How is Marlins trade different from what the cubs are doing?
beautox replied to 59th street's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (MAX @ Nov 25, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) I wouldn't be too surprised to see the new marlins team out perform last years team, or the team contend two or three years from now, so I am not going to condemn Loria for what he did or pretend I know what motivates him. The fact is, they are a highly successful franchise when it comes to winning it all and overcome major shortcomings to do so. Once while loria was the owner. I agree as a marlins fan myself i truly hate Loria from a fandom stand point; but his scouts and front office consistently overcome the obstacles Jeffery throws at them. Having said that I expect them to move the following this offseason Stanton, Nolasco and Escobar. I imagine they will wait for Morrison, Coghlan and Sanchez to re-establish their value before they move them midseason and rebuilding once again. Having said that i fully expect them to get a haul for Stanton; honestly i would love to see him dealt to texas for profar, olt and martin. -
After this move for Liriano; I would love for KW to see if Utley is available and move the likes of beckham and morel and a live arm for utley; yes hes a injury risk but push for this year and 2013 with peavy, youk and him. Accept the rebuild for 2014 if all else fails. We would be on the hook for 15m next year and the remainder of his contract this year.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
beautox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 07:33 PM) http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=15469 RF probably with Viciedo in LF...he's more athletic by far (50 inch vertical) but still not a true CFer. Best hitting prospect in Cuba of his generation...perhaps the best since Omar Linares. Definitely more "can't miss" than Viciedo and Alexei Ramirez were described when they came out, although the frenzy over Cespedes is closer to what happened with Viciedo (an open bidding war) than with the unheralded/underappreciated Ramirez. Sox getting him? Makes a ton of sense...especially if we eventually trade Konerko and stick Dayan at 1B. For 2012, he would cut into the playing time of DeAza, Viciedo and/or Dunn. But he is projected to start in High A ball or AA (or advanced to AA after 6-8 weeks getting his feet wet and growing confidence) and make an impact in the majors in August/September at the earliest. We were pretty aggressive thinking Viciedo might be ready (because of the price tag) coming into 2009 or 2010 and clearly that wasn't the case. But we're talking about the best player in Cuba, along with Gourriel at SS. Honestly I would love to see the sox move pk and aj to south beach opening up first to acquire morales and a spec for the likes of thornton. Lets make the continue to make the south side of chicago a prime destination for cuban defectors. -
I'm a huge fan of this; now that kw has openly stated a rebuild we have no need for a closer. I feel this was a fair trade molina could very well end up being a top of the rotation starter and we have reed in the wings. I look for KW to move everyone sans dunn and rios as they try to re-establish value during this season. I just hope they do this rebuild right burn it down and lock up are young core ala the indians and rays.

Thanks! I'm now 26 i feel everything that could be had out of getting older has now been given to me.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) With the additions of De Aza, Flowers, and Viciedo seemingly injecting some life into this team, the possibility certainly exists. Agreed i just hope its not too little too late.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) He's been easily the best player at his position to this point. It's hard to believe he's only 27. If he keeps this up all year (no reason he shouldn't, as talent has never been an issue), there most definitely will be a team(s) out there willing to sign a superstar SS in his prime to a similar deal. They won't care about one injury plagued year. Honestly i think the dark horse in all of this is the royals for signing him in the offseason, here is a great example why previously for carl crawford royals are getting their lumps in this year and are few pieces away from making lots of noise in the central

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) Lackey contract=fail Agreed; Honestly I much prefer both the Jays and Rays to the yankees and redsox for the ALE and WC. The jays pitching is serious business and they've got a good line-up.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) My god, all Viciedo does is hit! FREE VICIEDO! Does anyone feel because of the brown situation in Philly, CQ gets traded?

to add to that mlbnetwork's facebook page is asking for question today for ozzie

I personally feel that the Rays and Jays will be sitting atop the east when the season ends. I'm not confident in Boston's rotation as both the rays and jays have supeior pitching and depth. I seriously feel unless cashman Hal burns through the yankee's farm system for some legit pitching, it won't matter who they hand the games over to in the 7-9th.
