QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 11:48 AM) Agreed, maybe Schulerholz said PK was bad in his latest book. There's no need to move Paulie to DH. He absolutely is an above-average 1B and has surprisingly good range for such a slow guy.

QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 09:36 AM) I will most likely get grilled for this, but I would LOVE to have Dye back... AS THE DH. If there is any way to trade Thome (I know he has a NTC) we should do it. I like Thome a lot, but he's constantly tweaking his back and I'd love to dump his salary. If Kenny can unload Thome, I wouldn't mind him giving JD a three-year deal and possibly moving JD to DH at some point (not necessarily next year).

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 09:13 AM) I would like to add my 2 cents to this as I believe I have something to contribute, having been down in Tucson for about 5 weeks this spring. I totally respect your opinion and viewpoint but may I say that some of it is skewed. It had a lot to do with Brian. A lot. Unfortunately he had a really bad year last year and compounded it with not fitting in with many in the clubhouse. Now I know some of you will say "so what" to that but whether we like it or not, that's baseball. The "chatter" down in Tucson was Brian didn't put in the extra effort required to be a productive big leaguer (at the plate). Referring to things as extra time in the cage, getting to the ballpark early and staying late. Brian didn't do that. Interesting. I heard that he was chided by his teammates for being an obnoxious showboat after the WS. I agree with that as well. My guess is that Ozzie didn't like Anderson's attitude and he asked KW to find somebody else. So in that regard, it had everything to do with BA.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 11:57 PM) This has absolutely nothing to do with Brian Anderson, I'm way past all that s***, all this has to do with is a false assumption that some people seem to have. I don't see how anyone can believe that Erstad was brought in here to compete for a starting job, he was signed to be the starter. Anderson was the clear winner of the CF contest in ST, there's no real debate there, Anderson had a MUCH better spring yet Erstad was given the job anyway. If it was attitude problems that killed any hopes Brian had of being the starter in '07 then those problems had to have been there in '06 when he was platooning with Mackowiak and again over the winter when he reluctantly played in Venezuela. Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. That would explain why Mack was in CF down the stretch last year and why Erstad beat him out in ST with inferior play. I don't pretend to know what goes on in the clubhouse, but this would make sense. Especially when there were rumors flying around about B-Mac getting "too big for his britches" last year and then being dealt in December.

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) Anderon is striking out once every 4 at bats in AAA ball and is currently at .255. He would be on pace for about 150 strike outs at the AAA leve. I'd have to assume he'd K close to 200 times if given 600 Major League at bats. So, it may not be attitude at all. It may be just that Brian Anderson isn't a big league caliber hitter. Oh, no doubt about that. I'm basing my comments off of what I hear about BA through a friend of my sister's (who knew BA at the U of A).

QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) This franchise has never had a successful GM.. Luck yes.. Successful no.. Big Difference. Kenny took the Sox from a pitching-starved franchise with a below-average farm system and payroll constraints to a champion. There's no getting around that. Does that mean that Kenny's a great GM? No. Does it mean that Kenny's even an above-average GM? No. But it does mean that he was successful. Luck, my ass. It was a competent GM assembling a talented team, strong coaching/leadership, a positive clubhouse, and the players getting it done on the field. "Luck" does not result in 99 wins, an 11-1 playoff record, and a level of dominance that equaled the '99 Yankees and '84 Tigers.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) It was obvious from the very beginning that Erstad was being brought in here to take over the CF job. I really don't think Anderson ever had a shot at winning it. Maybe it has more to do with Anderson than Erstad? Why play Mackowiak in favor of Anderson in '06, allow Erstad to take Anderson's job in '07, and then let Anderson rot in the minors while Erstad sits on the DL for most of the season? I wouldn't put intense, irrational dislike of Anderson (or any player) past Ozzie, but it seems more plausible that Anderson might have a serious attitude problem or something.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 09:10 AM) Try to have some perspective here. KW has been winning, more so than most GM's in fact, in his time here. If yo want to get all up in arms and think he is the worst ever, fine, but the facts show quite the opposite. Yes, this year sucks. But KW has absolutely been a successful GM in the grand scheme. You will find very few other GM's (if any) who have won as many games in the same time span as he has. SoxFan77's vehement hatred of KW isn't rooted in logic. You're wasting your time.

