  1. If we paid 2 mil (roughly) for a sub I highly doubt we would dump him and pay a mil just to save 1.5 mil(considering we'd need another sub).
  2. QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) More info on Linebrink k/bb 2004 3.19 2005 3.04 2006 3.09 2007 2.00 OPS against 2004 .619 2005 .583 2006 .678 2007 .742 also, career ground/fly ratio of 0.89 ouch! So what? He may have just had a bad year last year. People here assume too much. He could easily go back to 2005 like stats next year and then 2007 like stats in 2009.
  3. QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Not necessarily true. I work in the field at two different treatment centers, one inpatient and one outpatient and the odd are much better long term for someone who does attend rehab. but thats beside the point I think that if we could get hamilton for a reasonable price, say crede and macdougal then i'd do it, if he keeps his head straight he's got all the tools to be a special player. It is beside the point. I'd be please if you could show me any data showing that, feel free to pm me. I don't think we can get him for so little.
  4. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) Yeah...but that website made it sound like Hunter to the South Side was a shoe in. It never said they agreed to terms.
  5. QUOTE(joeynach @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) OVERPAID...when we signed hermanson from the NL in 2005 we gave him what 2 yrs 5 MIL. Thats what this guy should have got u cant trust pitchers who pitched in pitcher friendly parks in the NL. They get lit up in the AL. 1. That was 2 years ago 2. Hermanson was not a proven reliever, let alone the best setup guy on the year's market. He had one or two seasons as a reliever, with an era over 4.00.
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:20 AM) Baseball ability alone, anyone would take this guy in a heartbeat. But with the abuse, I read the same thing you did, there are concerns how his body will hold up, plus, not to be cruel, because I give him all the credit in the world for getting his life back in order, but the success rates for recovering addicts aren't in his favor. A relapse is always possible, maybe even probable. He's someone you'd like on your team, but probably someone you don't want to invest too much into. Its is probable that someone will fail. Rehab doesn't help, not at all. Its proven that about 9/10 people will fail in rehab and approximately 9/10 people who quit without rehab also fail. I've read volumes on this. However, the longer someone is clean, and its been quite some time for josh, the lower the probability of relapse will be(generally).
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) The only source for this signing is Levine right now. Even on the various websites where it is posted they say according to ESPN1000. This is true. Heh, would be funny if it weren't true. I bet all the people who are pissed off would switch to "WTF Kenny?!?! Can't you get a deal done!?!"
  8. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) No he didn't. His WHIP was 1.5 in MIL Either way, its 25 innings. We are going to have to wait and see how the park plays out in his numbers.
  9. I expect a lot of more pissed off people at their owners meetings.
  10. He should still be accountable for not producing a middle reliever. I'm just saying, it shouldn't be considered when evaluating this deal.
  11. I don't know about that. Play LF, yes. Bat lead off? Assuming owens is your CF if you sign fukudome, he bats lead off.
  12. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 09:52 AM) I don't like it. This move was made basically because of the poor state of the Sox farm system. Linebrink has been good, but I believe in the theory that middle relievers are usually hit or miss any given year. $5 mill per year (roughly) for 5 years is crazy. If the Sox had built any sort of farm system the last 7 years under KW, then this signing wouldn't have been necessary. While I think he will be decewnt for a year or 2, I don't think he will be the reliver he was for San Diego. But again, this is what happens when a team can't produce a middle reliever in a farm system. And the team right now has enough holes that the $5 mill per year could have been used elsewhere to help fill one of those, but that's only if we had a farm system. Bob Yeah but that is all 20/20 hindsight bulls***. The fact that we didn't produce a middle reliever isn't the issue because we can't go back in time and make one magically appear. We had to sign one and address the past mistake or not sign one at all. Those were the present options a day ago.
  13. QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 09:37 AM) Is this signing really legit? There's still nothing about it in the Times, Trib, Sox websight, or hasn't been mentioned on Comcasts "Sportsnite" or "Sportsrise". You'd think that when that kind of money is supposedly spent on a reliever that "SOMEBODY" would have some news on it. But so far I haven't seen "DINK" anywhere on any of it. So far, the only place I found it mentioned was on this thread. Its on whitesox.com.
  14. I think I'd rather have fukodome for 10 mil than rowand for 14. At least I know rowand isn't worth 14.
  15. I think that means the angels will sign him as their 6th outfielder for 4 years $75 million.
  16. Seems like the general impression Angels fans think is that this signing was strange and doesn't improve the team very much. Of course, the rational ones are taking a 'wait and see' approach because this deal reeks of a coming trade. I don't think the sox will be involved in that trade in any way. The sox are left needing another big bat in the OF at the very least, and at the most a bat and a lead off guy. Personally, I have flip flopped on jerry owens and see him as a better option than most at this time. Bring me Andruw Jones, thanks.
  17. They are definitely going to do something. I wonder what angels fans think.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 08:37 AM) I was tinking the same thing. What are they doing overpaying Matthews last year and Hunter this year? Where are these guys going to play? I don't agree with signing Rowand though. I really don't want him. Who do you want?
  19. Dear god please let this conversation die . . . again.
  20. Holy hell, that's way too much, like $15 million too much, imo. I wonder how many people are still pissed we didn't sign him.
  21. If its twenty million, kenny probably offered 4/60. Regardless, if the angels have over $80 million tied up in hunter, we can be happy that the sox don't.
  22. This site is hilarious. The majority of the posts are people b****ing when other teams sign people at prices and years we don't want, and then more b****ing when we sign the #1 free agent reliever that isn't a closer. Its impossible to make a realistic move that will be seen as a good one. Everyone lives in fantasy land.
  23. Really hunter would be more giant like than rowand, we haven't signed him and 31 isn't old for a reliever. Keep complaining though because the offseason is over and you're good at it.
  24. Did anyone really want to give him 5 years, 80+ million anyway? I think we dodged a bullet on hunter.
