this seemed fair and objective compared to the garbage that Morrissey's been saying. Brings out what KW's line of thinking is - preparing for now and keeping 3-4 years from now in mind. The writer doesnt just rip in there with opinions such as 'here comes the fire sale'. You're right on with the general drift of Cubune writers, I just dont see it in this article
  15. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) I feel your pain. Its tough to be black in a red and blue world here in Spfld, too. There was an email war here at the office during the last Cub/Card series with the Cub fans taunting the Cards fans about them getting swept in the WS. The Cards fans replied that they at least they know what its like to experience half the glory. I replied back to them all asking if they wanted to know what if felt like to experience all the glory :rolly. SFF Well done on your email reply - I see same red/blue world in Jacksonville. Though FM 101.3 is carrying many but not all Sox games this year - i assume you likely will be able to pick it up in Springfield
  16. Cleveland also worries me much more. I think Detroit may prove to be more of a problem in the future, but right now Cleveland worries me alot more.
  17. QUOTE(knightni @ May 25, 2006 -> 01:03 AM) Rickey Henderson thinks that Rickey Henderson should be not only #1 on that list but also #s 2 through 20 on that list as well. Excellent, Excellent!! Got a good chuckle on that...He's a legend in his own mind.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) These both look like great moves to me. I third the notion that moving Sosa and Caray were both good ones. I am old enough to remember Harry all the way back to St Louis, and I never heard anybody else who had it in for so many people. Think Milo Hamilton summed him up pretty well. Sammy, gee we missed 12-13 years of a cubhouse butthead who never figured out the correct base to throw to.
  19. QUOTE(vandy125 @ May 12, 2006 -> 07:22 AM) I have never heard someone advocate for less hustle from players. Wow, I am just amazed. If you dug some of those Philly fans out of a cavein, they'd be griping about you getting dirt all over them. Thank God those particular idiots are on the east coast, but I like the thought of turning them loose at Wrigley with that bunch..
  20. I never did hold Rooney in the high regard that many do - I thought when Hagin left, that the Sox kept the wrong guy. Got real tired of Rooney getting me all pumped up on a long fly ball by consistently raising his voice about three levels thinking it was gone, only to have it be caught short of the track. I think he's an average announcer, not the great one many seem to think of him as. WSCR is giving Sox fans and Singleton a bum deal. If he picks things up and turns into a good announcer, it'd be in spite of them. Pretty tough way to break into a profession-in a top job following someone who's been at it for decades. I'm trying not to wince too much and give him lots of leeway. Really wish they would have brought Hagin back, but he no doubt would not have come cheap enough to suit WSCR.
  21. QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 06:46 PM) With Burnette's history of injuries, I wouldn't have added the extra year either. Toronto will regret that deal, not the money per year but the length of the deal. Your make a good point there on Burnette, my main plug for the Sox is that they are flexible enough to address a particular contract issue when necessary, St Louis would not budge on a contract once it gets above their preset parameters even if there wasnt a history of injuries.
  22. Just a perspective from an area where you'll hear alot of Cardinal info, I think Sox ownership and front office currently stacks up better than this survey shows. Where the Sox stepped up and added a year to Konerko's contract when it became evident they had to in order to keep him, St Louis did not on Burnette and let him get away to Toronto. Players coming to st Louis are expected to sign for less because its 'such a good environment'. Cardinals are raking in money but not as willing to spend it.. Way to go Kenny and Jerry
  23. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) I would sooner bring David Wells back to the South Side than watch Cancer Lofton half-ass his way around CF again. Im with you on that! No Lofton nohow!
