  1. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) Does anyone here have any family members by-marriage who are just such a great fit and so wonderful that they become as close or closer to you than your blood relations? That was my "Uncle" Joe. Not really an uncle, but married to a first cousin. Unbelievably great guy, generous beyond measure, and lifelong diehard Sox fan to boot. He was diagnosed with lymphoma a couple of years back, and it progressed unbelievably rapidly and just ate him up. He died yesterday, way before he should have, leaving a wife, children, and new grandchildren way too soon. You will be missed by many, Uncle Joe. :crying Sorry to hear that Jim. My situation is a little different because I have really close friend by-marriage. (close friend of the in-laws...and now a close friend of mine). Thoughtful, great person who is hilarious and generous as well.

    Jericho

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 04:04 AM) For starters, those that have Universal HD can catch up on the 1st season starting Saturday night at 9:00. They are showing a Jericho marathon that runs through 7:00pm on Sunday. (central time) The Return begins Tuesday night at 9:00 on CBS. Seven episodes were all filmed and completed before the writer's strike so it will not be affected whatever happens with the writers. For those that did not watch the first season, I recommend you do so. The series is about the US being hit with nuclear bombs and how a small town in Kansas copes with being cut off from the outside world, not knowing who they were at war with or how anything happend. They get information bit by bit and learn there are other towns that have set up trading posts and are figuring out how to survive. Crime becomes rampant. They give you a bit more information each week to help you try and put the puzzle on what happened together, but they do a great job of leaving you hanging, wanting more the next week. The characters and story lines are excellent and it was one of the better dramas of last year. Me and the Mrs started checking this show out about a month ago... bit by bit, we've been watching the first season. We're about 2/3rds through it now. Overall, I think it's a pretty great show. There are at times some "groan" moments where the plot points are a little hard to swallow (did he/she really have to SAY what everyone was thinking just to advance the plot?) , but as the show rolls on they're definitely getting better and better at telling the story. The problem I have is that after watching Lost, which must have an insane budget, visually, every other "drama" seems "made for tv-ish". In the end, watch Jericho, because it's a cool story and post-apocolyptic worlds > stupid-ethereal island whose inhabitants make me want scream.
  3. Just a few facts for us: There are 13 participants in the SBLC. Our Average starting weight is 240 lbs We have pledged to lose 466 lbs. Which would lower our average weight to 203.8 lbs or ~36.2 lbs of weight loss each. One pound = 3,500 calories. Which means we need to burn 1,631,000 calories to reach our goals. With 30 minutes of Cardio (running at 5.5mph) and 30 minutes of weight training we would burn ~429 calories (294+135) We will need to work out 3802 hours to reach our goal or run 2773 miles

  5. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) Well, I think it is against the law to ask them that before you hire them. Must be some kind of law to protect the stupid people or something. Get this. I call his home, to get his ass here to fire him, no answer. I call his cell, right to voice mail. Been that way all day. I am going to be stuck here for another 2 hours or so, if I don't get an answer somewhere before I go home, I may just leave a very creative voicemail on his cell. This could be fun! if so I break the law frequently... It's my go to question at the end of interviews. Then again, I'm in PA, so most people are like..."whaaa?" It probably wouldn't be an appropriate question in Chicago.

  15. Though the dieting thread can continue, I thought it was a good idea to start a different thread specifically dedicated to the SBLC. If you are participating and using the sig counter, please post in this thread so it's easy for me to track everyone's results here. I will do a weekly run down of all participants results, including the monthly tally. My results for week 1: 3lbs lost
  16. I lost 3 lbs this week. my plan breakfast 8am: 300 to 400 calories (good fiber cereal and skim milk) snack 11am: 150 to 200 calories (banana and skim milk) lunch 1pm: 500 to 600 calories (salad, veggie pizza on whole wheat bread or turkey sub on whole wheat with lettuce, spinach and tomato, apple/orange, and skim milk) snack 4pm: 150 to 200 calories (14 pretzels and a light yogurt) dinner 7pm: 400 to 500 calories (whole wheat pasta, salmon skewers, or crab cakes with salad and pear/apple, 2-3 glasses of water) like snack 10pm: 100 calories (light yogurt, slightly frozen) total daily diet: 1600-2000 calories exercise 2 days of weights and body sculpting 2 days of cardio, tae bo (set to increase when the spring/summer starts) I will be down to my goal weight in 6-9 months.
  17. can't they track who he sold them to and go from there? There are going to be some unhappy nerds, I mean, collectors of old documents.
  18. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) Just a hint to some of you folks whom I can see are updating your #s daily... you'll go nuts doing that. Trust me, you'll want to commit to a once-a-week weigh in (or at most twice). I'm doing mine on Friday mornings. It's just better for your sanity to weigh in once a week. that will also help for data collecting. Right now I just have monthly data slots, but I will update weekly and lock in the weights on a monthly basis.
  19. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) Oh yeah? Well. . . until recently I had several small moons orbiting me due to the gravitational pull generated by my massive fat ass and saggy man-boobs. Dad? so master of excel how do you recommend I cacluate different start dates v. %? (∑x)-366 ??
  20. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) Yeah, I started really going at it a week before this and those 5 lbs were hard earned and should count! Where's Jillian when you need someone to beat some ass!? ok, that's fair. but what's the cutoff? I was at 307 when I started dieting back in July, now I'm down to 293 (slow but steady wins the race). since this thing isn't really a competition per se, but a tool to help everyone track together, I think that's fine. I'll make the necessary changes.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Even before we start, a couple other winners Southsider2k5 -- Biggest Hoosier Heads -- Biggest Boozer Correction: Carlos -- Biggest Boozer
