Sweet love of God, we scored some runs!

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) Would anyone be sad if Greg Walker was let go? I don't think it's his fault we aren't hitting, so I would be pissed if they made him the scapegoat.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) Beutiful 0-2 pitch by Buehrle to Morneau. Do our pitchers go stupid when they get ahead in the count 0-2? I believe our pitchers go stupid on 0-2 counts, and when there are two outs. How many two-out runs is this team going to give up?

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Really? He will? For a 2 month rental? Jayson Stark was on ESPN radio with Mike and Mike this morning and he explained why Bowden is not getting what he is asking for and why he probably wont get it because Soriano is really only a 2 month rental player. There is no assurance any team will be able to re-sign him. I believe you are wrong and Bowden will not get that premier prospect that he wants so badly. Exactly.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) If it gives us a better chance to make it to the playoffs and win the world series THIS YEAR then I do not care. Do you remember it was 88 years between world series? I would rather win again this year then be able to say "wow that Sweeney sure is good, I am glad we kept him instead of winning another world series" 'Nuf said. Exactly, how many people cried about not trading Jeremy Reed? I think that worked out for us if memory serves. People were higher on Reed than on Sweeney, why all the Sweeney love right now? The last I read, he wasn't putting up earth-shattering numbers.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) From what I have read, Bowden is holding out for a stud prospect right now and just isn't getting it. He will eventually get it, IMO, it just depends on who flinches first come Saturday/Sunday. I think if this goes until Sat/Sun, Bowden is going to have to settle for less. Not one of the teams Bowden is talking to is offering their stud prospects. If it goes till Sunday, Soriano's trade value drops because Bowden HAS to get rid of him for something.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 05:33 AM) With reports the sox are scouting the MIL/Pit games, I don't think Hernandez or Torres would be that much better than what the sox already have. I'm wondering if they aren't there for them [they may be--Torres is decent but signed a big deal in the offseason], then who else makes sense? I'm going with Brady Clark. He's making over $3 mill. He played Mon. in Cf and LF [where he could replace Ozuna vs LHP--he's hitting over .300 this yr vs LHP]. He's that righty hitting OF the sox need. Gload could find himself out of a job. Hasn't Mack played 1b in his career? IIRC, he has. Why take up a roster spot with Gload when Clark would play more? I would be totally interested in trading for Brady Clark.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) Stark's latest report claims that while Kirkijan still claims that the White Sox and Nationals are in talks, the deal was never extremely close. He says that most GM's aren't buying the rumors, and are wondering how Bowden could do this deal this early if both Fields and McCarthy are unavailable. States that Bowden is still inviting offers. Speculates KW may be trying to put a package together that includes Broadway, Sweeney, and Liotta, but those aren't the kind of blue chip prospects Bowden is looking for. That is the deal you may take on Sunday, but not on Tuesday. I am more inclined to believe Kurkijian than Stark.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) Not necessarily. Vaz has been dominant in the NL in the past and my guess is they think he could come in and do more of the same while Pods could be a versatile leadoff man for them who fits the NL style of baseball much more fitting. Not saying he's better than Soriano, but if they would prefer major league help they would be getting exactly that in a Soriano move. They replace Soriano with a decent leadoff hitter (albeit one thats not near as explosive) and get a guy thats been an all star type pitcher in the NL. Well put.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:55 PM) Well, he looks great this year, but he hasn't always looked so good. For Texas last year, he had a HUGE home/road HR differential. When he was with the Yanks in the playoffs, you could always get him out because he was such a free swinger. They dropped him way down the lineup because his OBP was so bad. The guy seems like a fantastic talent, but I still don't think he's a disciplined hitter. And he's never paid enough attention to defense to be a complete player. I would still take him any day of the week if I could get him on my team. The guy is an all-star, and deservedly so.

For all the talk about the budget, and especially the limited budget KW supposedly has, does anyone have first hand knowledge on what the budget is, or will be next year?
-
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) The one thing that makes me think this isn't going to happen is that I think Soriano overvalues his services. Accordingly, he's not going to sign a deal in the next few days at any level the Sox would offer. I mean, the Sox aren't going to give him Paul Konerko money. Yet I think that's what Soriano thinks he can command. I think maybe you're undervaluing his services. He's going to get paid big by someone in the offseason, he's a great player. Not just good, or very good, great.

QUOTE(BoKnows @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) doubt this is worth anything, but Harry on Mac Jurko & Harry said he just heard a report that a deal for Soriano for Pods and Vazauez was in the works. unlikely, but if that's the deal, pull the trigger Kenny! However unlikely, maybe this is why KW said BMac is part of our present and future. If we got rid of Vasquez, it would open the spot for McCarthy. I would say that someone like Broadway would be included in this trade. I don't see the Nats making this trade w/o a prospect involved in some way.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) Every team in baseball wants McCarthy, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't. Beacause those teams are rebuilding, or looking for young starting pitching. They aren't in the thick of a playoff race with World Series repeat aspirations.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) My theory. SOriano makes our offense NASTY. So, if we get him and CANT turn him around, the Sox would be ok with that BUT, would rather turn him around for someone. But who do we flip him for? Soriano is an A+ player, I don't know who we would get that is better than or equal to him.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) Lets look at the rumors today. First we are close to aqquring Soriano, and then we are looking at Lee also. Maybe the Nats are insistant that we give up bmac, and we want to give up broadway instead. Get two people intererested in your prospects and see if the Nats go for it. If they can get Soriano and dont have to give up Bmac that would be a nice deal. The Brewers want McCarthy too. From what I've heard, nearly every team that see McCarthy, want him.
-
Why flip Soriano? If we can sign him, why flip him? We are going to draw more fans than ever this season, why wouldn't we sign him. Soriano is one of those players that are coveted. While his defense isn't great, everything else about him is.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) King Felix. Hell Yes!! The only way I would flip Soriano is if Felix was involved.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) My garbage man told me that Tyler and Kenny have a handshake agreement that he would go easy on the Sox in 3 years when he's at the show. Three years? With the KC pitching staff, he could be their number 2 this year!
-
I don't really understand why we would want Lee, unless it was to ship him elsewhere. I can understand trading for Soriano and keeping hime, but not Lee.
-
Offmann just said Carlos Lee was also a possibility on the last 670 scoreboard report. Said there was a better chance of Soriano though.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) At least when Ozzie puts in his spiffty lineup, Damian Miller is hitting and catching. Something Widger can't do. I absolutely agree that Miller is better than Widger, but I would never give up Fields for him. It really doesn't matter anyways. Miller is not available. The Brewers are still in the hunt, and he is an important piece of their team.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Trade Fields for him. Now! *awaits flaming* You're insane
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) Don't know how his career numbers are against lefties, but anyone know what Damian Miler is doing these days? I don't think the Brewers would get rid of Miller. He calls a great game (remember the glory days of Wood and Prior pitching well?), and he is one of the Brewers clubhouse leaders.

Brian Anderson just landed on the Mendoza line
soxpride77 replied to gojimthome's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Congrats to Brian for being one of our most reliable hitters lately and raising the average above .200!
