First thing i would do if i was KW in the offseason is the following. Buy out Dye and offer ARB, chances are he turns it down and goes for one more multi year deal before calling it a career and if not no Harm no Foul. Off ARB to Dotel, the market for relivers this year looks to be thin, if he accepts we keep depth in our bullpen and if not we get potential picks. Sign Jim Thome to a one year deal with a club option for '11 4m for each year with incentives to make it up to 12m with a 500 or 800k buy out If Dye Declines and Bobby Abreu hits the market offer him a two year deal similar to Thomes, If Dye declines and Abreu isn't available offer podsednik a 1 year deal as a stop gap for Danks/Mitchell. Keep AJ and Jenks unless you can get a good return on them. Ideal Line up. 2010 2011 2012 L Abreu LF/RF L Getz 2B L Getz OF R Rios CF R Rios CF R Rios OF R Beckham 3B R Beckham 3B R Beckham 3B R Quentin RF/LF R Quentin RF/LF R Quentin DH L Thome DH L Abreu DH L Danks OF R Konerko 1B R Flowers C R Flowers C L Pierzynski C R Viciedo 1B R Viciedo 1B R Ramirez SS R Ramirez SS R Ramirez SS L Getz 2B L Danks RF/LF L Mitchell OF SP Buehrle SP Peavy SP Floyd SP Danks SP Hudson CL Jenks SU Thornton SU Pena MR Linebrink MR Nunez/Torres LO ? horrible base running.....awful. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Does this make Jor Danks trade bait this offseason? No, you don't want to piss off D1! and mitchell while awesome is still raw. D2 is going to have to work on his contact rate and come out of this nose dive hes been in. But now with rios in hand i see KW signing Scott to a one year deal as a stop gap to Danks. Our late 2010/2011 core is scary good, obviously not all will make it and some will bust; but in the words of KW we are here to Dream. DH - Thome (last year of his contract) C - Flowers 1B - Viciedo 2B - Getz SS - Ramirez 3B - Beckham LF - Quentin CF - Rios RF - Danks SP Buehrle SP Peavy SP Floyd SP Danks SP Hudson CL Jenks? SU Thornton SU Pena MR Linebrink MR Nunez LR Carasco sick!

If all it takes is CJ, than kudos to our scouting department. I would be willing to go CJ + Kyle for Rios -

Because flowers is hitting a robust .300/.333/.450 .783 at AAA and .302/.426/.529 .956 across two levels. AJ is making $6.25M for next year in 2010. AJ should be able to bring us a couple of nice looking prospects and that 6.25 could be better spent when you have a cheap opition at catcher that is just about ML ready. -

I wouldn't mind seeing AJ back on the south side next year; his contract is very manageable and he only has one year left, but you've got a very good looking catching prospect in flowers down at AAA waiting for his chance and AJ is having the second best year in his career directly behind '03 when he put up this line .312/.360/.464 .824 as a 26 year old, he is now 32 years old, if you can get good value for him you move him, simple as that. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) If Danks/Mitchell aren't ready I'd sign Pods for a 1 year deal. Even if they're ready I'd like to keep him in as the 4th OF/Pinch runner. Sorry i didn't make this clear, im thinking of the lineup of late 2010 and beyond. I don't think Dayan will be ready to start next year and even if he was the sox brass are going to let Konerko ride out next year all the while seeing what we have in Flowers/Viciedo/Danks/Morel the way flowers has hit in the minors this year along with another trip through the AFL i could see the sox moving AJ to a team like the rays or brewers who could be looking to bolster their catching position. I think the sox bring back Thome because we need a LH power bat, hes going to come at a cheaper price because hes limited to DHing and he wants to play close to home, and the sox would like to see him reach #600 in their uniform. I could see them bringing back Pods on a one year deal if figgins is out of reach, and just as a stop gap for Danks/Mitchell -

I can only hope, the sox would be set moving forward for the next four years with our rotation and around the diamond and our bullpen looks to be slightly above average. If we need to move salary in the off season we've got Jenks and AJ both whom could bring back a few good looking prospects. our core going forward would be set DH - Thome C - Flowers 1B - Viciedo 2B - Getz SS - Ramirez 3B - Beckham LF - Quentin CF - Rios RF - Danks/Mitchell
