QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) Very small thinking. This is disappointing and a slap in the face to you fans who filled the ballpark to watch the crap they fielded last year. Give me a break. He's looking out for the average fan? I think he means signing arod would price tickets out of their range. My bad, steff already said that.

Brian Anderson's strong words about Winter Ball...

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) Excluding me I guess. I was down there, Erstad had to prove he could play CF and hit somewhat decent, which he did. If Erstad fell flat on his face in Tucson, he wouldn't have been gived the job. I posted in the catch all thread at length so I won't go into it again here. I exagerrated a little. But I don't understand how you can make the decision to start Erstad, when brian is playing better than him in every facet of the game. Then to top it off, ozzie retards any growth or momentum brian may have gotten by allowing him to get an at bat about every other day. Now they want him to get some at bats? Gimme a f***ing break. -

QUOTE(BMac Attack @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) I feel for Brian as much as anybody, and I really do think he deserves another look at some point before we totally give up on him. However, I think when your name was synonymous with "suck" for as long as Brian's was in 2006, the way to go about a comeback is diplomatically - showing you've grown up and might be able to contribute as a teammate as well as a player. Brian is showing neither right now, regardless of how he feels he's being treated. I think he did that before 07, and wasn't rewarded. Personally, I don't like to make the same mistake twice. -
Brian Anderson's strong words about Winter Ball...

And yes, brian did blow erstad away during spring training. Looking at the stats, his OBP was .060 higher, his avg was slightly higher .010, his slugging was .080 points higher, he stole the same amount of bases as erstad, he walked more than erstad, and he only got 5/8 of the at bats that erstad had. I knew I was pissed for a reason. -

I should say he was hitting better than erstad, when he was playing consistently. Then they played erstad at every opportunity. All of soxtalk could see that erstad won the job before he took a single swing. -

I still don't blame him for being frustrated. In spring training, if I remember correctly, he hit better than erstad and fielded better than erstad, yet they gave darrin every opportunity to take his job. Then, instead of sending brian down to the minors to progress, he just sat there watching erstad play, probably getting worse if anything. What have the sox proven to him? That if he does what it takes to better himself, he'll end up on the bench watching someone else play his spot. The move sucked hard. I was pissed, I can only imagine how pissed he was. As for everything you said, its the offseason, he wants to know where he stands so he can be traded or fight for a starting spot. So he spoke to the media and was honest. I think he is right. -

I don't blame anderson at all. I agree with pretty much everything he said. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 12:08 AM) A starting lineup of Hinrich, Kobe, Deng, Joe Smith? and Wallace, should be enough for the Bulls to make the Eastern Conference Finals. So should our current lineup, imo. I don't like this trade you've proposed for some reason. We lose a lot of depth. -
Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star
max power replied to NCsoxfan's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Yeah I know, crede doesn't walk much. His career avg also sucks. Yet he managed to put up a .320 OBP one year and will probably do it again, possibly have a much better year than that somewhere down the line, as his career is still young. I haven't seen josh do that at this level yet. So maybe josh will have a .320+ OBP next year, maybe not. It certainly isn't as written in stone as you appear to be making it. More importantly, its still not expected that a guy who has played 2/3rds of a year of professional baseball is going to have a higher OBP than someone else in that person's entire career. I don't care who you are talking about. -
Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star

Its not unrealistic, I just wouldn't bet on it. Why? In your situation joe has an entire career to surpass what josh does in his (almost) 2nd year. -

I'd maybe agree with SLG, HR total and RBI total but I don't see josh putting up a higher OBP than joe next year, let alone for the rest of joe's career. -
Lots of downers grove people in this thread. Anyway, at least tori and rowand fill one out of 3 most pressing needs- CF, SS, RP. I would like to have either for a reasonable price, which may or may not happen. Richar likely has won the 2nd base spot and if he doesn't work out we have ozuna to take his place/platoon with him.

That is ridiculous. Jermain Dye was voted the best player(or most outstanding something like that) in the AL in 2006 by the mlb players.
-
So basically, he was either slumping in September, back to reality in my opinion, and he isn't quite the player you make him out to be 30, 30, 100, .300 -or- he is a s***bird who should have had surgery because he could "barely stand" and god only knows why he didn't. Either way, I could take him or leave him.
-
QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) You've gotta be kidding me. Considering he was hitting around .300 all year until the last half month until he could barely stand with those herniated discs in his back. Describing that post as nitpicking is an understatement. If he could "barely stand" he should have gotten surgery in the offseason. Instead, he decided to wait until the season started, and he pretty much f***ed over the sox for his salary and diminished this teams chances of winning. I wouldn't forgive him for that, as he could likely do it again, so I wouldn't give him a contract past 2008, unless it was for a ridiculously low price.

THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: OCT. 28/Don't Stop Believin'

QUOTE(beck72 @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 07:06 AM) Fields power numbers are great. But if his defense at 3b is only avg at best [that's not to say he can't improve in the future] and LF is a stretch for him, and the sox don't think he'll be a consistent near .300 hitter in the future, with much better plate discipline [better than .350 OBP], I could see Fields being moved in the right deal. Esp. if the sox think Fields may not hit for avg. and OBP much better than Crede, but minus the defense at 3b. I guess it would come down to how healthy Crede is. But that won't be known until the year starts and how well Joe plays. So to answer the question, no I don't see Fields being moved this offseason. But I could if the sox could strike a deal for a healthy, 2006 form Crede. Why would left field be a stretch? He could be gold glove caliber in two years for all we know. -
QUOTE(scenario @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 12:44 AM) Think so, eh? Name the better 3Bs that have played for the WhiteSox in the last 30 years. It's a very short list. Thats not the question to be asked. "Name better 3Bs in baseball" is. That list isn't so short at all.

Do pitchers bat in japan?

Its worth mentioning that vera broke his hand. Not sure size was the main factor. He won round two pretty convincingly.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Lowball a guy they don't want around and try to make him look like the bad guy. How long til King George rips him in the press? Hmmm, what other team sometimes treats people this way? Every team when its appropriate. What would you have them do? -
Why trade for bourne when we have owens?
-
QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) So you're saying that you never see batters show up pitchers, then subsequently get hit / brushed back? I'm not saying that it would stop him from being a "douche", but that I'm surprised it doesn't happen. I would have thrown at his chin. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) LOL give me a f***ing break. Yeah Manny is a douche, but if you throw at him he'll just homer the next 2 times he faces you and stare and watch it leave both times. It's the same thing as the Chad Johnson stuff, if you don't want to see it, don't let him do well. If you think he is going to hit three homers in game because you threw at him the second time and forth time you are giving him waaaay too much credit, even when he is on fire.
-
lol at manny being manny(a dumbass s***bird). He hits a solo shot and throws his hands up like he won the world series with a walkoff at fenway. Someone needs to get him back to reality, down 4 runs in game 4 of a series you are trailing 2-1.
