  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) All KW's fans will always mention 2005. The White Sox were 52-22 in the division that year. Its hard to see that happening again anytime soon. Even in 2005 they were .500 against the East and West. What was our record against the central last year?
  2. Dontrelle willis is a good SP? Personally, I don't think so. He struggled badly in the NL, last year, now he is coming to the AL. I expect him to be mediocre at best.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) So according to the Dick Allen school of statistics... looking at Anderson's 2 strong months and ignoring his 3 bad ones is OK, but looking at Owens' 2 good months over his 2 bad ones is not? And for the record, I don't think you give up on Anderson talent-wise. I think he needs to show some respect for the game, and for the fact that he'll actually need to work at it to be good at this level. If he can do that, then sure, give him a shot if/when he's the right guy for the job. My problem with that is it doesn't make owens seem like a better choice unless he somehow got a competant arm.
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) Can we please stop referencing 2005? I don't mean to ruin striker's thread, but honestly, can everyone please move on? It'll be two and half seasons beginning in April since that fateful night. Quit mentioning it. Yes, it was a tremendous time for all White Sox fans; but the manner in which the team was constructed, divisional opponents, the players itself; everything was different. My Christmas wish is for a language filter to include the numbers "2005." It has to end sometime, right? Flash tizzle is right. We all need to focus on the negative. This was a terrible team last year, KW is a joke to think we would compete. Its not important what it took to win a world series three years ago. It is important that we are the worst team in baseball. My hats off to greg775 for showing me the light.
  5. Farve is fine I guess. Maybe a QB who is having the best season ever would be a better choice.
  6. Barry Bonds would be the best player on this team. He hits homeruns like nothing. Imagine him in the cell. Either that or we should have a fire sale. This team is a lock for 5th place in the central. We should just sell it to the tribune. It would be the same thing. That's why we should do it.
  7. Heroin isn't going to age/deteriorate a person's body that badly. Look at pill poppin' brett farve. He is doin fine and he was poppin' oxycodone like tic tacs. Chemically, street heroin is probably a lot dirtier, but the human body is amazingly resilient. By now, all of the physical aspects are long gone. I bet he has perfectly healthy liver function, and the rest of his body is fine too.
  8. The OF prospects didn't pan out, excecpt the guy we traded. Sweeney still has a chance. Quentin has awesome potential. I'm still happy we got him.
  9. Dude gets on base about as much as uribe.
  10. I don't see how 4/55 is worse for him than 5/60 as someone mentioned earlier. I'm sure(well I hope) rowand's agents know something about the time value of money.
  11. Is this where I start b****ing and panicking?
  12. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) Im not sure how he did in the WBC but i know he won the Japanese Central League MVP in 2006. Yeah, playing corner OF. I am more concerned with finding a spot for him to field than his hitting.
  13. No, I don't think so. The best teams on paper aren't always the best teams. Detroit's pitching is below average. Cleveland is still a better team at the moment, so we should still be focused on what it takes to beat them imo. I don't think we are that far away in talent. I think most people here look at our team through subjective eyes which are still jaded because of last year. People need to keep in mind that everything went wrong last year and that's not likely to happen again. If we solidify our pitching staff, sign Jones/Rowand/Fuku, and some of our kids have good years we can easily be the best in the AL central. If not, then we can blow it up after three months of losing. I think its worth the diminishing return.
  14. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) Well, we know he can play center because thats where he started for Japan in the WBC. Oh really? Did he do a good job? I bought tickets to go see it and then had a death in the family. I still have the tickets too, best my money could buy.
  15. QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) I think the 06 cardinals pretty much ruined baseball. I think you mean the 06 tigers.
  16. The royals, ughh, why? http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/news/arti...jsp&c_id=kc Why does everyone think Fukudome can play center? I've never read that anywhere but here.
  17. QUOTE(loltrain @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) So if the Tigers only have one good pitcher that means the White Sox have 0, right? The Tigers rotation certainly isn't spectacular, but with a healthy Bonderman it should certainly be at least league average, which with the offense will be plenty to make the playoffs (barring injury which admittedly is a weakness of the team) Once you get into the playoffs the idea that you have to have great pitching is just laughable, it's all a crap shoot relying on luck, Johan Santana could get shelled and Jeff Weaver and Jose Contreras could turn into aces. So one guy below avrg and 4 (or more) above is going to be league average? I doubt it. Crap shoot? Every WS champ I can think of, for at least the past 7-8 years, probably more, had at least 2-3 pitchers pitching well below the league average, with two being the exception to the rule. I don't see who that will be for the 08 tigers right now, especially with their rather average BP. I'm convinced they still need to add some pitching before they are a contender. They still might.
  18. The sox have two, obviously, with two under and ERA of 4 and IP over 200 last year. That's obviously a simplistic way to look at it. You guys had 1 below league average.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:37 PM) I would trade the Sox for the Tigers every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. The Tigers future is questionable. Right now, the Sox future is terrible. Teams with s***ty pitching(1 good pitcher) aren't likely to win a 7 game series. I can see why their offense is attractive and how that makes their team attractive, but I don't see them winning a championship without acquiring something big in the rotation before the trade deadline. Now they don't have much to offer to do that. Its all too soon to say which team I'd bet on, especially when the sox(and the tigers to a lesser extent) have the luxury of making some more moves.
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Verlander=Stud. Bonderman=Overrated to me. 5.01 ERA last season, 4.78 ERA career. Not very impressive. Willis=5+ ERA this season, and is going to the AL. Uh-oh Porcello=Never seen him throw a pitch, so can't say anything about him. Sure is hyped though, sounds solid. Listen, I would give anything to be the in the Tigers position right now. Dombrowski just put his team in a fantastic position to win the World Series in 08, and probably 09. Thats all you can really ask for. I'm just looking at the team, and not seeing a very bright future down the road. Things can change. Don't forget rogers. Aging, injured last year. I expect this is his last year. I'm starting to wonder if I would trade the sox for the tigers. Though they have a potent offense, their starting rotation is scary weak. Everything about that says possible playoffs with an early exit.
  21. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) While I hope you are correct, I don't see this happening. Even so, with an unknown, I think you have to have enough around him so that he can hopefully complement the rest of the talent. In other words, I really hope we don't have to overly depend on a guy like this breaking out to keep up respectable. I think we need him, fields, richar and one of the young pitchers to break out to at least their respective levels of major league talent for us to compete. That's why I scoff when people say things like "no hope." Its possible, there's hope, its just very unlikely.
  22. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:05 PM) I don't understand the age thing. It some kind of weird obsession on this board. I know you know that, but its worth mentioning again to see if anyone can explain why.
  23. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) Quentin is a question mark, and he certainly doesn't make this team a championship level club like Williams says his goal is. It wouldn't shock me to see him put up better numbers than tori hunter.
  24. That doesn't make sense. Carter won't see the bigs this year.
