  1. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) Someone's gotta go. Keeping everyone just wouldn't make sense. Let's just fire everybody, including the players, groundscrew, and hot dog vendors. That would make even more sense.
  2. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) Ozuna's a bench player with questionable OBP abilities that is coming off of a severe leg injury which probably has robbed him of some of his speed. Didn't he break his ankle? As long as it heals properly, it's not going to rob him of his speed. Not in the way that multiple torn knee ligaments, a torn Achilles, or a torn hamstring would.
  3. QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) I will say this- this is the most disappointing team I can remember- with the 84 squad coming in at a close second. It doesn't rank quite that high on my list. 1994 is the worst in my lifetime for obvious reasons. '84 and '95 were both worse than this year because you could see the cracks forming in this squad last August/September. And, of course, '97 was awful on multiple levels.
  4. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) Now why is that Greg? Because of the two games you have seen him play in LF? Fields, IMO is athletic enough to pick up LF and play fairly decent defense.... Agreed. I mean, come on, Carlos Lee can play LF with some degree of competence. I don't think that Fields, who is faster and way more athletic, will have a problem picking it up.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) I remember seeing A LOT of people saying we should spend everything to take one chance at a World Series, and that it didn't matter what happened after the fact. They just wanted the one title. Those people seem to have all disappeared, except for one honest one here. to you for being honest. After 23 years of waiting, I was beginning to think that it wouldn't happen in my lifetime. I won't say that I "don't care" what happens for the next 40-50 years, but if they didn't even win another pennant over that time, 2005 will be worth it to me.
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 08:46 AM) So, is the team thinking about bringing back Crede... I think that's exactly what it means.
  7. It's on pace to be. It's reminding me of '86, but without all of the firings.
  8. As much as I like Young, we're going to need Javy to anchor the middle of the rotation after Jon leaves (which could be in less than 12 months).
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 10:06 AM) fixed I didn't realize that his velocity was down that much. No wonder he's getting smacked around like a red-headed stepchild.
  10. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 05:18 AM) Agree. But - if the Sox TRULY intend to win this division next year, they really need to sign BOTH Rowand and Hunter Not gonna happen, unless both Contreras and Thome are moved this winter. And since Jose has pretty much zero value right now, that pretty much settles that.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) If Garland has 5 very dominant outings he tends to come right back with another 5 that are terrible. There's a reason why his ERA ends up around 4.50 every year. Hell, Ted Lilly is often dominant but he also tends to implode a couple times a year, hence why he's pretty close to league average by the season's end. Same goes for Jason Jennings and Doug Davis. Jon relies way too heavily on his two-seamer and sinker because his off-speed stuff is mediocre. If he threw 97, like Randy Johnson in his prime, he might be able to get away with that. But it doesn't work when you top off at 93.
  12. That would definitely be a concern. I'd rather leave Bobby where he is. Our bullpen is awful and we need all the help we can get there.
  13. In other news, the sky is blue and water is wet.
  14. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) Doubt he'll get it this year. +1
  15. Bobby didn't have his best stuff last night. He was leaving those breaking balls way up in the zone. Oh well, it was a hell of a run and Bobby now has a piece of history. And more importantly, he's been incredibly effective this year, despite maxing out at 96.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 07:54 AM) I don't believe Maddux turned down ten million from the Yankees for 5,800,000. That's not Boras' MO. Maybe he did overrule Scott, but I doubt that. I'm not sure what the Yankees offered him, but I do know that the Braves entered the Maddux derby late, wooed him, talked to him about their rotation and its potential, sold him on the city, etc. etc., and then he joined. It's also possible that Maddux just didn't want to play in the fish bowl of New York. A lot of players don't want to play for the Yankees. Griffey turned down a trade to them years ago.... and got death threats from rabid Yankees fans because of it.
  17. If Kenny's serious about making another run in '08, Jon isn't going to be dealt this winter. But if this squad struggles out of the gate again next year, I'd be pretty upset if Kenny didn't put Jon on the block in early June.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) That vote it was unlimited. You didn't need to create fake email addy's to vote for the final slot, only for the game itself. So then it's even easier to cheat. My God, what a stupid system. I can't believe that it determines home-field advantage in the WS.
  19. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 01:26 PM) Carl Crawford also said that the way the White Sox and fans pushed Podsednick to be the final all-star in 2005 was "Bush League" as he was also nominated for that final all-star spot. If Crawford has a problem with fans being allowed to vote 25 times each with as many fake e-mail addresses as they have time to create (as I do), he should complain to Selig for implementing such a ridiculous voting system, rather than taking it out on the fans.
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) Konerko signed a 5 year deal following the '05 season.... By my count. he has 3 years (and six weeks) remaining on that contract. Yep, and that's about 110-120 HRs. I don't foresee Paulie being around after his contract is up.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) Those seasons he was very young. Jon was in his mid-20's and had been pitching in the league for five years before having his one really good season. He relies way too heavily on his two-seamer and sinker and his off-speed stuff has been historically mediocre. When he locates well, his stuff is good enough to dominate at times. If his command is off, hitters will sit on his fastball and knock it out of the park. I don't think that Jon's inconsistency is due to shoulder tightness. And if Jon is experiencing "tightness" in his shoulder, why in the hell is he out there right now?
  22. Hunter will be 33 next year and his defensive skills will tail off over that time. I'd rather have Rowand for a few million a year less.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 09:55 AM) Ozzie made Garland after Jerry Manuel nearly ruined him, if you want to believe everything you hear and read. Garland goes on rolls. His shoulder was tight the first half last season and he was battered, and it was tight the second half this one with the same result. When it was "loose" he was outstanding. I wonder if there's a bigger problem than a knot. So was he experiencing this same "tightness" from '00-'04? Either way, he's maddeningly inconsistent.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 08:47 AM) I'd say Garland's mysterious 2 year "knot" counts as arm trouble. Or perhaps he's just not as good a pitcher as '05 suggested.
  25. QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) Anderson should have the center field job locked up, and not have to compete for the job in ST. Forgetting the green?