Considering that Tejada ain't getting any younger and that the steroid-testing policies aren't getting any less stringent, no.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:27 AM) My opinion is it is probably even more fruitless then him starting at this point. They need to "find" an injury and open up that roster spot for another looksie. I agree. Jose can throw simulated games while "recovering." Given how overly-sensitive Jose can be, I don't see how moving him to long-relief mop-up duty would help HIM. The team is beyond help at this point, but I think that Jose might be salvageable for next season if he can re-gain his command and confidence.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) Bobby Jenks could probably bring in a package of players similar (probably a bit less) to what Teix got the Rangers. I'd move him in a second if a team were offering up a deal like that. +1 I don't think that we're going to see the 2005/early 2006 Bobby again.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) I thought it was a poor move by the Twins (but than again I am not scouting those other playesr nor am I that familiar with them). I've heard rumors (via ESPN) that Santana was pissed about this and wants out of MIN. Any truth to this? QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) no one is worse than KW with trades. Yeah, he got really screwed on the Garcia, Contreras, Vazquez, Thome, and Danks trades.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 12:36 AM) If Kenny and Ozzie weren't so stubborn we could have ridded ourselvs of JC about a month and a half ago when he at least had some value. What makes you think that anybody was willing to pay the remaining $25 million on JC's contract a month and a half ago? You may have a point here. Perhaps the best package available for an aging slugger with a .292 OBP and eroding defensive skills was less than the draft picks that the Sox could get after he leaves as a FA? This team is in better shape now than it was when Kenny took over after 2000. I'll take Mark, Jon, Javy, and Danks over Mark, an injury-prone David Wells, James Baldwin, Rocky Biddle, and Danny Wright. You can't compete without halfway decent starting pitching, which we definitely did not have in 2001.

Holy Moly, Jose has completely lost it. He'll get moved to the 'pen later this year. Hopefully we can entice somebody to take a chance on him for half-price sometime this winter.
-
QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 03:31 PM) I now think there is a good chance that Dye gets re-signed. Yep, but I'd rather they let him go and take the picks, rather than give a 34-year-old a three-year deal.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) Typical Soxtalk household diaries...... Her Diary Tonight I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk, he agreed but he kept quiet and absent. I asked him what was wrong - he said, "Nothing." I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry. On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior; I don't know why he didn't say, "I love you, too." When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched T.V.; he seemed distant and absent. Finally I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed and to my surprise he responded to my caress and we made love, but I still felt that he was distracted and his thoughts were somewhere else. I decided that I could not take it anymore, so I decided to confront him with the situation but he had fallen asleep. I started crying and cried until I too fell asleep. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster. HIS DIARY Today Kenny is pushing this team further into the abyss and made another worthless trade, but at least I got laid. I'm going to send this to my wife. Perhaps she'll get the hint that my occasional bad moods are not always about HER.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) The guy couldn't have been any more clear in refrencing why he was disappointed. The quote is in black and white. Why you chose to make more of it is beyond me. But don't get all pissy when you're called out for attributing comments to him that he didn't say, or somehow pretending that you know how the guy feels beyond the words that came out of his mouth. And if you can't identify humor, I'm sorry, but that is your problem to deal with.

QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) He is a rental player.. why would he uproot his family for 2-3 months. Read my last post to Steph about how he can come back... Well, unless the Cubs sign him next year, he's going to have to uproot them soon enough. Geez, the guy grew up Oak Lawn and has always been a Sox fan. Give him a freaking break.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) And I did just that.. He is disappointed.. Why? Geez, maybe because he made friends with some of his Sox teammates? Or maybe because he really enjoys living in Chicago and doesn't want to uproot his family once again? :rolleyes
-
QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) A .265 hitter, with AVg Def.. I think Kw can muster that up. I would hope so, as we're going to have less than that once Dye and Pods leave.
-
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) its cool this is all to make room for Rowand, who may play center and right next year. At the same time. If KW is bringing in a Rowand-like player to replace Mack, then I don't have a problem with him dumping Mack's salary. But that's a big "if" right now.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) I have to say this looks a bit weak for a return on Mack. The Dye move or not making one I get, and the Gooch move I get. This one, though, seems like maybe KW got ripped off. +1 Especially considering that Mack (who we may need in LF next year) has a reasonably-priced option for next year. I don't like this move at all.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) He was going to make too much money for a utility player. It's a shame, we never used him right. He should have been given more playing time in the infield. Oh well, at least he didn't have to deal with the embarassment of playing CF this year. I think that he could've been platooned at LF next year. Agreed that he's being paid a lot for a utility player, but I see him as much more than that. He's a legitimate starter on a lot of teams... especially teams with as bad an OF as we'll have next year.
-
QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 09:36 AM) Andruw Jones is a free agent after this season, and although he's hitting only .216, he'll be 31 next season and has nine straight years now of 20+ home runs. He's on pace for about 30, so I hope he's considered by KW this offseason. He's generally good for 30-40 home runs and a .260 batting average, so if it's assumed Konerko and Thome will be back, Jones would be a good fit at No. 5 in the lineup.? Jones is a shell of what he used to be defensively and will be looking for a huge contract. And isn't Borass his agent? No thanks.
-
Can't say I like this, given that we won't get much in return. I would've rather KW picked up his option and kept his LH bat and versatility... especially considering what we'll have in the OF next year.
