Which AL Central lineup to you fear more?
max power replied to Steve9347's topic in The Diamond Club
Lineup- tigers. Team- indians. -
I am too afraid that ozzie would fall in love with Mench or Gonzales as he did in '07 with erstad, and further stunt the growth of the alternatives.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) There are very big question marks in 3 or 4 spots in the rotation, the entire bullpen outside of Jenks and maybe Linebrink, and about half the lineup. Combine that with the fact that this team was lucky to only lose 90 games last season AND the two best teams in the division upgraded, things don't look so rosy to some people. I can understand why someone would have a negative outlook on the teams chances. There is a huge difference between that and not even giving the team a chance. Also-The off season isn't over. We haven't played a single game, not even spring training.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) Please no one say it's still early. Who is still out there? KW has f'd this thing up royally. How many years in mid-April when the Sox were in the midst of a losing streak did I hear it's early? Or mid-May, or mid-June. Every day matters. KW has some serious explaining to do. We're out of the race in December. KW should be embarassed. The race hasn't started yet, yet were out of it? I really don't understand the mentality of well over half of this board. Are people really this negative? Why?

Right but he wants to be a closer, so I doubt he would have signed here. Even at linebrink's price.
-
I see that comment meaning compete as we will be competing, as everyone in the division will be competing. You people like to read into his comments to make them seem ridiculous. The same happened when he spoke of Danks and Floyd. He was likely speaking of their potential to be top level starters.
-
He asked to be released because he wasn't getting consistent playing time according to what I read.
-
I fully expect that japanese closer the indians added to be their best reliever. They boosts their BP big time.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:37 PM) 60-80 current and former players are supposed to be named with a large portion of them having Mets ties. That's a lot of people. I change my vote to 2 sox.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) i think you are naive to believe that no sox will be on it... (or at least naive to believe no sox have used, whether they got caught by the mitchell report is another thing) but we will see tomorrow, i could be wrong and end up with my foot in my mouth, but well see tomorrow Aren't there 12 people on the list? I just went with the odds. I'm certainly not naive, though I could be completely wrong about how many people are on it. I thought I read that somewhere here.

No thanks. He can't stay healthy. I make fun of the cubs for thinking he will, it would be stupid of me to do the same.
-
I think the tigers will win 86 games next year.
-
An owens/anderson platoon would be fine with me. I would love watching these sox, even if they lost 90 games, to see them progress. I bet they would shock a lot of people and be in the wild card mix.

QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Hopefully Garland and Rowand are on the list. I bet Uribe and Thorton are on the list too. I wouldn't go hoping for rowand at this point. We still might sign him.
-
lol paulie? I highly doubt it. Who is the one guy you don't want to be on there? Thome? My guess is zero but maybe some pitcher.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:13 AM) You know, I like Detroit's team as much as anyone, but have people forgotten that the Indians were 1 game away from the World Series last year and won 96 games with Travis Hafner putting up an .836 OPS? Or are they just completely writing off a Cy Young winner, improved bullpen, and an offense that scored 811 runs last year (and is bound to improve)? No matter how "sexy" that Detroit lineup is - and it is very possibly the "sexiest" lineup of any in baseball - I still think the Indians have to be the favorite, don't they? Everyone keeps comparing the Sox to the Tigers, but ultimately, it may not matter if the Sox finish ahead of the Tigers if the Indians roll to another division win. I think detroit will miss the playoffs this year or at best lose in the ALCS. Their rotation sucks. I'm tired of talking about it though.

You're the GM. Firesale is the plan.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 08:02 AM) You're God Damn right I'm not happy. If I could get my money back right now, I would. I just bought a new house and have higher expenses, and the $4000 I spent could come in handy. This off-season is a joke, and fuki-f***y signing with the Cubs, is just a big kick in my balls. Why don't you sell the rights to your seats then? Where are they? I'm interested. -
Kenny not worried about Danks & Floyd as #4 & 5
max power replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Floyd pitched 170 some innings last year and looked dominant at the end of the year. I'm not worried about him tiring. I think he is going to shock a lot of people and have himself a good year. As for Danks, I agree. I don't see him pitching that many innings for whatever reason. -

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 11:35 AM) All three of those back end guys make me nervous. As people are saying, chances are, 1 or 2 of them will flop. Also though, chances are, 1 of them will probably do quite well. Then there is the outside chance that all 3 flop, or all 3 succeed, but neither of those scenarios is likely. So since everyone is discussing who will do badly... anyone want to guess who is most likely of those three to have a good season? I think its floyd, sadly. Danks will be over pitched, I have no faith in him pitching well after the first 140 innings. Count lost what little momentum he gained in his last two starts, plus he has back issues. If I knew he were fully recovered from injury I would say count, no doubt. Assuming he is still hurting, floyd. He pitched well. I hope that momentum stays. Really though, I think they will all be mediocre. Era about 4.5. -

Either they perform reasonably well or they don't. They are all question marks to some degree, even vazquez and buehrle. They all have some talent. We shall see. -

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) I am not writing anyone off. All I am asking for is for Kenny not to say anything....I am fine with the moves and the direction we are going with the pitching staff. I hate to give anything to the Chi media, who love to hate on the Sox when they do not meet what was considered to be an expectation. The media sticks a mic in his mouth at every opportunity. He is going to say something positive instead of negative or objective. -

I think he is talking about their potential and this is being over blown here, like everything kenny does and says. -
That would infuriate me. I'd become almost as pessimistic as the average board poster.
-
I see the confusion. When I said below, I meant below avg in ERA.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) When people say favorites, I look at championships, not division titles. I'd say Detroit would handle Cleveland pretty easily. I think you are even more wrong in the playoffs. How is a team with a rotation as crappy as Detroit's going to handle a 7 game series with Cleveland? Good hitting gets shut down by good pitching in the playoffs more often than not.
