Alright, this is the day we've all been waiting for since last October. Kenny has "retooled" this team again, lets see what happens. To the '08 White Sox.. -

"We always laughed," Jami says. "At the end of the day you're with your best friend. That's what Joe is to me -- my best friend." She was lucky. Very sad. -

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) The thing is, fans are known for getting emotional about the underachieving guy that's been around for awhile, and hating him a little extra for that. And wanting him out sooner in favor of lesser options. I mean, someone else suggested Marcus Giles, and I'll personally take the pop in Uribe's bat over that. He underachieved when we won the title, which leads me to think that we're going to win or not win this year as a result of something having little to do with Uribe in particular. That could very well be true. But I'd still rather play the odds and go with the best possible team on paper, and then make adjustments from there. And, in my mind, going with an unproven player (Ramirez, Richar) over someone like Uribe who has consistently done bad is the better choice. Obviously, some here disagree.

QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) I love reading about that team, Frank especially. He was a man among boys in his prime. I can't wait to see him get into the Hall wearing a Sox hat. True or false: Frank Thomas has had one year in his entire career in which his OPS+ was sub-100? Here's a hint, its not false What a stud.

QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) Him and Griffey, yeah. I was obsessed with them as a kid. 1994 really did a lot of damage to me as a baseball fan and I never really fully recovered until 2005. I didn't really follow baseball (since I was only 6) but I definitely followed Thomas. I always wore his number and wanted to be just like him.

QUOTE(max power @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Eh, they had about the same avg and OBP. Uribe had a lot more power. Interesting to say though, in 7 seasons juan has about 100 more strikeouts than ozzie did in his 16 year career. Wow, keep up the good work Juan!

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) I was thinking... if we aren't competitors this year, and the possibility for a world series isn't looking so great in 2009, does Thome ask for a trade to a team ready to make a push? Truly, I don't think so. He's near the end of his career and I think he'll want to stick around his home-area. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the impression that I get.
-
QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) Gotcha. You have some history to back you up on that, no doubt. I think one thing that unites us as humans, however, is the ability to tire of Juan Uribe at bats. And Ozzie is only human. So true.. he is one of the worst hitters I've seen in my few years watching baseball. Although, wasn't Ozzie also one of the worst? I remember reading a list somewhere that had him in the lower 25 of hitters all-time (along with Uribe). Maybe Ozzie feels for him...

QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) keeping that average over 162 games.... 54 hrs (at the time it happened , would have been 6th best single season total of all time) 144 RBis 151 runs 156 Walks (at the time it happened , would have been tied for the 4th best single season total of all time) Thats why I idolized this guy growing up. Seriously, he was insane.

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) So if Richar were a-ok this spring, in all ways, you dont think he wouldve been front-runner? No, I think Richar would have been the front-runner. I'm just saying once Ozzie gets in a certain mind-state, he doesn't change it. If hes going to go with Uribe, he's going to stick with Uribe. Just like he stuck with Mack in CF, Widger at C, etc. etc. etc.
-
QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) classy. I have never claimed to be classy... it's not my style when it comes to baseball. But I'm sorry, I just want to see the best team on the field at any given time, so we have our best shot at winning. I feel BA provides this chance.
-
QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) I suppose I walked right into that one. But really I dont at all see Uribe being a personal favorite of either. Richar will get every opportunity when healthy. Unless Uribe's unbelievable coming out, and even then Richar will get a chance eventually unless we're winning. I want to believe that, but I just can't. I firmly believe Ozzie is one of the most stubborn managers in all of baseball right now. This is the same guy who used Mackowiak in CF, that played Gonzalez, that played Widger way too long, that played Cintron out of position during 2006, that caused a mess of a situation with the bean ball, and all those other things with mismanaging the bullpen last year and the year before. I just don't see anything that says Richar will get his spot if he gets healthy or Uribe continues his regular-seson suckfest. Please, Ozzie, prove me wrong.
-
QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) Richar is younger, under contract for awhile, and has already had a higher OBP than either of Uribe's last two years. Why are we to believe he wont take the starting 2b job when he's back? Because it's Ozzie and Kenny we're talking about.
-
I wish it was true, but we all know Uribe is our starting second basemen for the long hall. Only chance he's gone is if we're out of it by July and he's batting a very un-Uribe like average or sports an increased OBP.
-
I feel bad for Buehrle. He's gonna have an ugly W-L record this year with Crede/Uribe/Owens on this team. Now, I know W-L is absolutely meaningless, but if he ends up 10-14 to match a 3.60 ERA, I'll be extremely pissed.
