  1. I've always thought it was strange that the Diamondbacks would insist on anything or be in a position to insist on anything since Vazquez had demanded a trade. I always wondered why we didn't just say, "Take BA." I gave KW the benefit of the doubt that, hey, they saw the huge holes in his stance and swing as soon as they scouted him, like I did and many others here did. His swing was long for failure from the beginning. And yet, I always wondered, Maybe we didn't want to give up BA. And that's it? That's really it? The scouts and KW wanted BA over Young? Oh, my God. That's disheartening. I already believed this organization's competence laughable. And now this? They wanted Anderson and we said, "Take Young"? Because KW liked BA in Arizona? Thank God I'm on my way out to a party.
  2. I and others here have heard stories of Shines NOT being liked by the minor league guys and the young players. fathom has heard the opposite, starting with Sean Tracey. I don't know -- I don't have sympathy for Tracey, for one, and I don't care if Shines got along with our minor leaguers.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) Nope, not at all. KW definitely wanted to acquire him last offseason. However, it really would be pointless, as we already have Pierre Jr. out there. Yeah, I don't want either. I can just see Coletti trying to pawn Pierre off on us, though, instead of Furcal.
  4. Yeah, but it's not something I'd put out of the realm of possibility.
  5. Would be kind of funny if we dealt for Pierre, not Furcal.
  6. Garrett Anderson should be ashamed of himself.
  7. Is Clemens pitching this series? Is he done for the year? I can't believe I'm not aware of his status.
  8. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) you're 100% ridiculous... I'm just happy you don't have a YouTube video to go with that. Or surprised, more like.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) And the irony is Carter would argue for Pratt's rights to make those comments. There is no irony there. I'd argue for his and other people's rights to make their comments, too. Sorry. And I have no apologies to make for asking someone to explain where they got a number.
  10. Alex Rodriguez really is a choke artist.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) I can't believe that ball Peralta hit didn't leave, some bad luck there, however I believe the run Cleveland DID get was bug aided, so it evens out. I've never seen a bug delay before this game I do not believe, what a classic so far. World Series games in the snow Canadian Soldiers What a funny place Cleveland baseball is
  12. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) Bottom of the 8th, the Indians had a runner on second. Chip referred to the runner as the "winning run", despite the fact that the Yankees would bat in the 9th. Top of the 9th, the Yankees have a runner on second. Chip referred to the runner as the "winning run", despite the fact that the Indians would bat in the bottom of the 9th. Chip Caray is stupid. I like Chip Caray a lot. I noticed that too. Hey, it happens. Hope someone tells him to knock it off, though.
  13. Let's go Indians! What a crazy bunch of bugs. Two separate thoughts They are two separate thoughts Two separate thoughts
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) I honestly think you might kill yourself if the Cubs ever win it all. Harris survived the Bears losing the Super Bowl. I think fathom could survive the Cubs. I don't know how he'd do it, but seems like he would.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 02:11 PM) 178 games .237 .295 .467 .763 32 hr 68 rbi 85 runs 29 2B 100 games .244 .308 .480 .788 23 hr 67 RBI 54 runs 17 2B One of them is batting lead off for AZ. The other played 3B and LF for us this year It's a good point, and well-made. I don't know who I like better going into the future. Probably Young, since he can play D and I don't have doubts about him + inside fastballs, but I like Fields a lot, too.
  16. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) every issue seemed to have at least one article about how evil Germany is and how they are planning their grand comeback to destroy everyone it's a kooky, anti-Catholic, anti-Germany, anti-American rag. and every issue had like twenty plugs for the owner's "pamphlets" that "explain more."
  17. Last night, I made the call to a friend, after the runs started piling -- "AND THE ROUT IS ON IN CLEVELAND!" which was a modification of a call from the 1996 World Series, I believe (Yankees/Braves) where the Braves absolutely obliterated Andy Pettitte in Game 1. Let's do it again, Cleveland!
  18. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) lol. they are wacko, but i like reading stuff like that. i also roll over to 'dailykos' now and then, mainly for the same reasons i would read 'The Trumpet' I have no use for places like Kos and freerepublic. But I used to get a big kick out of the Trumpet's nonsense just because it was nice to step off the train and get a free magazine and read it and it was always, "Oh, the Germans are The Holy Roman Empire" (remember that? always, "Oh, it's the Holy Roman Empire II," every issue) and "ECONOMIC COLLAPSE IMMINENT!!!!!!!!" Fun paper. Not so good for legitimate insight.
  19. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) oh wow, i haven't heard about 'The Trumpet' in years. i've read their articles before. Do you enjoy the Trumpet/
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) Do you argue just to argue, or does it make you feel good about yourself? Anytime a percentage is cited, without a source, it should be questioned.
  21. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) I really liked the Indian fan who had the sign "Not in my Teepee." I didn't like the biceps on that Indian logo. Just like I don't like the big juiced up Blue Jay bird. I remember the Blue Jays when their logo was that little bird -- the 1993/1994 Blue Jays logo. But it shows us what the game thinks about steroid use, and the fans.
  22. Well, in Carter's defense, the people don't know how to rank Presidents, generally, and they're a little unfair to him because they thought Reagan had a nicer smile.
  23. Yeah, I didn't believe in the Tigers last year. They very much overachieved and now their team is coming back to earth.
