  1. RANDY JOHNSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I don't see a match here.
  2. Let's stop trashing Meche. He's a quality pitcher who's overcome a lot. The Royals were foolish to sign him because it's unlikely that they'll be too competitive with him short-term, but he's a quality pitcher, and he's better than Vazquez, IMO. They're similar guys. "Great stuff. Inconsistent results." Although Meche has been very good this year, which is what so many scouts were saying.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) Navarro at 24 was throwing 234 innings for the Brewers all while posting 15 wins and a 3.92 ERA. He followed that up with a 246 inning season with 17 wins and a 3.33 ERA. The following year was a down year for him (still well over 200 innings) and than he suffered some setbacks and went to the Cubs where he posted two consecutive 200+ inning seasons with sub 4 ERA's. The guy was 29 and pretty much sans a season and a half had been a consistent 200 inning, sub 4 ERA guy. Lets not act like Navarro was some bum, this guy was pretty damn good prior to signing with the Sox. Navarro wasn't a bum but he wasn't an ace, either. He was a huge risk and didn't merit the kind of deal we gave him at all, and it was an easy call to make, IMO. His bad numbers said more to me than any of his other numbers.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) Aside from Billy Koch, when was the last time the White Sox gave up a lot of talent or cash to come up with a closer? Keith Foulke, Bobby Howry, Shingo Takatsu, Flash Gordon, Dustin Hermanson, Bobby Jenks. Foulke came over in the White Flag deal I believe, but other than him, we've pulled a lot of closers out of surprising places. A lot of people can close for a year or two. There are so many guys that close it out for a year or two and do a fine job but can't do it for long. That's okay. A Closer for a year or two isn't THAT hard to come by.
  5. I'd love to deal Jenks. He's a BOOM waiting to happen. Only if we got something worth it, though. And I'm not talking a three player for one type deal like Gage is hypothesizing. I'll know it when I see it.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) I have to say I like what Pods said when he came back (pretty much ripping into the team for being dead). I'd move him, but would wait until the break hoping he shows he's healthy and could provide a spark at the top of the lineup for a team. If he could do that, we could actually get some good value for Pods. I also think if Erstad got healthy you could get a mid level type prospect for him as well. Mid-level? No way. I think you're overstating what someone would give up for Erstad.
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) I never said that he was. My point was that JR won't give a big-money, five-year deal to ANY veteran pitcher, ESPECIALLY after the Navarro fiasco. My point is that the Chicago White Sox got exactly what they deserved when they signed Navarro to that contract over Clemens and Navarro blew up. Navarro had a history of putting up 5 and 6 + ERAs and then he has a couple of good years with the Cubs and we say, "Hey, let's sign him!" Buehrle is the complete opposite situation. It may stand that the Front Office will stand by their rule but I think that's idiotic, especially when all the circumstances are looked at.
  8. Jamie Navarro is not Mark Buehrle's equal in any sense.
  9. Maggs' situation was the right move by us. Crede? We failed. It was pretty obvious something was up with his back worse than before, IMO. He's an idiot to say, "We should've made a harder effort to re-sign World Series heroes Buehrle and Dye." I've said it since last offseason: re-signing Dye would be a huge mistake.
  10. I know some diehard Mariner fans who despise him. But if he wants to retire a Mariner, I hope he retires a Mariner.
  11. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:48 AM) I heard the rumors for Boston. What does everyone think about Jon Lester? His health concerns me. No way do I take him as a centerpiece.
  12. If there's a chance of getting this done, do it right now. Right now.
  13. I don't blame them for having confidence in Schilling, Matsuzaka and Beckett. Wakefield. And they don't really have to worry about not making the playoffs. That said, they could use Buehrle, and they've got a history of dealing lots of talent, so maybe something will get done but I doubt it.
  14. The Red Sox don't NEED Buehrle though. I have doubts that they fit us. I told my friend who loves the Red Sox, "Last year they tried to get Buehrle for Coco Crisp and we said 'Get the f*** out of here' and that was that. I don't know how much Boston REALLY wants him." I'm sure they'll take him if they can get him but I don't think they're going to give up much. And we shouldn't take little for Mark Buehrle.
  15. I'm having trouble sleeping. Even with NyQuill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Slept at ten. Woke up at 12:55 or so. f***! It didn't work!
  16. Theo is in the driver's seat. If he wants Buehrle, he can try and deal for him. If he doesn't want him, he doesn't have to. Personally, I don't think Schilling is a good bet to hold up for the year; Matsuzaka might fall apart yet; Beckett's strong, but how long will it last?; Wakefield? Put Buehrle into that rotation on that team and it's a lot stronger.
  17. Fields doesn't look lost. A little overpowered, but not lost. He's got an approach and he's not looking like an idiot on offspeed pitches. He knows what to do with those and breaking pitches. He just needs to work on his batspeed and shortening his swing.
  18. I saw it on WSI. I thought it was horses***. I said so, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.
  19. Buerhle Iguchi Pedroia Pena #2 or #3 best BoSox SP prospect Am I the only one who thinks that'd be a horses*** trade?
  20. The Governor of Texas said that once, if I recall correctly.
  21. It might not matter if Buehrle wasn't on the team plane. A friend told me that happens all the time with players. So it might mean we'll wake up Buehrle-less tomorrow morning; it might not mean anything.
  22. The correct answer is "2005. Who cares? You'll be in the same spot we are come October except with a bunch of terrible contracts that carry. Next!"
