QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) I remember a post in the first Cubs game thread was "Gordon's Last Stand", where if he sucked he was getting sent down. He's been on fire since. Since June 11th .298/.341/.510 .850

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) I LOVE the "youth is served" crap they are trying to use to generate interest. Guess what, your youth really isnt that good. I wouldn't say that their youth is crap; They're looking really strong up the diamond for years to come Soto - he is a top 5 catcher in baseball that just needs to stay healthy. Castro - he has the potential to establish himself as a top 5 SS in all of baseball; has some defensive warts like Hanley but he is still really young. Dewitt - at his floor he is a league average second basemen with above average defense at 3B that needs some work at the keystone, his upside is what he has produced up this point with the cubs .310/.370/.429 with the ability to possibly tack on some more slugging; he very well could turn into the left handed hitting pedroia. Colvin - i see Ruben sierra from him, if he can control the zone hes dangerous but i think he has sweeping peaks and valleys over the course of his career. that from a position player perspective is incredibly strong up the middle, and they have a couple of good looking prospects in both Jay and Brett Jackson, a very good looking back end of the bullpen to shut the door as well in Marmol. Their pitching in that division looks to be third rate but that might be more than enough going forward, they might have found something in Diamond as he continues to recover from his ankle and TJS. Dempster, Wells, Gorz, Jackson and Diamond, could be more than enough going forward for a central crown in '11.

Carlos Santana nailed at the plate; it doesn't look good.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 01:52 AM) Pedro Guerrero. That isn't a bad comp, provided Dayan can learn to take a pitch; and doesn't develop a coke problem. Pedro was a more patient hitter through out the minors but he also had time to really develop at AAA.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:21 AM) there is a more attractive option that is in the works. a name that nobody has rumored about. its a long shot but we are trying to make it happen. stay tuned and cross your fingers!! I'm going to go out on a limb and say Carlos Beltran hes probably has about 8mil remaining this year and 18.5M next. the mets are 6.5 out of the WC and 7.5 out of the East.

I wonder if something like Lillibridge, Gilmore and Griffith would be enough to land him.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Castro should be starting until his play suggests differently. Agreed, Ozzie needs to play the hot hand here.

I will say that I am very grateful for his defense he has provided at the hot corner, and his .761 OPS since Teahen went down. But I'm with chw42 in that slightly below average looks light years better than the butcher he replaced.
-
good lord people, i'm simply talking about this year at 3B not his career.
-
competent, was too harsh, a tick below average.

Berkman since June 1st .259/.385/.465 .850 OPS and he even has 3 SB over that stretch, for July hes batting .233/.404/.521 .925 OPS. In June he was sporting an above average wOBA of .357 for July .392 inching closer to his career mark of .405. Lance is also holding it down with the glove 2.7 UZR. For a little comparison Dunn since June 1st .276/.345/.558 .903 OPS, for July .278/.363/.557 .920 OPS. His June wOBA .370, July wOBA .391. Adam is slightly below average with his glove -0.6. for some perspective Konerko has been a -6.8 UZR at 1B. Honestly the way this trade deadline has looked thus far, it appears most teams are still suffering some fiscal hardships, ideally Berkman could be had with some cash in hand from the astros for some mid level prospects of the non Hudson, Viciedo, Flowers, Morel variety. And if that doesn't work hold off and make the stretch run with what we have currently on our roster. Put Teahen in RF TL;DR Quentin = DYE in RF. Also teahen was putting up this line in the 10 games before he hit the DL .364/.389/.545 with 4 extra base hits. If the sox do that we improve our outfield defense, and can hope to keep CQ healthy for the stretch run, while actually having a slightly below competent defender at 3B (Vizquel).
-
I would prefer the sox put Teahen in RF and DH Quentin. Quentin is nearing Dye territory out there. For Marks career in RF he has a -2 UZR vs. Quentin's -16 for the year; for Quentin's career he owns a -6.9 UZR in RF. In one simple move we would improve our collective OF defense and ozzie could use Jones as a defensive specialist out there. Also ideally it would keep CQ healthier.

good attempt by Viciedo

filth, gavin looks crisp

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 02:09 AM) My "plan" for next year is as follows... Konerko becomes a FA. Viciedo moves to 1B. Morel takes over 3B. Quentin becomes our DH. This leaves an OF spot open for Kenny to sign a FA (Crawford would be awesome), or he can try and trade Teahen somewhere in hopes of getting an OF in return. LF Pierre RF Crawford CF Rios DH Quentin 1B Viciedo 2B Beckham C Flowers/AJ/??? SS Alexei 3B Morel That would be pretty fine w/ me. that would also be pretty fine by me. I wouldn't mind seeing what it would take to get Doumit as well.

nice bunt by che
-
I really don't want to see morel traded. The idea of an all homegrown infield next year excites me.
