I'm not saying they're cheap -- I'm saying they have ridiculous policies re: pitchers, both draft-wise and contract-wise.

Jimmy Carter won a Nobel Peace Prize out of spite. He wasn't given it because all of a sudden, thirty years later, the Nobel committee decided that Carter's Israel-Egypt negotiations were magnificent; he won it because they wanted to send a message to Boosh. About Carter + being an outsider affecting his Presidency: certainly. It also doesn't hurt that Ted Kennedy wanted his job and had Tip O'Neill sabotage him accordingly. However, being an outsider alone won't damn you. Being an incompetent will, and for all the issues he had to deal with from The Bostonians, he made his own problems, too, by being impersonal with Congress and making boneheaded decisions.
-
Everytime these deals are announced I become upset because I don't think the White Sox will extend Mark Buehrle because "more than three years is too long!"

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) Reagan after leaving office went and gave a little speech in Japan for US$3,000,000. Carter went and built homes and championed for human rights around the globe. I am forgetting, and it's late, what did Carter earn a Nobel prize for? I guess that broght disrespect to the office. Bush would kill her in a debate, so why would he be afraid? Why would he be chicken? YASNY, worse in your lifetime? Worse than Ford? Nixon? Nixon and Ford had a variety of achievements. Nixon's one shortcoming was that he was a sack of s*** as a human being. Not that his policies were particularly wrong. Ford, for his own sake, was very good with the Soviets.

Williams had better be on the phone right now trying to pry him away but I'm pretty sure that we won't be able to get it done.
-
Sorry, but he is.

Why do the Jays want to trade Rios?
-
I'm not sure they're the best -- although I don't dismiss it -- but I'm more than happy and willing to say that the White Sox put up the most dominant playoff run ever. The numbers, the situations, speak for themselves.
-
Dersh is terrible, too, but Carter is a chicken and an incompetent and a serious case to be made for "Worst President Ever."

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) Apparently, Carter agrees with you. You know Jimmy Carter pardoned the Puerto Rican "nationalists" who tried to kill Truman, as well as the ones who fired off machine guns in the House of Representatives in the Fifties, on the grounds that they were "political prisoners" (and to gain PR votes? He wouldn't agree with me unless I were a terrorist or telling him that it be a good idea to invade Iran with half a dozen helicopters.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) All the more reason Carter should smoke his ass in a debate. Jimmy Carter couldn't smoke a ham to save Christmas.

ARod to retire after 2010 season???
Gregory Pratt replied to sayitaintso's topic in The Diamond Club
I think it be a shame for him to retire. I want him to play and take over the homerun record. Better A-Rod than Bonds, and I fully expect Bonds to take it next year. I can't necessarily blame him for retiring, but I wish he'd stick around longer than 2010. -
I felt terrible for Bagwell when Jenks overpowered him in the Series. That strikeout will always be one of the three images to come to mind when I think of the Series, next to Freddy and AJ when Garcia got out of his bases loaded jam and the image of everyone jumping together. Oh, and Bagwell: fine player, too. I wish him the best and a lovely plaque in Cooperstown.

Ross Gload Traded For Andrew Sisco
Gregory Pratt replied to Ozzie's Accent's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good bye, Ross Gload. I already miss him. Sisco should be in AAA starting. -
I'll bet Oakland winds up trading away, oh, Harden or Haren to the Mets and we don't get anything.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) Meanwhile you have half of this board crying like Yankees fans about being poor on a $100 million payroll. I can't speak for anyone else but the thing that bothers me is the KW quotes and the Cowley story that suggest/say that the Sox won't resign any of our pitchers (ie Buehrle) for being too expensive. That is cheap.
-
Let's give Buehrle to St. Louis for Pujols Wainright and Eckstein. Oh, they can have Broadway, too.

Interesting John Rocker article....
Gregory Pratt replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in The Diamond Club
John Rocker is such an idiot. Besides, I've always admired Jeff Pearlman. -
SD Senator suffers brain hemmorhage.
Gregory Pratt replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
I would imagine that Republicans and Democrats are doing some nasty things right now. Nothing like a political death to bring out the wolf in politicians and Washingtonians. I think that Johnson's condition is worse than announced (usually is in cases like this), that Democrats are pressuring him to keep his seat until death or recovery, and that Republicans are already lining up the attack ads a potential replacement. Like when Wellstone died. But ten times worse, on all sides. -
What, exactly, was the SI-Clemens-SoxTalk controversy? Eh, I found out. Wow. I'd point out that there's quite a difference, though, in saying that "I don't need proof to KNOW" and "THE REPORT'S COMING!"
-
I would imagine it unlikely that Sports Illustrated will run a report about Milkman posting that he doesn't need a needle to prove to him that Gagne is a juicer.
-
AJ will need more rest than he's been getting or we'll kill his career. That's why it's imperative to get a quality backup.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 07:54 AM) I wonder how soon until this ends up in SI, I mean I don't need a needle sticking out of his ass or anything... Look how much smaller he was as a rookie, and the strange injuries... etc See how easy that is? Now the rumor is out there, and maybe we can ruin the guys life, career, reputation, hall of fame chances etc. All over some self-satisifying conjecture... A little overblown, don't you think? No less overblown than Milkman's comments about steroids, IMO. Though I do get your point. Kind of. Disagree with it, though.

Journey songs, Quiet Riot and Aqua.

Tessie, by the Dropkick Murphys. Especially the girl in the video, since we're talking a lot of music. "Electric Pussy Boogey" is a lame but excellent music video/song. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=zCNhFHz6nvo) And, ah, drinking hot sauce.
