  1. Fan who jumped from Yankee Stadium upper deck is banned August 9, 2006 NEW YORK (AP) -- A baseball fan who jumped from the upper deck at Yankee Stadium onto the netting behind home plate has been banned for life from the ballpark and could be sent to jail, a judge said Wednesday. Scott Harper, 19, of Armonk, N.Y., pleaded guilty Wednesday to reckless endangerment following last season's plunge at the New York Yankees' Bronx stadium. District Attorney Robert Johnson recommended probation and restitution to the Yankees, but Harper rejected the deal. Harper's criminal sentence, to be handed down Sept. 19, will depend on the outcome of another case in Westchester County for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, state Supreme Court Judge Troy Webber said. The district attorney's office recommended 30 days in jail; Harper had faced up to a year. A telephone message left at Harper's home was not immediately returned Wednesday. Harper dropped about 40 feet onto the large net, which stops foul balls from flying back into the stands, during the eighth inning of an Aug. 10, 2005, game against the Chicago White Sox. The game was delayed for four minutes while he was removed. After the final out, Harper was carried from the ballpark on a stretcher, his head immobilized in a neck brace, and taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released. Harper told three friends with whom he was sitting that he was going to test whether the net would hold his weight and then jumped, police said. After landing, he sat with his head in his hands for a few moments before climbing on the net back up to the middle level of seats while players watched and the crowd roared. He then was hoisted over the railing and led away by security.
  2. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) hmm our 9nth inning lineup is not very fearsome cintron-anderson-podsednik Who would you plug in? Bench AVG R HR RBI R. Gload 1B .284 13 1 12 S. Alomar C .310 3 0 11 R. Mackowiak CF .299 23 3 15 J. Uribe SS .246 37 14 53
  3. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Wow, now we have racist remarks on this forum. Good work. Wow, I must be getting old. It is a shame when a direct quote from Caddy Shack is not recognized.
  4. I am not really in the mood to get a playoff invoice from the Sox right about now.
  5. Buehrle did not look that bad outside of a few pitches but God damn it if he showed me no fire in the last inning. Not that I am looking for Carlos Zambrano type stuff but a little emotion would be a good thing. How many strikes does he have to throw to get a guy out. An umpire is getting it from both benches, why not from Buehrle too. He should have given that ump hell.
  6. Why the hell wasn't MB kicking the crap out of some water cooler in the dugout? He got s***ty calls in his last inning but he should have left the game with only three earned runs. It didn't even seem to phase him that he got fricked over half a dozen times in that last inning. Instead he balks. The guy has no passion. In fact this whole team seems to have lost its fight. They better shake that crap or they will not see the post season.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) Come on Kid, get us off to a good start next inning. 37 pitches for Buehrle through 3. 34 for Escobar through 2. Pods keeps faking the bunt and taking strikes ever since that bunt hit he had in Toronto. 48 for Escobar now. Good bat for Gooch to run it up anyway.
  8. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) I agree with most of what you say, however this may just be Detroit's year. (to win the central, the playoffs is a whole different monster) They've gotten a lot of luck, people seem to forget that we had a lot of balls bounce our way last year. I agree, a 6-3 road trip is a great start, hopefully we have a great homestand and carry it into September...and OCTOBER. It may be the Tigers year. But we won't know that until Oct 2nd and should not give a rats ass about what the Tigers do from day to day until they are standing in front of us. One thing is for sure, the Sox are not going to beat the Tigers tonight. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) and put the clamps on the 3rd base coach. Please explain....
  9. Really sick and tired of the negativity. We can catch Detroit and beat them. We have 10 games head to head and a great ball club, solid manager and coaches. Screw the next 10, the next 24 or what ever. Our current goal is this. Beat the Angels. One game at a time. Stop watching the standings. Stop targeting the wild card. Just win baby. Your playoff position will take care of itself if you do that.
  10. We will win the central. I don't think this team is firing on all cylinders yet. We had a taste of it in May. It will come back together in August. We are going to put a Rodney King style ass beatin on the Yankees and the Tigers this week and once again every pitcher in the AL will fear our line up and every hitter in the AL will fear our starting 5 and closer. The Yankees will be the wild card and the Tigers will be on the outside looking in.
  11. Paid to do nothing? Hmm, yeah, probably bullshiot. All they have to do is put a little program on your computer... and then in six months when you puter is all figged up, they will charge you $150 to give you the clean-up software.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) He looked nasty last night. He was getting his curve and slider over and was throwing 98 and he struck out 3. The ball Glaus hit, you tip your hat to that. The pitch was 98, up and away. Now the other night against Berroa. He was just throwing his fastball. For Jenks to be effective he needs to get that breaking pitch over. But I do see a pattern with him. Pretty much they call fastball for the first 2 strikes, then go to the breaking pitches for the out pitch. Maybe an early curve might open things up more for him. Closers go through funks at some point in the season. I think Bobby is just coming out of his. His stuff last night was as good as it has been. Agreed. He looked great last night. Buuuut, after he got the last out and he and AJ had done their thing, he turned and walked toward the center field camera. The look he had on his face was like he was having a heart attack. He was pale as shiot. I thought he was going to drop right there. He said something to AJ too. He had his glove over his face like "I don't think that last one was a strike" or something. (Which it wasn't.)
  13. Not that I am glad this guy got injured but it is about time to stop all this Cedric Benson non-sense and get the best RB back working with the number one offense.
  14. Keep your eye on Ronnie Brown this season. I think he is going to be a top 5 back in total yards if he can stay healthy.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) Please start our regular lineup with BA in CF. Here, here.
  16. The Jays would be leading the AL West or any NL division, if they were in it. THis is a tough team and thier best pitcher. Good test here. Let's pass.
  17. Reading this story and some of the responses to it on the SN web site reminds me of how far the Hawks have fallen from grace in this city. When the Fire start to out draw you, you know you have a problem. The NHL should really do something about this. If you can not draw fans in Chicago, the whole league is in trouble. But I will not pay to go see another Hawks game as long as Wirtz owns the team.
  18. Who was Jose' agent? I vaguely remember a story about his agent never passing on the extension offer the Sox made this spring. It only came up when Kenny and Jose were talking casually one day late in camp. Jose was shocked to hear that an offer was made and all but literally signed it on the spot with Kenny in the parking lot in Tuscon. His (Former?) agent had never presented it to him and he was heart broken that he might not return after this season. He loves Chicago and has been very happy. He wanted to stay and I would say the feeling was mutual. Anyone remember this? Or do I have vivid dreams?
