QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) Which one of Carmona and Sabathia is league average? Byrd and westbrook are the two league avg. Carmona and sabathia are the two below.

Their rotations are what seperates them in my mind. The indians have 2 people likely to pitch at the league average and 2 below. Their careers say that to me. The tigers have 1 below league average pitcher, and very generously, 2 at league average, counting Kenny Rogers, who is 43 and coming off an injury and Dontrelle Willis, who pitched like crap in the NL last year.

I disagree. Cleveland is a more well rounded and better team that I think will win more games.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 08:45 AM) You asked if they were a lock for the playoffs. NY has had a questionable staff and an awesome lineup for the last 7 years. Actually looking back I said to win the division. Which they did not do all of the last 7 years and are not a lock to do it this year. I won't think of detroit as some kind of powerhouse just because of their potent offense. They are a threat, that's all.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) Figgins and Kotchman for Kong and Crede!!! I wish. It frees up a lot of cash and makes us a better team. -
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 04:17 PM) It's worked for NY for how many years? It hasn't worked in 7 years. Furthermore, when they did win, their pitching played a huge role.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 03:57 PM) That sums up the way I feel about that trade. You significantly improved the SS position, but left a huge hole in your starting rotation and have 4.5M of dead weight. and a lot less delusional. If I go into a Honda dealership, they're not going to tell me "Ferrari is finally catching up to us!" Nice analogy. Who is exaggerating now?

Shingo was scary awful in '05. Kudos to the management for not trying to ride it out.

You're right. Plus, Thome wouldn't go to baltimore if he has the no trade protection I seem to recall.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) How about "we're always looking for ways to upgrade the team"? It comes across a lot less arrogant. and a lot less confindent

Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
max power replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) Tell me why that would be 4th place and why is Mack a better defender than a player who played CF in his native country. Tell me why I shouldn't kill myself now. Wait a sec, I thought Fukudome was a corner outfielder in Japan. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) Ill tell you what. We sign Fuk U Dome to that contract and trade for Brian Roberts and this team automatically looks pretty tough. I wouldnt even know where to bat Fuk. 1. Roberts 2B 2. Cab SS 3. Thome DH 4. Kong 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Fuk CF 7. Fields 3B 8 AJP C 9 Quentin LF That team would be 4th place in the central. Why not just get mackowiak to play center again, he would probably play better D. We wouldn't be able to hit lefties and our division is full of them. I should just kill myself now. -
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) 1. Curtis Granderson 2. Carlos Guillen 3. Miguel Cabrera 4. Magglio Ordonez 5. Gary Sheffield 6. Edgar Renteria 7. Placido Polanco 8. Ivan Rodriguez 9. Jacque Jones Yeah they have a great line up. So a great lineup and a questionable pitching staff is all you need to be a lock for the playoffs? I'm not drinking detroit's kool aid.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) But then again Buerhle was as awful the second half of 2006 as Willis was at anytime during 2007, and I'm sure everyone is happy the White Sox gave him $56 million. The thing about Willis is even if his ERA is 5.00, he's going to give you 200 innings and that will save your bullpen especially if he's a #5 starter. The White Sox right now have to count on Floyd and Danks to pick up a ton of innings Garland ate up. It will take its toll on the bullpen if they can't show they can pitch a lot more efficiently in 2008. I'd still rather have our rotation than theirs. Contreras might have as much potential to turn it around as Willis does, depending on what is wrong with willis. They only had one person pitch 200 innings last year. Now they might have two in Willis. Kenny Rogers might be done for. Robertson has been crap every year but one in his career. The rookie might pitch well, if he does, chances are he will still have plenty of rough outings. I don't know why everyone thinks they are some kind of powerhouse thats a lock for the playoffs. They have a ton of question marks in their pitching staff.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) They say he was only throwing 85 last year. He's making about $7 or 8 million in 2008, he's worth the gamble if it means you get Cabrera in your line-up. Absolutely but some people are calling him a good SP or better, when all he is to me is a question mark. He is worth the gamble, especially when your rotation is as bad as detroits is.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) Willis -68-54 at age 25 Vaz- 41- 56 at age 25 Since then Vaz has only put up 2 seasons with less wins than losses. Probably didnt hurt that Willis played for the Marlins and Vaz played for the Expos.... Everyone knows that willis used to be a good pitcher. The question is if he is still. He was terrible last year.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:23 PM) But they have been worse outside the divsion last year and even in 2005. Their interleague record last year was unacceptable. Why not focus on that instead of b**** about the tigers?
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) 39-33, and still finished 24 games out. My point is, maybe we are focusing on the strength of the division a little too much. We should be able to win games elsewhere if our division really is so hard.
