My best friend is a Mariner fan/Cub fan and he still adores Freddy Garcia, re: Garcia's popularity with Mariner fans. I don't think Seattle has s*** for us unless it's Ichiro, and Ichiro ain't moving.

Carville's senile now, but back in the day, he was an excellent political consultant. Not a good man, but you don't pay him to be. He was never as bad as Rove, though. See: Illinois Treasurer + Teenage Karl Rove.

Pujols says MVP should be on playoff team
Gregory Pratt replied to sox4lifeinPA's topic in The Diamond Club
I've never liked the, "Has to come from a playoff team" nonsense. It's not a player's fault that the rest of his team absolutely sucks. -
Gload wants to stay here because he likes it here. A noble concept.

http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/nick94.htm The last three IMs were ze best.

Ross Gload could be a .300 hitter given a full season. As Sox Machine put it, that man can roll out of bed and come out hitting.

I am, for the most part, staying out of the debates. I'll jump in here and there, maybe, but I've got my own campaign plan and debating isn't high on my list. -
QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) Let's clarify. If by human violence you mean human struggles and disagreements and hatred and a want to be the most powerful at any cost, then yes, that is a natural trait in humans and is our nature. The ultimate end is to survive, so any threat to your survival will have a 'violent' response. Thats what I thought you were referencing, so I apologize for not reading your post as closesly as I should have if that's not the case. But to assume that a guy with so much hatred in his history (and recent history...like weeks old recent history) could magically change his stance and become an advocate of justice is laughable. Peoples can change once their position in life is altered. However people with deep rooted vendettas, who see the current landscape as a holy war, as a battle between fundamental enemies opposed to each other, will never change their ways. That has been proven over and over again throughout history, most especially when dealing with religion. You can hope all you want, just as you can hope tomorrow we'll wake up with no crime, but it's never going to happen. As to what we will do, yes, we'll choose war over peace when pushed into a corner, as would every country, unless your name is France, in which case you roll over and beg for mercy. They beg for cheese, more like..... (KIDDING) I'm with you all the way.

I think it's absolutely laughable to take this letter as anything more than diplomatic posturing.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) It's pure hypocrisy. "We all condemn terrorism"...even though we fund Hezbollah. "Our nation has always extended its hand of friendship to all other nations of the world"...except Israel, which we want destroyed. "It is possible to sincerely serve and promote common human values, and honesty and compassion"...but we exclude Israelis, cuz they're not really humans. It's not even that he's a nutjob, it's that the speech is mere dissembling. That's not laudable in ANY sense. It's right to scoff when the whole point of a speech or letter is to get people to approve of you by concealing your true intentions. f*** him. You're completely insane if you think this is some radical self-rediscovery. It's bs posturing.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) Here is another nutjob, a bit before most of our time. He made similiar wonderful nice speeches about being friends of his neighbor, and how he wanted peace. Very similiar to what the Iranian nutjob is doing right now. Good job. -- So the son of a b**** knows how to write a nice letter. He's a phony man, a liar and a future War criminal, if the War allows it.

Dem. Rangel Calling for Military Draft

To be fair, John Bolton is more into forcing his wife to engage in group sex and chasing her from the house in fits of rage than molesting children. (re: the former Mrs. Bolton's divorce papers.) -
From Bob Feller: "Everybody knows it's coming. Some people would be upset (if McGwire is elected). I obviously wouldn't like it. That would be very damaging to the Hall of Fame." From Ryne Sandberg: "I'm interested to see how the writers will vote. They have a chance to make a point that needs to be made about what [the Hall] represents. They are supposed to consider integrity and character (as criteria for judging a player's worthiness). I hope they do that." Recently Frank Robinson, former manager and Hall of Famer, spoke out about McGwire and others to reporters in Cincinnati. Ironically, Robinson sits just three home runs ahead of McGwire on the all-time list. Adding fuel to the fire, Robinson had this conversation with a reporter. "Why aren't you voting for McGwire?" Robinson asked. "Steroids," the writer answered. "McGwire admitted he was taking andro back in the 1990s. It's the same thing as steroids - the steroids he won't admit to taking. Andro turned McGwire into something he wasn't created to be." "That's exactly right," said Robinson. "Who else?" "I'm not going to vote for (Sammy) Sosa after that, or (Barry) Bonds after that," the writer said. "Good, good," said Robinson, nodding. A woman standing nearby chimed in: "Once it's proven they were on steroids, their records should be stricken." "I've heard you agree with that," the writer said to Robinson. "I do," Robinson said. "Why should baseball have to try to prove when (these sluggers) started using (steroids)? They used 'em, and they knew they were wrong."

A little. Believe it or not, that was the first thing I thought of reading it but overall, I don't believe the Imams. Not at all.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) In the 1988 ALCS, the fans in Boston were chanting "Steroids" at Canseco when he came up to the plate after at least one article appeared that year suggesting he was juicing. He was. Innocent until they test positive.

Mark McGwire May 1992 Reportedly Used: Steroids (Winstrol, Testosterone, Equipose) The Story: During an FBI investigation codenamed ‘Operation Equine’ in 1992, officers turned up steroid dealer, Curtis Wenslaff. Wenzlaff's training-session notes show he put McGwire on a mix of Winstrol V, testosterone and Equipoise. In Juiced, Jose Canseco claims to have personally injected McGwire with steroids. McGwire admitted using the Androstenedione found in his locker but it was not banned by MLB nor an illegal substance at the time. Good site: http://thesteroidera.blogspot.com/2006/08/...#wilson_alvarez (I was specifically looking at Wilson Alvarez because I'd read about his steroids, did a google search for Wilson Alvarez + Steroids, and found this site and page.) Mark McGwire was juicing in 1992? Jesus Christ. Wouldn't surprise me that he'd juice, but I wasn't aware that people had started before the mid-90s, too. Oh my, people were juicing in the seventies. See Tom House.

SoxTalk Election Endorsement Thread

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) I think I missed something. Is there a thread explaining why there's an election going on in the first place? Because excellent people like you are in need of fine representation on SoxTalk. -
I too believe that Tim Raines is a first-ballot HOFer.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Young, cheap arms with high ceilings. How many of them come around in baseball. They come in all the time with other teams. Hell, even we find good arms sometimes. -
Well, I apologize if SoxBadger was offended but I wasn't trying to call him out. He's said in the past that he believes Bonds is clean and I was simply pointing out why he wouldn't mind Bonds to the other person who replied to him. SoxBadger: if you were offended, I'm sorry, though I don't believe there's any animus between us or anything.

There's only one reason to pick Scott Boras and it's because you want some GM to break his piggy bank for you. I'm not begging KW to get rid of Crede but if he does, I won't blame him, provided we get a sweet deal out of it.
