On Jan, 19. bill Veeck's second and final tour as owner of the WhiteSox ended with the sale of the club to real estate developer Jerry Reisndorf and television executive Eddie Einhorn. In first place on May 23 with a 22-16 record, the Sox lost three straight in Seattle and began a downward slide that finally placed them fifth, 70-90, 26 games out. Chet Lemon (.292) was the top hitter and Lamar Johnson (.277) had 13 homers and 81 RBI's but no other hitter had more than 59 RBI's. Jim Morrison (.283) and Wayne Nordhagen (.277) had 15 homers apiece. Three rookies started for the Pitchers. Britt Burns (15-13) had a 2.84 ERA (third best in the League) Rich Dotson was 12-10 and Lammar Hoyt was 9-3 despite not making his first start until July. Out of the Bullpen, Ed Farmer (7-9) set a club record with 30 saves and mike proly (5-10) had 8- What annoys you most about the CUBS!

Don Kessinger, One time hero for the crosstown Cubs, became the playing manager but lasted only till Aug 2 as the WhiteSox staggered into fifth place. Tony LaRuss took over when Kessinger retired on Aug2 and was 27-27 as the team finished fifth, 73-87, 14 games behind. July 12 was a depressing night as an anti Disco promotion turned into a near riot and the Sox had to forefit the second game of a twi night doubleheader to the detroit Tigers. Chet Lemon continued his fine all around play with a .318 average, 17 homers and 86 RBI's. Lemon's average was the best for a Sox hitter since Minnie Minoso's .320 in 1954. Lamar Johnson (.309) had 12 homers and 74 RBI's but Jim Morrison obtained from the Phillies on July 10th, hit .275 with 14 homers and 35 RBI's in just 67 games. Eric Soderholm was traded to Texas for Ed Farmer who had 14 saves in 44 games for the Sox. Ken Kravec (15-13), Ross Baumgarten (13-8) and Rich Wortham (14-14) were the top Winners- Lawton

I agree with ya. If we trade Reed, we get something big and someone with an Impact on our Team. Not Jennings or Chacon. I wouldn't mind either, but as a smaller deal.- White Sox History
After the Excitement of the Longball Festival the year before, Oscar Gamble and Richie Zisk were among the missing, having opted for extravagant free-agent deals (As did Infielder Jack Brohamer). Shortly, manager Bob Lemon was also gone. On June 30th Lemon was fired with the club 34 - 40 and 5.5 games out. Larry Doby was named the manager but did no better, the White Sox finished fifth (71-90), 20.5 games behind. One of the name players acquired in the Off-season shuffling was Bobby Bonds but we traded to Texas for Claudell Washington, hitting .167 at Texas, batted .264 in 88 games for the Sox. Chet Lemon hit .300 with 13 homers and 55 RBI's and Wayne Nordhagen batted .301 although both battled injury all season. Jorge Orta (.274) also had 13 homers. Steve Stone (12-12), Ken Kravec (11-16) and Wilbur Wood (10-10) were the top winners and Lerrin Lagrow who had 25 saves in 1976, saved 16.- Gammons Proposes White Sox/Rockies deal
